  1. I have two machines both of which have GForce Ti4600 cards. One is I think a Gainward card while the other is an EVGA card. I have found that bumping the refresh rate on the monitor does make a difference but it only made a difference on my NEC monitor and not my Sony Trinitron monitor. Both monitors are 19 inch monitors with similar specs. It definitely made a difference in how smoke appeared on the battlefield.
  2. Stug IV correct now. Pure armor QB setting is also very interesting. It just gets better! Hard to believe but it just gets better!
  3. As someone who owns both I can honestly say that the engine in CMBB acts more realistically than the one in CMBO. I still play CMBO from time to time and I can sympathize with your situation liking the Western front over the Eastern front and all but CMBB is the better game. My two cents. Good luck with your decision.
  4. Who said that you couldn't manage to surround or get surrounded? I've been surrounded several times. The type of surrounded scenarios that the original poster describes are generally seen at a much larger scale than CMBB was intended to deal with. I've had great fun being surrounded. Usually happens when I'm up against a good human opponent. By the way, I love CMBB but I'm none too good at it.
  5. Tanks A Lot, There have been some great vehicle and uniform mods for CMBB but I think what you are working on is exactly what the Russian peasant shacks really needed. This will definitely help the look of the landscape. They look great! Thanks and God Bless.
  6. Tanks A Lot, The picture of the Russian Isba that you posted to this thread, is that an existing mod? If so where can I get it because its great! Hope to see a reply soon. This will make my CMBB landscape even that much better. Thanks.
  7. Redwolf posts: It is sufficient to play with historically correct numbers of battles in mud, snow and fow, swamps or even woods mixed it to show that Soviet tanks are far from inferiour. Numerical superiority is not required. -------------------------------------------------- True enough but it sure doesn't hurt to have more which is really what Tiger and Panther were up against more often than not.
  8. Play historically accurate scenarios and you will think differently about Soviet armor. Remember this line, "Quantity has a quality all it's own". Late war scenarios should see 1 Panther pitted against 3-5 T-34/85's or JS-2's. When the odds are at this level you can bet that at least one of the Soviet tanks is going to get off a shot! The 85mm and 122mm guns are more than capable of taking out Panther and Tiger.
  9. I just purchased a EVGA TI4600 at Googlegear.com. They seemd to have plenty of TI4200 cards from various manufacturers. Give em a look.
  10. Ferdinand with a more sophisticated camo scheme. If you make it, I'll definitely take a look. My favorite AFV of the war even though it was a dismal failure. Thanks!
  11. Originally posted by ZOR58: In a game I'm playing tonight my US Bazooka team was in a building that was fired on by a Panther. The building caught on fire, the AT team became shaken and I guess pissed off because they ran out in the street and chased the Panther for 2 blocks before knocking it out on their 4th shot(the first 3 all bounced off)all the time under fire from the Panther and a MG in a wood bunker. They then turned around and took out the bunker. Right now they are out of ammo but nothing around them is left alive and my infantry are taking a casual stroll to the victory locations. Guess I can no longer complain about how AT Teams work for the AI. -------------------------------------------------- All you have to do is read this post and you'll understand that something is wrong with the game engine. Sounds like Audie Murphy was in that bazooka team. This type of thing should never happen. Can you just imagine this in real life? Two guys with a bazooka chasing around a 48 ton tank armed with a 75mm main gun with HE rounds and two fast firing MG's. The tank realizes that it is being pursued and begins to attack the pursuer! In the meantime enemy infantry and an enemy MG bunker starts raining a hail of gunfire on the two men and they come out unharmed having knocked out the enemy heavy tank and an enemy pillbox! Seem unbelievable? It is! All I can say is this would never have happened in CMBB. BTS PLEASE PUT THE CMBB ENGINE IN CMBO AND RE-RELEASE. I'll buy it if it happens.
  12. CombinedArms wrote: I don't think I ever killed a Panther or Tiger with a frontal shot from a Stuart. -------------------------------------------------- You lucky bastard! Happens to me every time I play the Germans and have a Tiger I. Played last night and lost a Tiger frontally. The old hideous, "Frontal Penetration at Weak Point" pops up and I'm suddenly changing my battle plans for the next 15 turns. I can certainly understand why so many players selected the Stuart as their tank of choice because it really does pack quite a punch for the point value.
