1. run that by me again? me thinks i needs elaboration of this one
 2. Yeah i held France for the entire demo, Yugoslavia even had a pro-allied coup near the end. How? Well, guess i took advantage of the AI, but the French navy shot into the med and helped the poms take out the Italian navy, about the same time the Atlantic British navy took out the German Navy, and then the invasion began! took the forces from Cairo and Gilbratar, and the French forces from Africa and landed them in Italy, meanwhile, all the Poms left England and landed up near Danzig, and headed around trying to take MMP areas and generally avoiding contact, most of the German forces left France to take care of this, the rest tried to stay static, but with the time i built more Frence corps and squeezed through holes into Southern Germany to draw him away there, then more poms landed in Holland. Pretty much, i was dying everywhere, my navies got smashed (i think 2 half str B-ships and a depleted carrier left up north, most of the southern navy was there, all 4's and 5's tho) but the end result was the poor Germans were running around everywhere, i didnt think to sell the French navy after it had done its job to buy more forces tho, would have paid for a tank army come to think of it, but when Yugo joined me, i was thinking when Russia joins its going to be a short war but but but, against a person it would be different i guess
 3. Remind me not to say anything other than praise on this forum, some of the replies were worse than the original comments...
 4. Well, to be honest, i had expectations of Grigby's War In Russia with a Panzer General layout, and was dissapointed. i'll probably still get the game, the demo did interest me that much, but Hubert please, the idea is awesome, the foundation is all there. The other posts which I agree with: Scale to to large, halve or quarter the hex sizes and have more units for greater maneuvorablity. Africa has nothing to offer. I have avoided it in all my games. Strat bombing. As the Axis, I remove all fighters from France/low countries, garrison those cities with new corps, have a reserve in case of invasion, and let the allies bomb the ports, the cost of re-strengthening the fighers as opposed to losing a few mmp's a turn is a good trade off. Allies to strong? Aginst the AI is one thing I know, but I wrecked havoc playing as the Allies, by the end of the demo, France was still in my hands, Yugoslavia had a pro-allied coup, the German and Italian Navy were obliterated, and all this by landing British forces all over the Northern side of Germany, and heading East, then when he withdraws to counter this, I land more forces in Holland and Denmark. but apart from my griping i dont mean to give offense, you have done well, and i have played the demo over and over, i hope in SC2 it will be even better! Cheers mate, keep up the good work! Jonnie
 5. I use the wirblewind every now and then if i have a lot of armour, to try and keep it more realistic that lots of axis armour need some air cover. and i must say, i love the thing, high ROF, and tons of ammo to boot, if you can keep it alive (16mm armour in the turret?) it racks up the kills.

I'd like a GeForce2 MX, but the cheapest is NZ$329, so I'll wait a bit longer.

who'd buy an HP PC anyways and if i were you, i wouldnt go out and buy the latest and greatest, the price is always waaaay to much...And that HP is just STUPID! must be made of gold for that price... if you want a MSI GeForceII MX400 with 64MBRAM, you can get em for $198 at www.e-one.co.nz, which is almost half your cheapest price i got one, works sweet as. and you might as well get RAM from there as well, $78 for a 256 stick, altho i've only heard its good, cannot verify...i use Aussie made Legend stuff myself, same price, but Intel certified, looks like the bloody Aussies have done something right eh? and NZ dollars are like double US dollars, so halve everything for the mighty Yankee Dollar, US$40 a good price for 256 133Mhz SDRAM? 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Scipio: [QB]AND - the look of the most British tanks was absolutly ugly  ! QB]

and thats the only part i'll agree with!! please, Germanboy is kinda correct in saying the Valentine is a failed tank, it never went on to get upgunned, and/or upgraded its armour, but then again, thats not the only criteria for a 'failed' tank, hence, he's right, after a fashion Everyone will have their ideas on what an awesome tank is, the Tiger II? it never continued production after WWII (IIRC??), but, was a damn fine tank IMHO. The Valentine to me was an infantry tank for the early years of the war, and because there were so many, were still in service later on, even though better tanks were designed... to me the British never really grasped a tank concept comparitable with the T34/panther whatever, but lets not degenerate this tread into an argument over who started the war, and what the poms were doing in the 30's, I too hope the Valentine will be in CM BB because it was widely used by the Russians in the front lines up until around mid 43 (IIRC, books at home) but to compare it with a T34/85? nah, come on, compare apples with apples!
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by *Jay*: Well, it was damaged due to my poor packing. I blame myself for the damage. I wouldn't dream of asking for a break due to a mistake I made.

