  1. Played this last night, TCP/IP, as Germans. Battle came out as a draw. Map is really nice. Probably could have gotten a victory if I had moved a little faster. Two more turns and I would have done it. I highly recommend this one.
  2. "Fighting in Hell" is a collection of after action reports from GeneralOberst Gerhard Rauss, Commanding Officer of the 3rd Panzer Army, and others, that gives some interesting insights into the operational difficulties experienced by the Germans during the whole war in the East. It covers Russian tactics under various circumstances, attack, defense, encirclement etc. The weather contitions during all seasons, and the unique difficulties of each. One interesting section described how the Russians used diliberately set forest fires to attack German truck parks and artillery positions. A good read with lots of detail.
  3. I am in the middle of the scenario now, too bad I have to work for a living and I cant spend all my time playing. Playing as Germans against AI, looks really good, I love the map. Did the Americans have that much armor there during the real battle? I know a tough division moved into Stavelot after Peipers initial run through the town. What a surprise!!
  4. Thanks MadMatt, CMBO is still great without the sounds of footfalls and such. I am sure CMBB will be greater.
  5. I was just thinking about infantry sounds, and I'm not sure whether or not this has already been discussed, so here goes. Large groups of heavily equipped men make noise when they move. CMBO gives you an "Infantry Sounds" alert, but aside from a few LOS LOS LOS's and some KEEP IT MOVING's infantry on the move are a silent as Ninjas. During MARKET-GARDEN, John Frost's Paras had to wrap their hob-nailed boots with cloth because they made so much noise on the pavement in Arhem. Is it an issue with development that the infantry of CMBO and maybe CMBB make such little noise. There is a sound mod for just about eveything else, even those God-awful assualt boats. Why can we have the sounds of men moving and running? Am I way off base here? Chime in. [ August 04, 2002, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: Nidan1 ]
  6. Just played "Clash at Katzbach" in TCP/IP. Excellent, I highly recommend it. Good balance of forces, lots of chaos. Kudos for B&T.
  7. I think in 1941 even so-called motorized units were mostly horse-drawn. A lot of the TOE information that you can get from various sources give a "wish list" of what an organization was supposed to have. In reality the German Army in 41 lacked sufficient motor transport for the scope of Operation Barbarossa. [ August 02, 2002, 07:36 AM: Message edited by: Nidan1 ]
  8. gunnergoz, I apologize for a lame attempt at humor, raping and pillaging is not funny under any circumstances, I was being extreme and I dont take sides when it comes to the war between Russia and Germany, it was brutal, unforgiving, and a horrible experience for all directly involved. Maybe we lose sight of that sometimes in the comfort of our homes playing war games. Mea Culpa!!!
  9. I guess along with modeling adverse effects of extreme weather on troops, how would CMBB handle entire battalions of drunken Russian soldiers raping and pillaging in East Prussia and Berlin in 1945? A player on the Russian side would unexpectedly lose control of his units while they wandered aimlessly in circles in German towns for a few turns? The possibilities are endless.
  10. Since the climate of European Russia was such a geat influence over military operations. I was wondering if CMBB weather conditions would be modeled to be more restricting then they were in CMBO? Although the Germans really were not prepared for the climate in 41-42, they did learn hard lessons and overcame climatic extremes in later years of the conflict. I hear the battle scope of CMBB will be larger than in CMBO, so I am thinking that weather will play a much more important role as to its effects on movement, unit morale, LOS etc. Does anyone know for sure?, Has a thread on this topic already started?
  11. Here's my contribution. The greatest war game ever!!! **HUG**
  12. 56 and counting, I have an original copy of GETTYSBURG and TATICS II too, I guess that makes me a real geek.
  13. Next we will be wanting spent brass flying out of machine guns and burning guys in the adjacent foxholes.
  14. I'm thinking now that it might have been two HE-111s not JU-52s?
  15. I remember seeing something on the History Channel about the glider, it was towed by two JU-52s, and I do remember seeing them loading a PzKw II on board, not a Mark IV.
  16. Isn't it interesting, that in the annals of Soviet tank design, they never learned from the T-34 about where to store the ammo. Take a look at Dessert Storm, most if not all of the T-55,T-62 and T-72s were SANS TURRETS after being hit by rounds from the Abrahms. It would be a neat effect though, to see turrets hurtling through the air onto nearby infantry. Oh well, I guess it my be in CM3.
  17. Edit to previous "ghots'?, I guess that should be GHOSTS, you know what I mean.
  18. Minor allies Bah!!! Just ask the ghots of the Sixth Army how they feel about their allies, especially those that were supposed to protect the overextended flanks of Sixth Army, just before Operations Saturn and Uranus. Minor allies may be interesting, however, for 1945 scenarios in Hungary, East Prussia and that area.
  19. Women, why all this talk of women? CMBO has been a wonderful substitute, CMBB will probably be better than a night with Pam Anderson. (and a lot cheaper!!)
  20. Two groups should be sufficient, use one to try to identify his defensive positions, while gaining observation points for mortars etc that you can pound him with. The second group should be the bigger one, use terrain for cover to get as close to the towon as possible without revelaing your main group. Keep your armor back in cover to avoid buttoning, and target as many defensive positions as possible to suppress them. When you can observe his defenders taking cover, begin your main thrust on the town, getting close as quickly as possible, and try to isolate and flank his positions with massed fire and manuever. You will take casualties, but keep your men moving and dont let supporting arms, such as MGs and light mortars lag behind. Good luck!
  21. I would be happy to do that for you. You can E-Mail me now at fmeyer@cablevision.com.
  22. Grisha, Thanks for sharing these, diorama/paintings kinda remind me of similar things I have seen in Gettysburg, battlefield horror on a grand scale.
  23. Welcome, I too am fairly new to CM, been playing about a year. I am brand new to this forum as an active participant, but you could not have come to a better place. I have been playing war games since my father bought me "Gettysburg" by Avalon Hill, way back in another life time. There is no age requirement to accepted here. My son is your age, and since I turned him on to CM, we play IP games as often as possible. The issue of women (either girlfriends or spouses) is a little tricky. All women want a man to devote all time possible to their needs. Cheating in any form, whether with another woman or in this case with CM is strictly VERBOTEN. They are not able to make the distinction, they only know that you are not paying attention to THEM. I have learned that CM is a very demanding mistress. There are constantly new and interesting things surrounding this game, if you get hooked here, you may never have the opportunity to MEET a girl. Just know that CM is probably the best tactical PC wargame ever produced, it may just be the best wargame ever. Just remember its not a bad thing to play games like this, wargamers are probably the best people on the planet. Again welcome, if you would like to play an IP game sometime, E-Mail me.
  24. Count me in, I cook the the best marinated shell steaks in the Metro Area, I'll bring 'em, I'll cook 'em and serve them, just tell me where and when.
  25. shatan welcome, You will not be disappointed, CM is by far the best tactical war game ever designed.