  13. Not only do I agree with the original poster on this issue but will go further by saying that I have lost heavy tanks to bazooka teams, that in my mind, were way too far away to get off an accurate shot. Even if the bazooka team did hit, the chance of penetrating the heavy tanks armor, seemed to me, was slim to none. In any case I have often lost Panther and Tiger tanks to accurate long range bazooka fire. What can you do except play on. Any thoughts on the accuracy, chance to hit, and effectiveness of a bazooka or PIAT team?
  14. I would have expected this forum to quiet down a bit after the release of CMBB. I still am playing CMBO with some friends as well as against the AI however I personally feel that the game engine in CMBB reacts much more realistically than the one in CMBO. The best thing BTS could do is re-visit CMBO and give it the CMBB engine. I know the chances of this happening are next to none but I would become much more interested in the game if they did. If I had to shell out another $45.00 dollars to get this CMBO version with the CMBB engine I would. Any thoughts on this? God Bless.
  15. The graphics in CMBB are nothing short of tremendous if you look at the game from a World War Two afficionados perspective. This is something the game reviewers are incapable of telling you because they are not solely interested in the subject matter. They look at the game strictly from the perspective that it is another game that has hit the market. If you are someone who is into the latest game with the best eye candy then you might not be that impressed with CMBB. When I see Waffen SS grenadiers clad in Fall pattern Oak A camo smocks run across the Russian steppe followed by a Tiger with zimmerit anti-magnetic mine paste that gets whacked by a T-34/85 with Soviet slogans painted on the side I can only smile. Everything in the game looks unbelievably historically accurate. The community of dedicated modders for the game only make this better. I can't say enough for the modders, you know who you are, you folks are to be commended. If you are just as impressed with whacking Klingon battlecruisers in the Orion sector as you are with zapping demons with your plasma gun or driving your Indy car around the track then CMBB might not look so good to you. If your interest is in tanks burning in the streets of Stalingrad and 44 dot camo then the graphics are more than sufficient to get you excited. I have played WWII games whose graphics did not impress me half as much as the Combat Mission games. From a historical accuracy perspective the other games also left something to be desired.
  16. Even though the lowly Stewart can knock it out frontally in CMBO, I still like the Tiger. Personally I think it is far too vulnerable in CMBO but if you also play CMBB, it is modeled much more realistically. For the Allies I like the EZ8 model of the Sherman. I like the big wide tracks. It looks like a Sherman on steroids.
  17. Nicely Done! I will definitely be downloading this splash screen when it becomes available.
  18. Thanks for the terrific support. I hope that this mistake did not cost BTS too much money. I would hate to see such a great company take a hit. Looking forward to purchasing more of your great products in the future. Merry Christmas!
  19. I also am experiencing this "quirk". You can get by but it's a slower process.
  20. All you have to read is Gaylord's response. Right on the money! As for German tank production favoring one over another? As most of you probably already know, the Tiger was introduced in 1942 in North Africa. Panther was introduced in summer of 43 at Kursk. Panther was a logical answer to T-34. It was arguably the best tank that was produced in WWII after it got over its early model teething troubles. The Germans considered Panther a medium tank and Tiger a heavy. I think the Allies considered both to be in the heavy category. I think at one point the Germans considered making a direct copy of T-34 but decided against it due to the possibility of mistaken identity issues.
  21. Headshot writes: 1-Hide German inf platoons in trenches just in front of each flag. 2-Pin the Russian inf down miles away from the flags with on or off-map arty. 3-The KV-1's will therefore have to try capturing the flags themselves. 4-At point-blank range order your hidden inf to pop up and throw grenades etc at the KV's. 5-Order your couple of 88Flaks to open up from the rear. You mean to tell me you are playing defensively in the early stages of the conflict? ATTACK! ATTACK! BLITZKRIEG! Then when a KV-1 rears it's ugly head and all you have are exposed grenadiers and Panzer MKIII's....UH OH....
  22. This thread has peaked my curiousity about Close Combat. One thing caught my eye on the original post. The original post mentions that Combat Mission is more historically accurate than Close Combat. I guess before I really make a purchase perhaps some of you that have experience with Close Combat can tell me, "How is Close Combat NOT historically accurate"? Thanks to all of you who respond to my post. I hate to spend money on software and find out its garbage. Oh....one other thing, Combat Mission is the greatest game I have ever played. After the release of CMBO and CMBB if I wanted to play war games that are historically inaccurate I play X-COM.
