  2. Sharpshooters work great as scouts. The keys to using the sharpshooter successfully as a scout can be found in the CMBB strategy guide. Move to contact and hide. What this does is it gets the sniper moving and as soon as they make contact with the enemy they drop and hide. This makes them invisible to the enemy unless they get caught in the open. If they get caught in the open then you picked the wrong path for your sharpshooter/scout to follow. In all other respects, I agree with some of the other posters on this one. Snipe at un-buttoned tankers. Tank hunting teams also work good as scouts using the same technique. Really, any infantry unit that can move fast will work. If you have the manpower, a split squad will work well also. Good luck with your sharpshooters.
  3. If you have an Nvidia video card, turn off anti-aliasing.
  4. Not only is there a problem with the accuracy of the Tiger I's main canon but there is also a problem with it's frontal vulnerability against small caliber guns, 37mm. As far as I am concerned, this is an inaccuracy in the game engine. I have posted many times before regarding this German AFV and it's vulnerability in this game. Some more senior forum members initially disputed my observations as being "whiney" - "Boo-Hoo he lost his Tiger". Over time, these same mebers have begun to agree with me on this issue. If I could make some suggestions in using this tank it would be these. 1 - Don't put too much trust in the "invincibility" of your frontal armor against smaller less heavily armed tanks/guns never mind Firefly's. Many a time have I lost a Tiger to a Stuart reversing out at speed at distances of 500 meters ot less. 2 - Always assume it will take your Tiger gunner at least two shots probably three before they start hitting enemy targets. If you think that your elite, crack, veteran Tiger will not survive the encounter then don't engage until you can do so on your terms. Also assume that the Sherman variants will be hitting your Tiger with the first round and if not the first then definitely the second at ranges within 1000 meters. 3 - If you don't already have it, get CMBB and see what the Tiger I was really like. There are 76mm toting lend-lease Shermans and 37mm Stuarts in that game as well. They don't seem to fare as well in CMBB as they do in CMBO against Tiger I. As always, this is my personal observation. It may be disputed and I can respect that but I have had the game, CMBO, for several years now and this has been my experience with Tiger I. I have learned to use this tank more effectively when keeping the above factors in mind. Regardless of how the Tiger responds in CMBO I still hold the game to be one of the best on the market. Actually second best to CMBB's first place position. Happy Hunting!
  5. I couldn't agree more with the last poster, Erwin Rommel. Go back to the western front and either bring it up to the same standards as CMBB or even better with a new engine. In any case, stick with the two main fronts in WWII. The most bang for the buck can be found here. If the new engine is radically different from what Combat Mission players are used to, then going back to the west or east front will not be boring.
  6. Wow! That is an ugly situation fellas. RE-LOAD! I couldn't live with it. Think positive. You get to re-pick all of the mods you like again.
  7. Build your own PC. You can get the exact components that you want and save money. I just looked at all of those Gaming PC sites and decided to build my own. Alienware is very expensive for what you get. What exactly are you paying for with Alienware? Good Luck with your dream machine.
  8. The Germans primarily used K98's. The rifle platform itself is not a bad one for sniping purposes however the actual round they were using back then, 8mm Mauser, was not a particularly good one for sniping. The bullet was a bit heavy and a little slow for a good sniper round. There is a good book by Peter Senich entitled, "The German Sniper - 1914 - 1945". My copy is a big hardcover. It contains a wealth of information regarding all of the weapon platforms that the Germans used for sniping purposes. Good photos and good info. There are even some brief interviews of actual German snipers and their experiences. They did use the G-43 for sniping but semi-auto's are generally not well suited for sniping. Too many moving parts inside the rifle tends to throw accuracy off even if just a little bit. These guys were shooting at targets several hundred yards away and a small hair off meant you missed. Good luck in your search for info.
  9. I see the jagged lines disappear when I enable antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. Nvidia GeForce Ti4600. This makes a big difference for me.
  10. My older card is a Jaton GeForce Ti4600 128mb. My newer card is an EVGA GeForce Ti4600 AGP8x 128mb. 30.82 works with the Jaton but not with the EVGA. I'm running the 41.09 drivers with the EVGA card. Anyone have any advice on this for me? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance to any responders.
