  2. Usually I am very conservative when I buy games. I research the titles for months after they are released before making a decision. That's probably why I didn't buy CMSF until Marines v1.11 came out. However, after playing Rome: Total War and loving it, I bought Empire: Total War when it came out. I finally got to play it last week. Don't get me wrong, it is a great game (now), but I don't like paying for something and waiting a year for it to be patched up to playability. Empire Earth was another dissapointment. I think I played it a grand total of four times. Divided Conquest: American Nation was a big failure. I installed the game, started the campaign, and twenty minutes into gameplay "a famine has struck your state!" and all of my brave confederate troops starved to death during the battle of Bull Run. The Game is still in the original box in the back of my game drawer. Now that was a waste of $40. Anyway, I learned my lesson. Don't believe people who write game reviews. Wait until you have feedback from the community first.
  3. Well, my only advice is to pause the game, then be VERY careful when using the aquire command. It is a bit of a pain when dealing with the menu, with ammo labeled e.g. '76mm HEAT''85mm HEAT'. Why not just tell me that it's a LAW, or an AT-4? As far as Javelins are concerned, I usually have whichever group takes the CLU also takes all of the Javelins at once, to avoid any confusion. It's better to have a squad carrying extra, than having a squad carrying useless rockets. Concerning Aircraft: (Rule of Thumb) The first bar is Guns, the second is Rockets, the third bar is AT Missles or Bombs.
  4. I have noticed in v1.20 that SAW gunners do fire longer bursts, and I have seen M240 gunners firing 5-8 round busts, but usually against targets in the open. It makes a big difference wether the gun is deployed or not. When deployed, M240 usually fires 5-8 round busts. When not deployed it fires very short bursts, usually only 3-4 rounds. I haven't noticed any significant difference between area fire, or aimed fire. If you can guess, one of my favorite parts of CMSF is watching the machinegunners.
  5. I guess you're right. I was just speculating it would be easier to change the turn length, than mess around with movement order code. Maybe add an option to have the player select between "Short" and "Long" turns. I have noticed that the action in CMSF does move a lot faster, and is more intense, making me wish for shorter turns. Mistakes of mine tend to go from 'oops' to 'OH MY GOD they're all dead!' within a 60 second time-frame.
  6. As far as I see it, this is not so much a problem, as something you just have to deal with in turn-based play. This also goes for aquiring stuff from a vehicle. You have to wait one turn while your men board the vehicle. Then aquire during the orders phase. Then spend another turn dismounting the vehicle. So something that in real time would take you about 50 seconds, takes you 2 minutes in wego. Personally, if an option to play short turns (30 seconds) rather than the 1 minute turn were implemented, I think it would be a quick fix. How hard is it to change turn length in wego?
  7. I have a fantastic idea on how to fix the scenario selection screen: Make it bigger. Now did that blow your mind, or what? Sure, being able to sort things, and having a delete button with all sorts of other functions is all well and good, but on my monitor, the scenario select screen is only about the size of a postage stamp Why not have it fill up the whole screen like in CMx1?
  8. Any game that requires a monthly subscription fee, I tend to avoid. The game looks like it would be fun though.
  9. There is a small sound mod on the Repository that adds some screams and profanity if that's what you are looking for.
  10. I agree, suspension of disbelief is an important part of making a good sci-fi, or fantasy. When I see these types of stylish animated movies, my first thought is "oh look another kids movie". I guess I will go see it though, so I can cheer on the obviously 'evil' space marines. Space Marines rule!
  11. Woohoo! I'm smart! Considering 55% of people on teh inetrnets spell words the same as that little message, I guess you get used to it.
  12. @ MeatEtr That is some excellent work, I had the same situation with the ants in my driveway. Also on our front lawn, we would get ant infestations, so at the request of my parents I fought a war against them all summer long. My preferred method was to pour water down the antholes, and when the ants would come running out, I would use whatever insecticide was handy to annihilate them. Also, I used the gasoline for the lawnmower without my parent's knowledge. Apparently gasoline kill ants quite easily. @ Michael Emrys Nice work! Higly unusual strategy. One thing I heard about Fire Ants, is if you shovel up one nest, and dump it onto another nest, the two groups will fight each other to the death.
  13. From what I understand, the team leader of troops onboard the vehicle functions as sort of an ad-hoc vehicle commander. I read it somewhere on FAS.org but I can't find the article right now, I'll have a look later.
  14. I just found a small group of red jumping spiders living in a box in my room, needless to say, they're all dead now. I keep all of my books in that box, and when I went to grab one to read, spiders came out. There was one big one, and about six small ones. Chalk up a few more kills to the scoreboard.
  15. That was cool, sometimes I feel like that. Mostly on mondays.
  16. Costard, I'll keep that in mind, but the FAA doesn't like it when you smoke pot. Stalin's Organist, Insect Liberation Front? I guess I have now found my arch-nemesis.
  17. I don't understand what you mean. Are you telling me you have never killed a bug in your life because to do so would be "unmanly" in your eyes? Also, I am not a wuss, I just hate bugs. They are freaky looking.
  18. I thought that for NATO, an attack against one member was treated as an attack against all members?
  19. +1 You sir, win the forum! That's the best idea I have ever heard! It probably won't be implemented though. I don't think BFC are going to be messing with the editor anymore.
  20. He's not my roomate. I do miss the posts about aliens and things though.
  21. +1 I wouldn't mind a feature where you click on the air asset in the panel, and a little popup window in the corner of the screen list the aircraft loadout. Maybe when Kill stats are implemented, something like this could be added as well.
  22. NEWS FROM THE FRONT LINES OF THE WAR ON BUGS And nature in general... - SLIM - Daytona Beach Well, this morning at 4:45am, the 6 month ceasefire between me and bugs came to an end. I had walked over to 7-11 to get a cup of coffee and a sandwich. On my way home, a bunch of bugs took it upon themselves to attack me. The first three were some type of beetle, approximately 1 inch long, of a silvery white color. The first one flew and hit my hat, and fell to the ground in front of me. It made a noise like two pieces of metal tapping into each other then flew off. The other two flew down and hit the street next to me. I had never seen bugs like these before, and when they hit the ground the noise was unusual and startled me. I was able to kill one of them, before they made their escape. The next incident occured further up the road, when some type of black cockroach bug, about 2 inches long, was walking across the road in front of me, As I went to walk past it suddenly jumped into the air and attacked me. I stepped to the side and it landed on the street. It then turned around and ran at me. It was obviously some type of fanatical suicide bug, so I stomped on it and laughed. Further down the road, the wierdest bug I have ever seen attacked me. I was walking under a streetlight, and a 3 inch long black bug flew down and landed in the street. Before I could react, it jumped towards me and squawked at me. I'm serious, it made some type of squawk that sounded like a strangled rooster. I was startled, and I had to stop and think, because I couldn't believe what had just happened. Needless to say, I got pissed off, I yelled at the bug "WHAT THE F*** DID YOU SAY TO ME?" and killed it. After I killed the wierd bug, it seemed that pissed off some other bugs, because I could hear them crawling around. I didn't want to get attacked again, so I got home as quick as I could. The ceasefire is over, all bugs and bug like things must die now!
