  1. I thought that looked like your Work. I think very highly of it. strt
  2. This all makes a lot more sense to me now. Thanks. strt
  3. Yeah, what he said. It's like some Chinese puzzle, especially with the way some textures repeat. GEM said one of the first things he does is lay out a grid on a Layer for each texture. That could really cut down on the amount of trial & error, but I don't think there's any way around it completely. strt
  4. I've found myself wishing people would incude MGs, Tracks, & interior Colors in a seperate folder. Anything that's shared beyond the Mod itself. strt
  5. What was the main function of Artillery? I've come to understand, for example, that HMGs weren't so much about inflicting casualties directly as they were about (to simplify) suppressing Defenders & denying ground to Attackers. Individual mortars are my 'go to' tool against stationary, well dug-in soft targets like HMGs & Guns, but I suspect 'think 2" mortar X 1000' is not the right concept here. At the CM level & above, what did Artillery actually 'do'? Thanks strt (edit: grammer} [ April 19, 2003, 04:29 AM: Message edited by: mchlstrt ]
  6. I believe Gordon Molek (GEM) is the guy who really got the 'Snowed on' look down with some of his winter Mods for BO. I plan to check some of those out when (if) I get to winterfying my couple of Mods to see how he approached it. Thanks for the links, Zim. I'm trying to find to find any interesting markings or colors for any T-26 lineage vehicle used by any Army in BB, as they are my little 'mission' right now. Gautrek, have you dusted up any scratch-built Mods using the original layers yet? Thought I saw it being referred to. I would be interested in seeing that. strt
  7. I agree. I like the way all of these are headed. Zim, do you have the actual addresses for those reference sites you showed pics from in the other thread Thanks & Thanks strt
  8. I'm still wondering about the Tank cower behavior. I'm a medium-at-best player & it's the one 'problem' I noticed myself before I saw anyone else mention it. I've never seen a response from BXX so I don't know if they consider it correct or aren't really aware of it or what. thanks strt
  9. There is a Marketing term for people who have a large influence on the perception of others concerning a product (or Political idea or whatever) which I can't think of at the moment. I believe this Game attracts a fair number of those people. Older, informed, etc. And this is THE Game many of them play between bought-a-Mac-specifically-for-this-Work sessions. This & the fact that there's some prestige attached to a Game that is developed (proudly!) on a Mac & has gotten so much praise & so many awards might justify some effort on Apple's part if you can present it to an actual person over there. Like in so many things, an endless stream of numbers & statistics becomes one big blur in the Mind, but if you can 'humanize' one particular case it sometimes gets the attention. It also presents a 'White Knight' opportunity for them. My impression is that CM is one .x level of RAVE emulation away from being 'in' for OSX, & Apple could get a small but deep Market boost for a possibly much smaller amount of technical resources expended. I'd try playing this angle if I were talking directly to someone, I think. strt [ April 10, 2003, 01:04 PM: Message edited by: mchlstrt ]
  10. I've noticed this enough myself to bump it. It seems worth a look by the B-Boys, if they haven't already. strt
  11. That's what I do, tho' I usually do colored lines at likely places & angles, then 'bracket' from there, as it where. The Grid thing is a good idea. Make it & copy it from file to file. It would also give you a good reference for how much a .BMP might be stretched or compressed, I would guess. One reason the edges are important is because getting them to 'blend' is part of what makes the illusion work. You'll see a lot of highlighting/shading going on here in peoples' Work, if you start looking for it. Here are a couple of other things I've learned the Hard Way. Be disciplined about putting things on seperate Layers, & just as disciplined about merging them or throwing them out when you can. Also, don't use too dark shadows or too bright highlighting. A little goes a long way In Game. I usually make a Scenario with what I'm working on & at least one other unit I like the look of for a reference. Looking good Gordon. Not that that's surprising. strt
  12. juju, I'm pretty sure you're another Mac guy. I miss the 'compare' element of the ol' MacModMgr. Sounds like this does that for you. Is that right, & if so do you know where I can find it? Thanks strt
  13. From what i can see you've got the rb about right. If you put on the '808' to might want to tone it down/blend it in a little, but that's the only thing I can see in a screenshot to pick on. strt
  14. The overly enthusiastic downsampling seems to be a Mac thing. What MikeyD said about there being 'old hands' at work is obviously true. These are folks with a lot of experience regarding the way CM treats Graphics, including when it has to downsample, & that shows. A lot of the default art is just plain first rate. And if you 'stand back' a little you can see how much better it all fits together. It's subtle but it has a big effect, IMO. I would guess that part is what KwazeyDog spent a lot of time lying awake worrying about. strt
  15. A bump 'cause now I'm wondering too. strt
  16. I was actually playing BB last night, & I noticed a 75mm HT refused to fire on units that my troops had gotten very close to. I didn't think to check the actual distance, but they were well within Flamethrower range, I'd guess around 20m. This behavior with Direct Fire is known & considered correct. Correct? strt
  17. Are they all even assigned a number that would display? XXXX9 is a good bet for some of them, I would suppose. Somebody(else) should test it. strt
  18. Does this installer thingie work for Mac too, or will this be another injustice we get to brood over at our Secret Meetings? strt
  19. ATF, I dl everthing like a squirrel hoarding nuts, but I've been so caught up in working on Mods that I haven't gotten around to Moddin' up BB yet. I had a stray Cap .bmp I was trying to identify so I went into your files looking for a match. While I was in there (41 Heer) I of course took a close look at your Work, for the first time in quite a while. Well, I was stopped in my tracks by how good it's gotten, especially considering how good it started out. I can't imagine what more I'd want from a Mod (not that I DON'T want more, I just can't imagine what it would be, so don't hold back on my account). Not trying to get my nose into your private areas, it's just nice to be able to say something this positive about anything. strt
