  1. I would have to agree with Redwolf. I am no expert on the technical side, but from a users point of view nvidia work with more games which to me is very important, along with Linux support that I will be trying out soon. The speed issues are mainly pixel spray, ie not the main concern. First up I want my cards to work. But having said that I know a few people who use them with flight simulators that are happy. But that is all they run. If it is for a family PC definatly get NVidia. Cheers.
  2. I agree with junk2drive above. Although I must admit I do not contribute just download. If you see your scenarios downloaded a lot of times that should indicate people like them. I do not need a lot of reviews to know that say "Hans Small Battles" are ok as I have followed them for a long time. I never look at reviews as I think I play for other reasons that a lot of other people. I make it one of my criteria to download a scenario from someone I have not played before each time I drop by as you never know who's work you wil like without trying it. I also download a few at a time. If I had to write a review all the time I would go to another site. I will try to wite a few more reviews if it is needed to keep people designing, but to me a poor review is a waste of hard disk space, and I must admit when I have re read the few reviews I have made they are not too good. But since I am only a downloader I will try to do what the designers want as I really appreciate their efforts. They make the game for me. Cheers
  3. I must admit I like the game play in CMBO the best. I like the new graphics and commands in the later games better than CMBO though. I spend my time between CMBO and CMAK. I think for the casual player CMBO is the easiest to get into. cheers
  4. I got the sand and and will get the rest as soon as you upload them. I like the improved contrast. Terrain mods are my favourite mods. Keep up the good work.
  5. As the others have said this looks very good. Will there be a downloadable version of this when it is finished? The PC I use for the net is not the same one I have Combat Mision on. I keep the net completely seperate to avoid viruses etc. Thanks for all the work you have put into this so far. (And no doubt all the work to come) cheers MarkL
  6. With regard to Juju's post above I have Nortons Anti Virus and Firewall. Both of these are very big resource hogs and my PC runs far better with out them. Especially since I only have 250 meg of ram. If any one else uses Nortons Anti Virus do they know an easy way to disable it? It appears to load from the boot files so I can not ALt CTRL DEL and select to close it as this crashes the PC, I have to deselect it in Nortons options and reboot. This often results in me not disabling it. Cheers
  7. I would like to see a mod installer build in that was not as complex as CMMOS so it would be used by texture modders & scenario designers. I would like to select a scenario and before I load it, press a button to see all the mods I have for that scenario re, terrain and vehicles that are applicable to that time period for terrain and vehicles with a preview picture. Then be able to load the selected mods when the scenario is loaded. One text file supplied as a template from Battlefront that could used by both scenario designers and mod makers would be needed to like all the required information. Since in my opinion it is the third party scenarios and mods that that make the game, and help increase sales this area should have full simple support in the next version. Especially since it seems no access will be given to make full scale mods like other games. The game play I am not worried about as I am sure Battlefront will surprise us all with god features as their past performance in that area is very good. Cheers
  8. Have you loaded the mods? You have to put them in the mod folder, select the came you want to mod then look for the new mod to load and load it. Then it will appear in your uninstalled list ready to install. If you still have problems e-mail me and I will give a better description. My e-mail address is in my details. Cheers
  9. I think you were lucky. From posts I have seen in the past more people have had problems with CDV CD's cracking than the CD's from Battlefront. And Battlefront have great product aftermarket support. I would always buy from Battlefront no matter what the price. I will always support good after market support above price any day. From what I have seen and heard about from other people I would not buy a CDV game at all. But a lot of people have no problems with them so I suppose they are not all that bad. Harder to backup some CDV CD's as well. Different copy protection I think than Battlefront CD's. In hind site, long term you made a better choice without knowing it. Cheers
  10. Looking forward to playing scenarios with this mod. Very nice work.
  11. I turn the trees off to issue orders and show all arcs and order lines. Then turn them on again to watch the action. Just does not look right without them. Some nice modded ones around as well. But did not realise the were a hit on the frame rates. I may try turning them off on some of the scenarios / operations that go too slow to play. And as mentioned above, semi transperant trees would be a nice touch in the next release.
  12. Hi Eichenbaum, Could you give a description of how you start your mod, as all I can get to is the quick battle and it only has normal graphics. The loading 3D environment still does not seem to do anything. When the files are decompresing the process stops twice. What is supposed to happen after the files are decompressed? Or could one of the people who have had success describe how the mod installs and works. cheers.
  13. After I download all the new mods for CMBO from MikeT, I will check out the new items at your site. Some of the recent maps sound very nice.
  14. And just when I thought my modem was going to get a rest. It looks like I will be downloading again to-night. Thanks for posting them.
