In response to DeGaule talking about how the real countries in WWII couldn't have fielded large numbers of paratroopers, Let's remember, this game is based around the fact that you are suppost to CHANGE history... I mean the Italian's never had huge numbers or even good tanks but in the game you can research level 5 tanks and build dozens with enough time and good strategy... Should the Italians not have tanks because of what it was like in real life? Another example, Rockets, How many moble or stationary rocket launchers did the British have in WW2? Unless i'm mistaken they wern't to far ahead in that area. But in the game if you wanted to for some reason you could build a lot and pump into research. My point here is just because in real life no one had enough paratroopers to say invade England has little to do with the game... all the countries had paratroopers or airborne unit's in some form as SeaWolf pointed out, and all of them should or could be able to use them in the game.
  2. Paratroopers in game should have maybe 1 or 2 bars of exp at creation to reflect thier extra training and special job. Also, i agree with the fact that they won't have the mechinized element but can't the strength just be made up in number of troops? And of course the movement on the ground should be far less then regular corps. Maybe a unit or 5-7 with greatly reduced movement, slightly reduced regular attack, good "shock" or surprise attack, and starting with 1 or 2 bars of exp. at the cost of say about 400 MPP would be useable I think. Atleast for going cross channel or German invasion of USSR to get behind the lines. Of course any of the minor countries would be excellent target's for these since they are realativly weak anyway, and risking transport's against a far better allied fleet early in the game is not always a good idea I honestly think they could work, although I agree on many of points why they wouldn't, I think it would be a great addition and add more variety to the game and open up a whole new chapter of strategy and gameplay.

  4. Dude, i have no idea what your talking about. I saw about the 6530 on other posts and in the how to but I have no idea how to do that. I doubt i have the guide for my cable and if i do i have no clue where it is. Thanks anyway i guess... AI it is.

" Uhh you don't have to make it like that... Honestly it's not like in real like only 10% even made it to the ground or the target... You can't honestly say you want it programed so that 1 or 2 strength makes it. 5 at the max would be fine i think.
  6. It seems i have one of those 192.xx blah blah IP's that it say's don't work, but it doesn't tell you what you can do, how convienient. Any help would be great.

Well i set up the game, and i get to the screen where it say's Waiting for oppenant your IP is blah blah and i give it to him but when he tries to connect he get's an error message that say's Socket Expired. I saw another thread about it but nothing was really answered. I'm using a Cable and so does he. Any ideas?
  8. I have never really seen the game cheat, however i agree with John that enemy air power seems more effective in a lot of cases, but not enough to effect the game to much.
  9. That doesn't make much sense to me really... They used them in real life and the Enemy has Fighters in real life... Of course you should, as i said, ethier destroy or use up your enemies aircraft before launching your paratroopers, it's the same concept of distracting or destroying your enemies navy before loading or sending your transports to his coast, we all know that battleships and carriers dessimate sea transport's, but they were added? I honestly don't see any major problems with having them in the game. Sure they could have draw backs that would keep them from being to powerful, but leave them out all together? And as for engineers, if you ever played D-Day the beginning of the end, you know that they can be used effectivly to do a lot of things, and of course things do take a lot of turns but they take a lot of time in real life too, it doesn't take away from the fact that they can be effective when used right. Maybe there could be a limit to how many can be added in a certain area to prevent capital cities or entire coast lines from being surronded by them and very hard to break without a lot of airpower or a good HQ. I can see some drawbacks to engineers and i can go 50 50 on having them in the game, but with the paratroopers i honestly think it was a mistake to leave them out.
  10. The lack of support for amphip. invasions is a little troubling, but can be overcome if you are good enough. HQ's seem to do the trick for resupply not to mention the obvious fighting bonus they present, but in a situation where there is limited space and your force stands the chance of being pushed back, your HQ could easily fall leaving the the rest of the invasion force in serious trouble. On the flip side, I would like to see the addition of engineers or some way to build defences that aren't really to strong but enough to slow down or hamper an enemy, like the atlantic wall or numerous other german defensive lines did in WW2.
  11. I don't think the game cheats per say, it does get annoying when that happens though. HQ's plus experienced troops are often the key to breaking cities. Also, if the enemy has any HQ's near by that would effect his troops try sending 1 or 2 units to drive him off or even kill him. HQ's usally run back when tanks come at them
  12. HQ's are really the only units that i have played with that were able to keep up a huge Exp. backing and of course be very effective.
  13. I don't see why it would happen, in fact I think it would work to the oppisite effect wouldn't it? If the russins get pissed at germany for attacking the baltic, Wouldn't they get pissed at the allies for doing it? Prehaps they would stay out of the war if something like this happens.

