  1. I'm in New York, off from work today.... waiting for the mailman. I find it very weird, as a middle aged man, having feelings I havent had since I was twelve. Everyone says that life is so complicated. It really isn't, if a computer game can create this much anticipation and sheer joy, why cant every other human endeavor be this simple? Also, wife is on the West Coast visiting relatives, been alone for nearly a week, have all this time but no CMBB yet, the cruelty of it all....
  2. The first time I played a TCP/IP battle, and my prearranged barrage of 105s landed right on top of a half dozen SPWs loaded with SS Grenadiers, that had just come into view. I had never played a game that showed as much intensity, it was awesome.
  3. Great news, ParaBellum, just gives us some screen shots pleeeeese, bitte. Gruss
  4. I don't believe in karma, but if I did, I would say that this is a response to your "CMBB Released" or the "Top Ten Reasons Why its Great the Europeans Will Have to Wait for CMBB" threads. Steve</font>
  5. Everything will ship from New York, because we all know that is the center of the known universe, therefore all New Yorkers will get their games delivered first.
  6. I believe you are probably right, from personal experience I know there is a big difference between a smoke grenade and a phosphorous or thermite grenade. Does the Swedish book specifically say smoke grenade?
  7. Padlock this crap now please, and no you're not being funny.
  8. When you say "long before Feb43", it would be important to discuss how long before that time, since weather would porbably be the prime factor in all the issues you propose. Since Uranus and subsequent encircling operations took place in the dead of winter in the January February time frame, I am sure the Russians planned to localize the bag to the 6th Army, while establishing postions from which to repulse a breakout or a relief attempt, which is exactly what happened (except there wasnt really a concerted breakout attempt). If things were changed and the encirclement occurred before the dead of winter, the Russians may have coupled it with an offensive further west, or downward into the Don Basin. Interesting speculation though.
  9. Parabellum, your command of English is very good, dont mind the from Andreas, I knew what you meant. English as spoken by Andreas and his mates in the UK, is the "Queens English", and is quite different from the English spoken in the US. (Aussie English is another story entirely). Therefore his jibe at you , "Bugger" is a word most Americans never use in the meaning that Andreas hinted at, therefore most Americans would forgive your usage as probably a typo. We would know that you really did not mean to have "Carnal Knowledge" with the post office, but you really wanted to "give them a hard time" Colloquialisms can get you every time, hope you get the game as quick as the rest of us.
  10. Right on!!!, I think this is what we are all hoping for, however based on the sense of humor that I have noticed on this forum, it would not surprise me if the boys at BFC sent a few out early to selected individuals just so they could the rest of us for a few days.
  11. Welcome Superhero, weird happenings on the forum today...maybe it cant handle 10,000 dopey wargamers.
  12. Oh...didn't I say that the shipment to states west of the Mississippi would be after the Canadian shipment? Something about being anti-Canadian as well. I dont think BFC is punishing anyone who pokes fun at the Aussies
  13. Guess what?.... I just received some information that tells me that anyone living west of the mississippi river will receive their game after, repeat after, the game gets shipped to the rest of the country... something about all of those folks being anti-European.
  14. You guys are so gracious, I will check the forum continuously to look for your glowing AARs, while I await BFC to burn 25 additional copies for the next shipment out. [ September 17, 2002, 11:24 AM: Message edited by: Nidan1 ]
  15. Does anyone have an estimate of how many copies of the game BF will have available for shipment on the first day?
  16. I did a search for previous threads, perhaps my keywords are off but..... When you set an arc of fire for a unit, say a MG in a defensive posture, will the unit fire outside of the set arc if a new and more dangerous threat is perceived by that unit? I wasn't able to determine this from playing the demo. Any help?
  17. You find yourself spending more and more time on this forum because you need the comfort of knowing that there are hundreds of others who have the same weird behavioral patterns as you.
  18. Well, you know I certainly do not want to be labled as a nag, but before I hoof it to the ordering site, I want to make sure that every equestrian possiblity has been explored.
  19. OK, I'll never bring it up again, horses are forever "verboten",OK, now how about those shockwaves.
  20. EEK the dreaded double post. [ September 16, 2002, 07:43 AM: Message edited by: Nidan1 ]
  21. Technically, you are probably right about the effect that horses would have in a tactical CM type battle, but there is enough discussion about it floating around to warrant bringing it up again. I would think that it would be difficult from a programming standpoint to model the effects of combat on a "live" support unit, but it is an intersting problem to talk about considering the significant numbers of horses that were actually used.
  22. I am really surprised that the game will not include horse drawn transport. Most German infantry divisions in the east relied almost entirely on horse drawn transport for supply, for example. Artillery was pulled in some cases by horses as well, although a lot of captured vehicles and prime movers were used by the Germans. The Russians received a lot for Ford lend lease trucks, which the Germans loved as well. The native Russian Steppe Horses or "Panji Ponies" were used extensively by both sides for supply movement over terrrain otherwise impassable by vehicles or European bred horses. I dont know about the Russian side, but there are numerous written accounts from German soldiers relating the relationship between the men and the horses in various units. Meager rations were horded in order to give the horses a little extra during hard times. Wounded animals were slaughtered and served as rations to men that would otherwise have starved to death. I think that I read that somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 million European horses served with the German forces in the east, and that figure does not include the Russian horses that were pressed into service as well. It seems that a significant "unit type" has been left out of the game.