  15. I seem to be having a problem starting the campaign. Probably something I am doing. Are we supposed to be using the Career or Battle sections? If I try the career section it tells me it is loading the 3D environment then drops out. If I start the battle section I filled in my name then pressed start and a dos box came up decompressing files. I had to close this twice when it stopped. The CMBB then started with your splash screen, but there only seems to be a quick battle option. I must be doing something wrong, can you point me in the right direction. I noticed in the registry values you have the CMBB exe as "combatmission2.exe mine is "Barbarossa to Berlin.exe" so I changed this value but it still works the same with both values. Most people seem to be having no trouble so I am guessing I must be selecting something wrong somewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Thanks for posting the full version of Flash Player. One small thing, when I downloaded it from the forum link the .exe entension was missing. Could you let me know where the full Macromedia installs come from as I would like to get the shockwave player as well, and be able to update in the future if necessary. Cheers
  17. How can I get Shockwave if the computer I am playing on is not connected to the web? Where do I go to get a full install versions of Macromedia players? As far as I can see the Macromedia site will only install over the web. Any help would be appreciated. cheers
  18. Thanks for all the hard work. Much appreciated.
  19. Sounds like a good conversion. Look forward to seeing it. cheers
  20. If you get the chance please post the low res mods, I could use them on my old PC and not have to fight the kids for the newer on all the time. Cheers
  21. The manual does have some faults, but it was cheap. It would be nice to see the corrections added to the patch section of the site as they would not be too hard to do and would result in more people supporting the book. It gets a bit of a bashing in the forum which is a shame. From memory Matt was going to ask the author for the originals to post the pictures after an inquiry I made awhile ago. The pictures at the very least should be available for download for those that want them, and hopefully the correction formatted so they can be printed and inserted into the book. But overall for the price it was not too bad.
  22. That fellow sking down the road. Must have hire skies, or trying to get the Klister wax.
  23. It would be interesting to know what hiding is in CM. One can easily lay down with skies on or crouch low. (I often find myself laying down from trying to turn with too heavy a pack on while cross country sking) It would be quiet easy to drop down sidways and use a rifle as well, leaving the skies on to quickly get up. Does anyone know how firearms are carried by ski troops? As rifles could present a problem when crashing with skies on. One of my freinds is in the Olympic event where you shoot from skies and he tells me they carry the rifle accross their back. But this would be harder if you had a pack on as well and needed to use it quickly. To Tar: get a nice pair of steps and leave the Klister at home. Just fill the steps with candle wax when you want to get a good run. Only kidding. I hate klister on what is called snow in Australia, too many wax changes required. Cheers
  24. The one thing I did not try was to upgrade. I did delete all CMMOS before I started. Since it is working now all is ok. If I have to reinstall again I will try to upgrade from the old version rather that do a new install, as that is what the installer seems to want to do in the second round of the installation. Thanks for the feedback. At least I now know it is posible for the installation to work first up. Cheers
  25. Has anyone been able to easily install CMMOD 4.05 to another drive other than “C” drive? When installing to another drive the CMAK directories do not get installed and the program does not list the option in the lower right box for CMAK to set the directories. I have tried to install the program under Win95 & Win98SE to another drive without success. I eventually got it to work but had to copy a lot of files around. If I installed to drive “C” then just copied the all the files to the other drive I received the following error “Took exception while attempting to read CMMOSPath from Registry” The registry entry was: GEM Software Productions CM Mod Option Selector 4.00 Version “4.00” I could not see a path statement at all. Does anyone know where the path statement is? If I could have changed it, the install may have been easier. I kept my old installation on “C” drive to get the files I would need to fix the installation. To get it to work I had to delete the registry entry and install to the other drive. I then copied the CMAK directories to the new installation. A had to also copy the CMMOS.exe from “C” drive as the installed one did not have CMAK in the dropdown box to set the paths etc. I also copied the CMMOS.ini as it had a few more entries in it. This may not have been necessary I do not know. I then set the paths and installed the rule sets then some mods. It appears to working now. It took two installation attempts to get the install to include the CMAK folders under “C” drive as well. Has anyone else been able to install it to another drive than “C” via an easier method? If I knew where the path statement was the problem could have been fixed a lot easier I think. I only like to keep the operating system on “C” and programs on another drive. As this makes backing up and restoring a lot easier, and since I have a multi boot system I need to keep the partitions small within the first 2 GB boot boundary to fit all my operating systems on. If anyone new is using CMMOS for CMBB you must remember to get the updated rulesets from the 2 update pages as well as the rulesets in the main CMMOS section. Hopefully MikeT will post a full set soon at CMMODS to make that step easier. Any help regarding the CMMOS installation to another drive than “C” would be appreciated as I sure I did it the hard way. Cheers.
