  1. The real reason I think this is important is the possible mods we will see, not specificly the present game as we know it. Pacific naval battles will be pretty weak if you risk loosing your carrier by launching an air-strike. It will make a lot of people find that carriers are not as viable as they were in real life since it will be enormously expensive to maintain a number of carriers in battle at any given time, you simply wouldn't have enough MPPs without destabalizing the basic structure in the editor. If two carriers are brought down to 4 or 5 strength in a single turn not by being attacked but by simply launching an airstrike, it turns into an issue of is it helping or hurting you to use your carriers against an enemy, how much damage could you do compared to how much MPPs you will possibly have to spend to repair your flattop. Even worse, if you lose 4 or 5 strength points unexpectedly, enemy ships could simply rush you, and your carrier is half as hard to sink as it really should be. How many planes it is carrying has nothing to do with how many shell hit's it can take. Currently the two are directly connected.
  2. Prehaps we could give carriers two sets of strength? one for the carrier itself and one to represent the air units? The air unit's str may fall to 0 and thus it cannot attack or defend until reenforced, but the carrier's strength could be independant and only effected when attacked.
  3. It occured to me today while playing that the system of having carriers take damage from attacking an enemy is stupid, gamey, and ultimatly detracts greatly from the game itself. I propose the same system that was part of the classic Pacific General (Part of the Panzer General Family) In that game, you could LOAD airfleets into carriers, and then launch then from the carrier as a seperate unit. This way, you could launch airstrikes, and even if your whole airfleet was destroyed over the target, the carrier is untouched, as it should be, and ready to accept more planes. The price of carriers should be lessened in-game to reflect the fact that you would have to buy an airfleet to make it effective. IMO this would make thing's a lot more realistic, and give carriers a much better role in the game like they had in real life. The British having carriers and the germans not was a big deciding factor in the war at sea. Anyone who studies what happened to the Bismarck or convoy escort can tell you that. It is simply lazy to have a carrier be 100 KM away, launch an airstrike at a battleship, and take (expensive) damage to it's hull which may force it to withdraw or could even sink it.
  4. Do you have the MPPs? Is there a direct connection to the capital?
  5. I myself am sadly disapointed with the AI based soley on the fact that although some changes were made, it seems to be relativly the same as SC1! the AI still has no clue how to conduct a proper battle and attempt to encircle the enemy forces. The AI still never attempts to trap or trick the player with diversionary tactics or coordinated attacks. It is sad indeed.
  6. The real key I would say is being able to detect the Amphib transports before they land their troops, to do this you will have to ethier have a large spotting range with air craft or send the RN/CN to scout. It is a viable solution since you only have a limited amount of area to scout, Transports are limited to being made in ports. Without being able to see the enemy ports that he plans to use, the RN is vastly impotent against a Sealion due to the fact that amphip transports can move and unload on the same turn. Use your troops to surround london, and only leave a corps in each other city. Only the capital really matters and if you can stop the Axis from taking London and say 1 other city for a few turns, you can possibly turn it into an attrition war until Russia get's involved, then you might actually be in good shape since the Germans will be bleeding troops and have Airfleets/HQs tied down in England. Unconventional Suggestion: Use your ships as a physical shield around the shores of places you don't wish the enemy to land. Set it up so he can only land in a place of your choosing where you might be able to turn the tables on him, as long as you have enough ships left and dont fear air attack, as a bonus if he sends a transport out of his spotting range it might have surprise contact with a battleship and take serious damage and thus jepordize the entire invasion.
  7. If UK government goes to Africa then a script should be added to get MPPs from both Canada and the U.S. In addition, I believe more free forces should be given to the UK to help make thing's more realistic. Call in troops from South Africa or India just to get the ball rolling.
  8. Why don't we add a script where Hitler meets with Franco and thing's don't go well, the result being Spain's Axis leaning falls 30%. Make it early so that the Axis player will have a smaller window to get Spain to join, and it will be earlier in the game when MPPs are more scarce and much has to be done to prepare for Russia. A historical meeting did take place and Hitler left saying he would rather have teeth pulled then meet with Franco again, so we can easily say it did not got well. After all Spain didn't join the Axis.
  9. Yea I was under the impression that it would do so, oh well
  10. The stationary bombers are a good idea, if you find them that useless then try disbanding them for some possible MPP gain?
  11. Yea it's almost outragously easy to beat the game as axis.
  12. Yea the A.I. really is not so great sadly :/ obviously it is a very hard task to make good AI and Hubert should not be held at fault. This being said, there is still need for improvment or else this game will whind up sitting on harddrives not being played unless someone else is online to play against. The AI in SC1 also seemingly refused to make any tank groups, a hard fallback for SC2 because of how many tank groups a Axis player will usually build, esp those of higher tech levels. I too have noticed that the AI does not have good tech levels, in fact really doesnt get much tech at all from what I've seen so far. The first full game I ever played I used Diplomacy and walked ALL over the computer, I got spain and Iraq to join with relative ease by 43' AI's response? nothing. For some reason, as in SC1, the AI ignores the Med. I have all the time in the world with the Italians to attack eygpt, for the entire game (currently at the end of 43') I have sent Italian armies forward to Eygpt, fought the British, and withdrew of my own accord, never being counter attacked in force, even when one may have destroyed me. Basicly it is only a matter of time before I over-come them since they make barley any tactical moves and have yet to send any form of reenforcment to North Africa. I have even destroyed the British fleet in the Med and have not seen an allied warship since 41'. One thing I noticed is that there are more partisans (bought passive and active) then ever and this makes it slightly more challenging. At one time I had 4 partisan groups in the USSR and 1 in Yugo, presenting something of a challenge. But since the AI never makes any real attempts to change the tide, I was able to withdraw forces and deal with them easily. All in All the AI needs to realize strategic opputiunty's and exploit them more often, I walked through russia and barley even met resistence. Unit's just sat around cities and let me encircle them one city at a time until the Red army was in such shambles that no production could ever save them.
  13. I agree, sending in the best and leaving a worst to guard the gear just gives it a more realistic feel.
  14. Yea this DAP thing seemed like a good idea, but everyone using it apparently just crashed the fkin server and we are all FN beat. Im so glad I stayed in tonight.
  15. Yo this is getting stupid now... the DAP just errored and said it can't accelerate my download and CANCELED it. I just lost like 2 hours of my life and have nothing downloaded... and it won't start again... what is the deal here
  16. WOOT I got that DAP thing and im very impressed, download speed increased about 3 fold, and it isn't freezing anymore *crosses fingers*
  17. Mine is only going at about 6 kbs I have cable and I know it can go way way faster then this, I have done it before. It kinda sux I have to wait 6 hours. but oh well
  18. I don't have the e-mail as of 7 EST. It would be basicly impossible that you have the wrong e-mail of mine, but prehaps it just hasn't been mailed yet. keep me posted.
  19. I hate how vauge responses always are. What does not ready mean? Are they not even built yet, are they about to be turned on, are you just not turning them on to increase hype, what is the deal? In other words, HOW LONG. Gettin pretty sick of being told you don't know when it is very clear you do know, so don't insult me with lies.
