Pre-Orders - WOOT!!!
J P Wagner replied to Lars's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
There's an interesting history regarding SC 1 and the need for a CD...when SC 1 was first released, the CD was not needed to play. Then one of the patches included the need to have the CD in your drive...many gamers complained about the change, and Hubert was gracious enough to revert back the original with another patch...let's hope there is no need for the CD this time around too....... -
Pre-Orders - WOOT!!!
J P Wagner replied to Lars's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
People pre-ordered Frank Hunter's Guns of August too.....and are still waiting 3 years later... -
Looking at Blashy's latest pics really make me hope that a future update will allow a top down view option....I have no problems with the tiles at this point since you have to either live with it or not buy it, but I cannot stand the angled view....

For the actual truth of the event, I recommend the book, Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides....it is an excellent account of the heroic act but you will be disappointed when you discover that the actual "raid" was rather uneventful and not the hollywoodized version seen in the film...actually the Filipino supporting actions were more dangerous than what the US faced at the prison...a great event which deserves attention, but take the film with a grain of salt...... High Wire Balancing Act
J P Wagner replied to Desert Dave's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
I think what all this leads up to is an extensive OPTIONS screen to allow you to create the type of balances you want....do you want to try playing a game where the USA remains neutral unless attacked?. Or how about a neutral Soviet Union until 1943? How about having Spain be part of the AXIS in 39? Then a check on a box should make these and many other things so. There is already the ability to limit the number of units that a country could produce so this can go along way in creating balance in the game if players feel the default setting skew the game in favor of one side or another. The default settings should be the game that Hubert envisions for us to play which would, not exactly mirror, but shadow a historical framework. An extensive choice of options will then allow players to take the game to the next level. -
Grigsby's World at War has the Soviet Union frozen until '43 (unless certain conditions trigger an early entry) and I think it works just fine....Keep in mind though that WaW has no Diplomatic model which many view as a short coming in the game, so with SC 2, perhaps if the Axis player sees the Soviet war readiness start to rise, he can invest in some diplomatic/propaganda chits to reduce that readiness percentage...consider it as Germany's way of reassuring Russia, that despite what they think, their treaty is still sound, and the latter's willingness to believe it....I'm sure Edwin already covered this somewhere and in better detail.... This site might prove an interesting read for some of you, especially concerning some older games like Fields of Battle: http://www.gameai.com/games.html The game was in fact released but I never came across it.. [ December 29, 2005, 02:35 PM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ] -
Farewell
J P Wagner replied to Kaptain Karl's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
JJR, I know it it your soveriegn duty to find a commie under every bed, but even you should not waste the time becoming a cryptologist for every word that is written, just to force feed your beliefs on others...have a safe and enjoyable New Year. -

Just so no brands a newcomer as being a member of a hate organization, Kaptain Karl was a character played by the late Phil Hartman and it was spelled that way..... -

Speaking of farewells, is Les the Sarge still kicking about somewhere? I have not seen any posts form him here or at Matrix for quite sometime... with him you never knew if is exile is self imposed or thrust upon him..... -
An excellent book on the subject is Hitler's Airwaves by Horst J.P. Bergmeier and Rainer E. Lotz.(Yale)...it traces the development of Nazi radio broadcasting and propaganda swing . The book covers the broadcasters as well including William Joyce aka Lord Haw-Haw...a cd is included which has many of the propoganda swing tunes that were playing on the German airwaves during the war....a recommended read.....
