  1. of course ... you can find hotels in dark streets welcoming you through the worst of all squalor. (which, in some kind of way, may be fun!) but you can surely find dozens of good hotels close from the center. (and I don't even speak about luxury hotels!!! ) Nevertheless you should buy a travelling guide for those two cities.
  2. Been in St Pete and Moscow from 2008 to aug. 2009, I can tell you these places ain't no middle age! (judging by the average size of cars and errr... average size of heels and skirts...!!!) Your wife shouldn't let you go alone there. If you drive 50kms out of these two cities, yes the time machine is on!! (yet you have to speak and understand fairly russian to avoid any tricky situation... I mean the most dangerous thing here is the police) That's also amazing. Concerning the military museum, I haven't heard about any opening yet. Anyway if you wanna see something cool related to WW2, go to "Park Pobieda" (metro Park Pobieda, blue Line, moscow) There's museum here exclusively dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, with a big paints and yes a few tanks throughout a huge park. Worth seeing the inside, fun pieces of propaganda And well... personnally I'd take the plane between St Pete & Moscow. Faster. More expensive yes. But night train in luxury room is also worth it. Last but not least, prepare for bargaining taxi rides. The point is to stretch your arm towards the street and anyone else will stop. Cheeeeap !!! I mean you can drive 20kms for 500rubles (10$) Real taxis are somewhat costlier. Eventually, if you're an adventurer, take plane tickets and go to Volgograd for a day. You want war things? History's there!
  3. Hi ! Looks like there's only problems and bad things in CMSF when I read this forum. At least this topic is opened to congratulate BFC ... I'm only in the first minutes of the campaign (no tutorial for me in CM, thanks ... ) and enjoy a good and whole new interesting experience ... As fas as I'm a cadet officer this game is good for modern warfare tactics, I think. In fact, it's a good beginning. Good one, BFC Paulus
  4. I have no music & ambient sounds on my home computer, but have the sounds of units on the map. And I have all the sounds OK on my portable computer. Strange ... Drivers ???
  5. Underground ... We keep on moving along ... (like hundreds of people I think)
  6. No. In fact we simply resumed this game some days after beginning it. Then it crashed.
  7. It happened at the 18th turn! We played one turn in PBEM, we tried in IP then it crashed again. Despite the fact that I hosted, I was the recieving opponent and I had the little "ping" error ... My opponent had CMBB crashing too, but I don't know if he had the same error window. I don't what network interface I have. I know I had nothing esle running while I was playing CMBB. Moreover, the reinstall I made changed nothing ... I think I should try an "IP test", another game in IP to see if it's with my save or precisely with CMBB's IP system. Paulus
  8. It looks like this problem is related with the game file I am playing. I think I'll continue with PBEMs ... Paulus PS : The links were useful, but I read no one ever succeeded to solve the problem   Thanks anyway
  9. Hi, It looks like CMBB on my computer has become crazy : I can't play TCP/IP anymore since I've got an unhandled exception each time the "red bar" file transfer reaches its end ... AAArgh   And now, I can't uninstall the game on my computer ! "The install.log file can't be opened" Now I'm a PBEM's prisoner ! This game plays with me    Any solution ??? Paulus
  10. For instance, it could be interesting to order a grunt crewing the AA machine gun of an abandonned tank, whether it is a friendly tank or not. Somehow he would abandon because he doesn't want to waste his time looking for ammo in the tank to reload ... Just an idea ... (I remembered Audie Murphy in the Ardennes) Paulus
  11. Are those penetration values correct, and not over-evaluated at close ranges (and under estimated as the range goes beyond 200m ...) I compared with CM concerning the first screenshots Paulus. PS : I'm too lazy to watch the video ...
  12. I'm bored with point blank range tanks engagements... Bored with that. I looks like 3D Blitzkrieg. Sorry. Show us an infantry company ! 81mm mortars, HMG, etc ... Some interesting battle please.
  13. I'm bored to see screenshots and AAR almost without infantry ... tanks tanks tanks ... ... No urban battles as well ! Would be cool to see battles with (at least) 100 infantrymen. And then some tanks ... And it looks like it's not possible to capture enemy soldiers or to see one's guys surrender !
  14. Frightening stupidity ... Maybe you just can't understand nothing of mortars (because of YOUR experience ) Anyway I'd be happy to fight opponents that despise mortars My best achievement : 19 casualties with a 81mm. (plus an enormous suppression !) The only thing I hate is when they run out of ammo
  15. Well, I can ensure you that a lot of people still play CMBO/BB/AK PBEMs ... The inexhaustible ones continue QuickBattles and the others are engaged in huge battles or operations ... But only a few people are implied in such initiatives. You know, almost everthing has been said and asked about CMBB on this forum So ... we simply continue playing with our favourite partners and keep quiet ... but god knows that underground, thousands of CM games are still underway ... Paulus
  16. Hmmm, alright. I trust you, you experienced "game-making" guys And now I wait and see for further news Paulus PS : I'm sure you wouldn't dare to send us a game without massive-style soviet infantery attacks
  17. I have it. Reassure, there's nothing really amazing ... I mean no intense firefight or massive attack (I hope BFC guys will soon offer us such a video ... ) Early war tanks are firing at each other at close range in the open ground while we can see nearly twenty men crawling in a wheat field. A german tank is hit and we can see a black smoking explosion. It simply gives us and idea of the game system. It looks like a CM RTS game with enhanced graphics and motion capture. (I guess it is)
  18. **** ... wanted to correct mistakes in the last post !
  19. Okay. No prejudice or bias before something playable is released ... For sure, no RTS game can handle large numbers of men but I assume it's not the purpose of Theatre of war. I dare to say that I was at first expecting another CM game but it is definitely not the case, as it clearly different from the CM license. Thus, I have different expectations for this game (no Inf Coys engaged in battles but an excellent visual rendering, and of course last but not least early WWII ! ) Whatever happens, I'm confident in the BFC to create something interesting. Looks cool. I have a last question : When contact with the enemy is clear, how long firefights use to last ? Paulus Well, no link with this nickname, but I'm looking forward to Stalingrad or Kharkov battles, if the game supports this kind of maps.
  20. Well, at first I'd like to congratulate BFC for showing us what seems to be an excellent WWII game. Screenshots are interesting, for sure ... maps are large ... and even huge. That's great  But one of my main concerns is the distances at which vehicles and men engage the fight. It's always close range fighting ! (I mean always near 100/150meters) Moreover, penetration values decrease excessively as the distance reaches 300m or so (and is surprisingly powerful at 100m of less). Of course, I compared with CMBB Did you BFC guys ever wanted to make something irrealistic ? ****, I'd like to pin up inf squads in the open ground at 600 meters or destroy T-34 platoons at more than 1000 meters with Panthers ! (which still remains usual in lots of CMBB scenarios.) but ...oops ... penetration values are limited to 500m  ) Does this mean that this is a voluntary modification in order to limit the distances of fighting ? Well, even so, it is still a beta version ... let's hope things will be greatly enhanced Oh btw, too much tanks in your game ... well as an infantryman I deplore the fact that in a RTS game there will be no unit of the size of an Inf Coy or even Inf Batallion to engage in the fight ... Looks cool, but maybe too tiny (in screenshots) to simulate breathtaking battles lasting tens of minutes ... I hope I'm wrong at all those things ... Regards, Paulus
  21. Arrrrrrrrgh    I got a KV-2 BBQ'd by a Pz-II Flamingo in the "Blitzkrieg" operation ...   I confirm it burns very well ...
