  1. It doesn't have to be goodbye. I recently reinstalled CMAK on my old laptop.
  2. A very good analogy. I would say Combat Mission only counts for about .001% of all gamers, I mean the best .001%, right at the top of the gaming world. Simulation games, like Combat Mission generally gather the most intelligent, polite, and friendly gamers that exist. They also tend to weed out all non hackers who don't pack the gear, or brain tissue, to tie their own shoes or cook their own breakfast. The simple fact that one must read the game manual before playing the game automatically disqualifies every single kid in the world who thinks "reading is boring" and "science/history class is dumb".
  3. I must apologise, my computer problems I thought were temporary are actually permanent. There won't be any more videos for a while until I get a new one.
  4. Oh god, I hope not. The CMBN forum has been mercifully sane for a while now, I would hate to have that ruined! I simply meant that the thread seems to have morphed into some time-spanning whatchatingy, that exists now, in the past, and for the foreseeable future. It's like a fungus, a very determined and highly infectious fungus. The thread itself I mean, the people that willingly inhabit it are another matter entirely; I don't think I am qualified to comment on their mental status, being a crazy person myself. Dont' misread me sir, the violence of action is to your advantage, and you have used it very well up to this point. I simply meant that GaJ's forces have been compressed into such a small space you're likely to run into opposition around every corner now. Greetings!
  5. The Road to Montebourg - Part 3 - Waiting for Artillery Fox Company tightens the noose on Echoville.
  6. Scout, Medic, FO, or heroic suicide attack squad.
  7. I just read from the beginning of this DAR until now. Everything is great, well written, and that "war movie lighting" mode looks really sweet. I only have one thing to say at this point, quoting from BoB: "Hey Bil, don't get hit in the face when GaJ throws in the towel!" I think the battle has reached the point where any further progress will be paid for in blood. I look forward to further updates.
  8. I'll try to put out a video at least once a week, maybe twice a week. In spite of all my hoorah, I usually play CM only a couple hours a week now. I'm splitting my time between six different games at the moment.
  9. I'm playing on Warrior. No, I stopped them short of the "Suspected Minefield" where they come to a stop at the dirt road, then I used [sLOW] to cross the minefield, then [QUICK] from the edge of the field into the trenches. Actually no, I use [MOVE] anytime I am not immediately expecting enemy action, and if time is not a factor. [QUICK] and [HUNT] both cause your men to get tired at a more rapid pace than [MOVE]. It's a matter of personal preference I guess, I prefer to let my troops move more slowly, rather than moving quickly, and then standing still for a while. When you use the [MOVE] command your men are always moving, they are never sitting still quite long enough to get easily caught by enemy arty. Of course, if you need your men to hurry up or be more cautious, you can just swap the waypoint for a different movement type. Why thank you! I'm glad to know I'm not wasting my time, or yours!
  10. You don't need a selectable option for this. All I do is save the game using the same file name each time. When you save the game, it usually has a save game file name like this: [The Road to Montebourg 001] All I do is hit backspace four times and get this: [The Road to Montebourg] I then save the game using that name every time. It keeps me from stacking up dozens of savegames, and it keeps me from using savegames to travel back in time. So basically, I've been playing CMBN in "Ironman" mode from the very beginning.
  11. No, it's the original campaign that came with the game, not the modified one on the repository.
  12. Oh. I get it now. I've never lost an FO, but I did lose a Company Commander once.
  13. Then I lose the campaign, and maybe a few months or so down the line I'll try it again after I've forgotten why I lost. There's no point reloading a battle you just fought to try to advance the campaign. Upon reloading it, you know where the enemy forces are, how many there are, what they will do, and how they react. It's like having a free pass you don't deserve, or playing a game with god mode turned on. Sure you'll have some fun, but at the end of the day you won't feel like you've accomplished anything. For me, the real fun of Combat Mission is being able to make mistakes, then being able to change your plans, counterattack, and be victorious without simply going back in time to erase your mistakes. If I do come across a scenario, or campaign mission that I just can't beat no matter what I do, then I try to learn from my mistakes, and do better next time. That's all.
