Any way to go from PBEM to tcp-ip?
von Paulus replied to noxnoctum's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Dear noxnoctum, You have to do a save (ALT+S) during an orders phase (ie. your first turn orders phase), then go back to the main menu, select your save in the Scenarios/Operations list. Following this, the game will ask you with which mode you would like to play : PBEM/Hotseat/TCP-IP. Hope this helps. You can also do a TCP to PBEM switch but it is a little different. Best P. -
It is all fair & square... But then it makes me wonder how did BFC survive with BO/BB/AK, considering it was (roughly) a release every two years and a cheap game. Certainly what we can't estimate here is the costs of development. Does a CMBN Upgrade in 2012 costs more to develop than CMBO back in 1999 ? In my view, that seems to be more or less the case, and a little explanation on that fact would help so as to understand why BFC is still using a survival terminology. I am pointing out this because it is obvious that the income must have soared since CMSF and its new marketing strategy. And if this new strategy is actually necessary for survival, it would be interesting to know how did BFC survive between 1999 and 2005, since it is now depicted as a way not to sell your products.

So what you guys think?
von Paulus replied to Sixxkiller's topic in Combat Mission: Touch (iOS / Android)
I just see money making over here. It's an embarassment because it's obvious that the launch of the game has been made (with great genius) to show a beautiful ''war finger'' to the old grogs... who made them. I wish they made CMx1 with France, Poland and Balkans campaigns. I'll never get over it. -
What is left to do once CW is released?
von Paulus replied to xian's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I simply wish there was less hybris. Now CMx2 is uber-ambitious but we're talking nothing that can't be done without several years of programming and ultra-powerful computers - and we're losing numerous beloved CMx1 features. Back in the days, who thought CM would turn that way? -
WEGO vs RT-Is it age related?
von Paulus replied to Stingray's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
24 there, BFC customer since CMBO and a WEGO uber-traditionalist. I barely play games anymore now but I know RT is dead inside of me for sure. And since BO in fact. ---- And I want France and Poland campaigns on CMx1. -
Good job he's not talking about us...

Well this guy is representative of the psychological questions weakening our modern society there. Here in Europe post-WWII socialist school has made a good job of numbing many heads. And on the other hand you've got a population disconnected with the idea of the melee infantry servicemen. What you would have to do for your country, etc... It just smells like bad news for the future, that's it. And to me this kind of article is scary. We're weak, weak in front of "less questioning" people around the world... Sad, isn't it ? And the most pretentious thing is to think we Europeans, detain the key to wisdom. Haha. Sad. -
You nail it. Also I don't think we've had modules out and ready faster than we had BB and AK in a row... heh ?
-
Good thing I see all that available material. Btw, there's lot of missing links - I mean scenarios that were meant to be done someday... where are they ?
-
You win. You also come at the perfect moment. I haven't played any of the Blowtorch website scens and ops, and I'm a verrwwwy slow-pace HvH only. Guess I've got enough material for years to come. Still, Poland and France got to be done. Cmx-whatever.
-
Btw I'm on a CM website. Before BN roughly 20% of ladder games registered were CMSF, 2 years after it was out, other were BO/BB/AK. Almost no new long time members emerged during that period. Now it's 80% CMBN, 20% Cmx1, and no CMSF games at all, or so. I let you draw your own statement.
-
Don't you see I'm in my "world".... Let me be. This said, CMBB/AK has an undying charm.
-
With Poland '39 and France '40, this game would live forever. Just like Steel Panthers and all of its extensions. CMSF is dead already, who knows what will happen to CMBN. Come on, some crazy team of dudes is gonna make this a reality, some day. This is just meant to happen

A lot of old timers coming back
von Paulus replied to Nidan1's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
CMBO definitely WAS the game. -
Hello, Can we expect such an exceptional possibility in the orders menu ? I mean I've lost too many MG and mortars crews in CMx1 due to the fact that they were unable to withdraw at the speed of normal squads. I would like to allow my men to get away quickly despite the loss of the main weapon, leave the **** out when I smell a rat and thus save 25 points thanks to their survival !!! Best Regards Paulus

Sure dumb I may be. I tried the whole TOW1 game, then TOW2 demo. The point is that I just don't understand the interest in revealing that new trailer.
-
I am sorry but that trailer is sadly ridiculous. It looks like some childish war cartoon and shows nothing about the actual way you can play the game. The same kind of stuff you see in teenage arcade games. Duh. I don't get how people can still be dumb enough to be convinced buying a game with such a disinformational ad. Oh, and btw, TOW2 regrettably turned into a strategy tank battle simulator. No infantry never shown in any way... (yeah, sometimes you get infantry actually in the game, but it's often useless stuff) Well... what a about a trailer of german recon infantry opening the path for a platoon of tanks ??? (cause then with the tanks you get the 'kursk' issue ) Sincerely.

Any way to mod point limit in QBs?
von Paulus replied to noxnoctum's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Have a referee. Both players should give him their "10 000 points" wish list. The ref creates a QB, buys for 5 000 points, Then save the game. Then launch another QB and load the saved game map, import the troops and buy another 5 000 points. Or he might even do this within the scen. editor. If you got a third guy there, this is easy stuff... ! -
TCP/IP game connected but data doesn't loads
von Paulus replied to von Paulus's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I haven't heard of any changes for him but well, I gotta ask. Anyway I should try a connection with another player, this may help. -
TCP/IP game connected but data doesn't loads
von Paulus replied to von Paulus's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Yes, he is hosting, I am the guest. This is CMBB, we both have v1.03. I don't remember having changed anything between the few days when it worked, then didn't worked anymore. I made multiple attempts to connect. We tried a new game and a TCP save. He also restarted the game at each attempt. Connection seems to work but I get stuck on the "data D/L" window. My opponent gets to the battlefield but waits for me in vain. Strange ! -
Hey there, I got this really strange problem last week, me and my friend were about to play a TCP/IP game, which worked before, but now when I connect his computer I stay stuck on the "TCP/IP connected, Downloading scenario data, this may take a few moments, etc..." window. Obviously the data doesn't download at all, while my friend is already giving his orders !!! I hope you guys may have a clue. I searched the BFC forums in vain. Thanks Paulus

Planning a trip to Russia; ideas welcome
von Paulus replied to tooz's topic in General Discussion Forum
Moscow - St Pete train ride is 9hrs. But it's night trains... Dunno about the website. City centers in Moscow - St Pete are really clean. However suburbs ain't, lots of trash. And apart from luxury hotels, don't drink tapwater. (i ain't joking!) Chinese people are very smiling but you hard to get friends with. Even a chinese friend told me it's not worth spending vacations here! Russians can be cold at first but then they're so quickly adorable you won't even believe your eyes. That's what made me love this region of the world (besides women!!!) Metro map is on a google search. centre of the city in St Pete is "Nevskiy Prospekt" & "Vassilevski ostrov" centre of the city in Moscow is "okhrotniy ryiad" i'd also recommend you to go to "VDNKh" orange line station, in moscow, it's a huge place built by Krushchtshev gloryfying communism. (north east of the city). Anyway around the red square is enough stuff to keep you busy for at least 1 day. if you like propaganda ( ), go on the circular metro line (brown line) and each metro station is richly decorated.
