Any sentiment for WEGO turns ||e?
norvandave replied to LongLeftFlank's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I couldn't agree more c3k. CM is about commanding troops. In reality it takes troops some time to react to new commands. They have to first receive the order, acknowledge the order then assess the new situation to determine the best way to carry out the order. In my opinion CM should not be a clickfest with robotic troops instantly doing exactly as you request. You give an order and see the effect. That to me is the beauty of CM. -
Yes the timing is perfect. The Winter Olympics are finally over (Canada rocked!) and life can begin again, especially here in Vancouver. Back to SC! Looking forward to it.

Just when is Festivus this year?
-
Yes, that would be even better!

To combat slower AI performance I like to press end of turn and go get a sandwich. The problem with that is that I miss messages and reports which pop up during the AI turn. This wouldn't be a problem if we could review any previous messages and reports when it is my turn again. Doesn't sound too hard to do?

Article on Canadian tank ops in Afghanistan
norvandave replied to akd's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
People here may not be aware that Canadian forces lost their 130th soldier in Afghanistan last week. Our soldiers have been doing a fine job that Canadians should be very proud of. -
[game crash] Mouse segmentation error

Hubert, downloading the new Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT driver seems to have fixed things. Thanks very much, and thanks as well for all the great SC games. I have them all. -
[game crash] Mouse segmentation error
norvandave replied to jon_j_rambo's topic in Strategic Command Tech Support Forum
I am getting the mouse segmentation error when playing single player WWII Pacific Theater. I played the other SC games on my XP workstation without any problems, but now I am playing Pacific Theater on a (shudder) Vista machine and started getting this error. Please advise! -

My guess is he didn't declare war on Thailand and therefore cannot land. -

Will we be able to have a Pearl Harbour attack where the US Carriers are there? -
Reinforcements
norvandave replied to goodwood's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
The port needs to be reduced, then you will limit the reinforcement. -
When I play against the AI, especially in scenarios where it takes the AI several minutes to play a turn, I quite often get up from the computer and do something else. Unfortunately when I return I have missed all of the message boxes that popped up during the AI turn and the Combat Losses box that pops up briefly at the start of my turn. It would be great if we could review all of the messages displayed at any time so that I could tell if I lost a unit or whatever else interesting happened while I was not looking. If that is too difficult at least keep the combat losses message box open until I press ENTER. This seems to me that it would not be a tough enhancement?

Good to know! Game looks very promising. Thanks.

I did a search, but did not see a mention of water in TOW2. Is there water, (rivers, lakes, bridges, etc.)? After CMSF... I do not assume anymore.
-
My take... I won't purchase this without a decent AI.

I read somewhere about a custom North Africa Campaign. I have searched but can't find it. Is there one, where do I find it?

Intell Popup
norvandave replied to ebitt's topic in Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare
A very good point. One of the problems we had with SC2 is that experienced players know where to position troops to avoid partisans, but inexperienced players do not. In fact you had to actually look into the scripts to find out just what was needed (gamey). I like some notification in advance to alert the player of some kind of action needed in advance of the partisan activity. -
Ouch. Tom Chick holds forth on CM:SF
norvandave replied to istari's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I would like to say that helicoptors were used in Vietnam sometimes like aerial tanks. If this engine is going to support a Vietnam wargame it would be great to see them. -
I was looking around for a definitive statement on hardware requirements, but couldn't find anything specific. I have a Pentium 4 2400 Mhz with a AGP 8x ATI 9500 graphics card. Will I need a new machine to run this?