  14. ... and a shameless YouTube plug. The Road to Montebourg: Part 1 GETOFFTHEBEACH! Part 2 Just Call It "Echoville" Subscribe to my channel, or my pixeltruppen will have died for nothing! About a year ago, I had thought about making some simple walkthrough videos for CMBN. Now, a year later, I've finally gotten started! Now you too can enjoy my mediocre machinimatography, and my love for big, neon green placards! Maybe I should have videoed it in black and white, removed the sound, inserted some period music, and made a silent movie? Oh well, it's too late now! Also you can pick up my sound mod, the one featured in the video, at the repository where many fine mods are found. More information is here: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=109061 Have a scientastic day!
  15. As stated in the AAR that is in the video description, I used up about 70% of my ammo in 16 minutes. Normally that's not such a good idea, but it keeps casualties low when there is nothing but open terrain, and enemy positions are so easily targeted. WEGO on Warrior difficulty. Any time I am suppressing a machinegun, I use the [Target] command. The only time I ever use [Target Light] is if the target is at a longer range than effective for the weapon, or if ammo is low. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I will be making more of them to provide a walkthrough, tips on tactics, and to showcase the mod, and any other mods I think are above the average. I plan to do parts of The Road to Montebourg, Kampfgruppe Engel, and The Scottish Corridor
  16. Could you explain what it means to mortar snipe? I've never heard that expression.
  17. I only save to resume playing where I left off, I never reload a save game if things go poorly. I think losing is part of the game, and one should learn from the mistakes as well as the successes. We don't learn to be better game players by stacking the odds in our favor.
  18. I've got a new preview for anyone still undecided about the mod. http://youtu.be/S5L4ykGy2nc I will be switching out the BAR sound after realizing how annoying the 'brass tinkling' sound effect is. I'll be swapping in a new Thompson sound as well. As far as I can tell, all of the German weapons sound great. I'll need to do a rundown of the Commonwealth weapons, and I've started organizing all of the voice cues.
  19. - Message removed due to self control - Please don't try to directly compare an operational level game to a tactical level game. - Good day sir.
  20. As soon as real life takes a break for a while, I'll get cracking on the voice cues. @ Broadsword56 - The mod does not currently have any voices in it, so any voice mods you are running will still work. It does have weapons, explosions, music, etc.
  21. JK - You did much better than I did the first time out. I managed to get Barkmann killed, and was only able to stop about 2/3s of the allied attack, while losing 4/5s of my own force. The battle ended with about 6 Shermans sitting on the crossroads, and me without any weapons capable of hurting them. Greetings!
  22. Personally, I think the A.I. shouldn't be in an attacking role unless it outnumbers the player at least 2 to 1. In your example Childress, the AI is at a 1.1 to 1 ratio, and that situation always favors the defense. The only other idea, is that maybe the AI is supposed to lose, but is just meant to inflict some casualties to reduce your forces for the next scenario? I'm not saying the A.I. can conduct an effective attack though, just that if the AI has enough combat power, it can win simply through weight of numbers.
  23. @Erwin -> This mod replaces the old one, it includes new music files, and a couple of other sounds have been swapped. @Broadsword56 -> The mod has a readme file that answers all of your questions.
  24. I now have a new computer monitor, and it's freaking HUGE! Thanks for discontinued store displays being for sale real cheap. Also, there will be the updated Version 1 of the mod at the repository, it will be available after it has been approved. It should be somewhere around here.
  25. To go along with requiring a system rebuild, my computer monitor also decided to pack up and die after working perfectly for 7 years. A 12 gauge, .50 cal, and .44 mag with some tannerite and gasoline is planned for the funeral. So for now, the main computer is offline, and I can't get any work done on my crappy old laptop. I will be able to post an updated version of the mod from my backup storage that will contain the music added in. Anyway, mod progress is suspended until I can buy a new monitor.