  11. I went back to 30.82 drivers from 41.09 and was glad that I did. Thanks for the advice MadMatt. It worked with one of my GForce cards but apparently I have a newer version of a GeForce Ti 4600 card from EVGA in my newest machine and the older 30.82 driver did not work with it. My older GeForce Ti4600 card it did work with. I'm going to try and grab the box from both cards and see what the difference is between them.
  12. Scratch that last post. Here they are: www.grossdeutschland.com www.ktbp.tv/ww2.html The second link is a link to my Re-enactor.com page. Also try www.1944militaria.com www.atthefront.com Both of these sites are vendors that sell kits for re-enacting. Both pages have a good links page.
  13. This is one of the premier east coast Axis units. www.grossdeutschland.com. I have been in this unit for about a year now and they put on/go to some really great events. Also Check my website: www.re-enactor.com Take Care.
  14. Let's add another element into this discussion. The topic of terrain keeps coming up. Let's say you have no idea what the terrain will be like. - Now - What tank are you going to pick? I'll take the Tiger.
  15. Once again, Great job! This will add another level of incredible realism. Take care.
  16. I'll take the Tigers. Better protection and better main gun accuracy. They may be slower but if maneuvered correctly, however much slower, they will prevail against the T-34/85 opponent. Just an opinion.
  17. If you are a CMBO and CMBB fan then get rid of your ATI card. The fog is a nice touch to a great game. I ditched my Radeon 7500 card for a GForce Ti4600 and I haven't been disappointed. If you have the cash I and are a Combat Mission fanatic then ditch the ATI card.
  18. Yes, Madmatt is correct about the 30.82 drivers. You can use anti-aliasing with the Gforce cards with the older 30.82 drivers. I can attest to this because I lost that capability when I went to 41.09. I still have the older driver but I'm not sure I want to go back. I was able to use anti-aliasing with the older drivers though. Thanks
  19. No problem with the Gforce cards other than the fact that you can't use anti-aliasing. If someone has been successful in using it please post. With anti-aliasing turned off the game runs fine. In fact, I love my GForce card. I got rid of an ATI card that didn't show the fog and went with a GForce a while back. The driver that I am using is 41.09. Seems to be Ok. Don't worry about GForce cards. They work great.
  20. Take Schrullenhaft's advice. This is exactly what the problem is. Shut anti-aliasing off. I have tried anti-aliasing on every setting and the only one that works with CMBB is "Off". I have a GForce TI4600 with 128mb. Anti-aliasing has to be turned off in order to play this game.
  21. It's one if not the most accurate tanks in the game? You're kidding me right? In CMBB I would agree, in CMBO I think it's the most vulnerable and least effective AFV in the game. Slow (especially turret speed), armor is riddled with flaws, gun accuracy is poor (this specifically to your point and this thread). This has been my experience over the last year and a half playing CMBO with and against Tiger IE. Turret speed is modelled accurately, vehicle speed and maneuverability is modelled accurately, there is something wrong with the main gun accuracy. Taking into accounts post like the original author of this thread, why do I always find that when setting the Tiger up in an ambush, it can't hit anything for three shots and often gets knocked out by much lighter armor? When I play Allies and come across a Tiger, that is when I move in vehicles like Stuart and Greyhound. In my opinion, these vehicles own the Tiger. I spoke with an American veteran of the war about his experience with these enemy tanks. In the instances in which they came across one protecting a crossroads or a bridge they called in an airstrike on it. Rocket firing Typhoons and P-51's to bug it out or bust it up. They sure as hell didn't call in a couple of light tanks to knock it out! This tactic appears to work great for me in CMBO though. I respect your opinion. Do you really have great success with this big cat? I really would like to discuss this further and get other opinions and experieces with this German AFV. In any case, God Bless.
  22. Good post. Interesting information. I noticed that you posted this under the CMBO forum and not the CMBB forum. Funny though as the Tiger tanks accurate main gun is not modeled to be as accurate as it should be in CMBO. In CMBB they appear to have corrected this in the game engine. I enjoy playing both games but often get frustrated when veteran tankers with good guns/optics can't hit the broadside of a barn under 500 meters. I realize that I am not supplying any examples, screenshots, specifics but it is certainly why I am now playing CMBB far more than CMBO. Good post. I'll try and put these tactics to use against the Red Army in CMBB. The tactics that you describe most certainly would not work in CMBO. The main gun accuracy just isn't there.
  23. I laughed my ass off when I read the title to your post. Thanks, I needed a good laugh.