Konstain, If you do as you said you will whind up with better units, but wasting a lot of turns, like if you reenforce every other turn with unit's that are at like 7 or 8 str. seems like a waste of turns they could be attacking, does it not? Prehaps i am wrong. I do think it is an interesting topic since experience helps ALOT when breaking those tough cities in russia such as Lenningrad, or in the Urals.
  15. One thing this is really lacking is some sort of engineers... What happened to the atlantic wall? Or any numer of other german or even allied Defensive lines? You should be able to build limited defensive structures to ethier add slightly to your defence in that spot or slow movent like Dragon's Teeth or Mines would have done in WW2. Also, i don't see what's so hard about paratroopers? You load them in a city... and then decide where in thier area of operation, you want to drop them. You can have a larger chance of landing losses then say amphib. assults do now to simulate scattering and planes being shot down. Even have enemy fighters defend against them if they haven't been delt with or used that turn in another defence. Make them more expensive then regualar corps of course and along with higher causalty rate they would be used sparingly, but I think they would be key in say invading england or nazi france, not that it can't be done now, but it would make it more interesting.
  16. Yeah this game can get VERY intense not for the light wargamer. Nice post barry, but i alway's prefered (and have won with) A more conventional strat. In a nutshell, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Low countries, France, Vichy France. For i last i obviously just take the first capital, then invade using Italian Amphip and possibly some overland Unit's in north africa, Supported by the Italian fleet. It works for me always, and taking out Vichy France early is alway's good. I usally leave the rest of north africa, save the english fleet in the med, alone. Malta is not worth the effor it takes, and there is little room on the map to surround or manuever toward the east of north africa, and the AI usally doesn't do much from there. Now here is were the real tough fighting comes in. Russia. Prepare a LOT for this one, since I feel it is simply the most important front in the entire war. Rommel and any other top HQ you can afford or wish to get should be placed on this front, with ALOT of armor, the opening attack should smash everything you can and just push push push. Support by most of germany's air power and a good amount of Italian Army units, where i agree with Barry the Italian infantry is very important. Watchout for those Siberian reenforcments but for the most part just push hard and fast, but be careful not to lose units, don't overextend unit's just to do a little more damage, the russian's like to beef up on ton's or corps and can easily overwhelm a cut off Armor unit, and you cannot afford this. On the english/american front, a few air unit's to slow the tide of bombing is ok, but don't fuss over it. Even with brest and it's port totally bombed out, I have been able to keep up with and surpass russian production. In fact in one of my games, the western allies actually Invaded europe in 42, as i was beating the russin's far back. At first i was worried, because obviously i would be fighting to ground fronts, but soon found out that my HQ along with Italian corps and 1 or 2 German armor unit's beat the living HELL outta british and american forces. I was very surprised by this, and found that if you can just contain them and not let them take the mines or more then 1 city/port nothing should be effected much. The air power and navy are a problem, so watch your unit's near the coast. Eventually I overpowered russia and turned on the western allies, Now with few ground unit's left due to the meat grinder they landed into and refused to give up in france. I'm still learning but i've been able to win a lot with a basic format. Of course i feel when you are the axis, Preserving your unit's is very key. A lot of losses in ethier front will whind up with the allies in berlin.
  17. I think that partisans in the game should be weakend or totally replaced with a Resistence element in occupied countries or cities. For example a randow, prehaps 2-5% chance, of resistence damaging occupied cities MPP or Mines, Oil, etc. etc. Taking 1 or 2 MPP off each time. Not enough to badly effect your economy but prehaps just a little bothersome and more challenging. Also, the presence of troops in the city should reduce the chance of this happening by a % or two. This way keeping troops in captured cites that are in no danger of being taken by the enemy is more of a must. Additionaly, why are there no paratroopers or some option to load corps prehaps into air transports? As most of you know paratroopers where used in important battles by both sides in the war, Crete, D-day, Market garden etc. etc. I think it would make invasions such as England or France much easier if you are agaisnt a player who blocks the coast with troops preventing landings. Just some thoughts i had.
  18. WoW long winded lol j/k Well i don't know exactly but honestly... does it really matter if it's suppost to be 6 divisons or 12? I mean it's a good observation with the corps being half the size of army but how does it really affect gameplay? Not like an allied army is bigger then a Axis one.

  20. Hi, first off i wanna say i LOVE this game, it's pretty much exactly what i've been looking for in a strat. game for a long time. 1 question i have though, What exactly does War in Siberia do? I am pretty dumb i guess i can't figure it out, although i will admit a never played it where i tried to figure it out, but i couldn't find anything in the guide or FAQ unless i missed it. And 2nd, is there any other fan made scenario's or mods besides the two on that other post that modified the 39 and 40 starts? Thanks a lot guys