yeah, but i'm sure if you sent the original CD, for a small fee they would replace it....wouldnt they?? and it was i, i was the other fella on the hill... Lee couldnt hit a barndoor with a Hummel from 50 yards
 9. Vienna, a custom made map, had briefings that just made me laugh, note, all spelling mistakes are taken from the quote. the German one: General Schmid, i'm pround to send you the best wishes of highcommand. the totally destruction of the tankforces was a good sign of all german units. the battle isnt over. we can still win the war. we made reinfocements available to you. the revenge of the british forces is sure to come. you order is to smash any attack in your sector. dont even think about retreat. gez. Bayerlein generaloberst p.s. stay in the hills dont come back to Berlin. and the british one: Major, I know you overheard the doom of tankcompanies Alpha and Bravo. -snip- p.s. month thinks there shouldnt be to many POW's do you understand!
 10. umm, PIII800, 256, and works fine on the budget 810e chipset but then again, everyting looks great on a 17" LCD monitor But i agree with Panzer76, IF BTS makes the game not as good as they could (yes yes, within reason) and sacrifice looks etc for lower end pc's....well.... but then this from Cpl Carrot: Well, um, yes I do have a 486-50. Its sitting on the floor next to me. With only 4Mb RAM and 250Mb HD, WIN 95 and CM run just great. wheres the need to sacrifice then?? unless he's just pullin our legs...grrrr i suspect he is, but regardless, i bet everyone bitched with the change from DOS to Windows too, and the requirements that went along with it, but, who would go back to a pure DOS system? and before someone gets me wrong, i dont NOT like the current game, even with the high res mods, but i would expect/like in CM BB and CM3 some advancements in graphics, not like Mongol Invasion i got the other day, where even the 2d is still the same.... blah
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by GenSplatton: I think the time is better spent finishing up CM2 myself. Personally, I can live with a few small errors in the game.

i concur, but i like the fact BTS didnt screw everyone over like other game manufacturers by sending out half finished games and then making people wait for the update to fix it all, (not that CM is buggy, i too, can live with small errors if thats what they are) what is being discussed here is not a major change is it?? it should be a pretty easy job to change muzzle velocities and stuff, admittidly, after conclusive research is done (no slight at you Olle! ) so, while they are no doubt researching for CM2, they could maybe add the 20mm to the drawing board... 12.
quote:
Originally posted by The Commissar: Hey Tripps, what was the experience level of those troops?

vet, all i can say is my opponent wasnt the happiest but i must say, its a laugh to watch, from the time they round the corner, and after run to the building, is like 1-2 seconds, we both had to watch a couple times cos we kept missing it!
 13. had some tanks bothering me in a city, mind you so did i, it was one of those fights... but anyways, here is one way to force your guys to fire: as you can see from the screenshots, ran some guys up (others ran into the building to the right of the sherman to assualt/suppress the inf) and plonked them right in front of the sherman, they sure as hell fired then!! they actually then realised 'hey, damn commander, we're in the open!' and bugged out to the nearest cover, which was the same building as mentioned above, and helped turn the tide of the assualt but yeah, in your situation, i would have targeted, but stayed hidden, or if there were no enemy inf around, run some out
 14. i'd agree with Icm1947, its good to get a laugh every now and then thanks
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by The Commissar: I have a grandfather myself who fought on the Eastern front. I dont get to talk to him much since he lives in another country. Im just asking because unfortunately, not much of that generation is left.

excuse me if i'm being to personal, but has he told you any stories at all? i read quite a lot about it, but first hand stories (or second hand will do ) are usually the best in terms of conditions/what really happened/what is was really like and stuff, and, like you said, there is not many left, most of my grandfathers/great uncles died in the resistance in Holland. i think overall, its a good thing there is not many left, it means we aint been killing each other directly on a massive scale lately, if you get my meaning
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by jshandorf: I find that extemely hard to believe. I think the best question to ask oneself before commanding a certain soldier is, "Given the situtation would a commander make this order?" and "If he did would his troops carry it out?" Ordering a jeep to drive willy nilly into the enemies lines is utterly ridiculous. If such an order was givin you can be sure that the "real life" driver of that jeep would just drive out of sight and park. I rarely see gamey play in my games but every now and then I do. Jeff

hmmm, so what you are saying is you cannot do this in CM BO, because western front forces would not carry out so silly an order, but we can in the next version? i understand what you are saying, but my point would be if i were a Russian soldier, there is no way in hell i'd get a couple thousand of my mates, get pissed onna bottle of vodka, and march across no mans land towards the Germans, with linked arms singin whatever the hell they sang! but they did, many many a time, IIRC correctly, before moscow 50% of the force wouldnt even be armed, and were told to pick up rifles from the dead, so if we follow your reasoning: "Given the situtation would a commander make this order?" and "If he did would his troops carry it out?" all these 'gamey' recon tactics would be allowed yeah? i wonder if for a points value we can buy vodka, under fortifications maybe...
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Patton_71: i agree that they had to be used some where...but on another thread...i brought up the fact that i fellow had over 1% of the total production of an entire vehicle run in his game...and it was a consensus that if the 'label' ever applied, it was there. Am i right chad? (18 M8 GMC) Certainly one in a game is fine. but anything more than 2 perhaps would be asking for the 'label'. But on the other hand, anyone who allows an underarmored moblie AA piece to be the game turner, well then he/she deserves it.

lol, i hear ya, and i read that other thread too on the M8's, and i can also see why the labels do get applied, i always make every battle a 'once off', so to speak, so if i met that fella and 18 M8's i would be thinkin 'bloody hell, i'm up against a M8 factory here!' but come on, interesting and informative production notes aside, any stories on how effective they are?? surely you've used/played against them?
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by GenSplatton: "It's only a game, it's only a game, chicks WON'T dig me if I win."[/QB]

damn i thought with an awesome sound system females would appeal to the quad 20mm going off but yeah, your right, someone had to use em, else they wouldnt be there, and it aint gamey, rare, for sure, thats why i've ever 'rarely' used them, but it isnt abusing some flaw in the game, and besides, if it was perfectly historical all the time, why would anyone be the axis, they lost! but anyhoo, i started this thread to hear about how good they were, not how many were made, i can read a book for that... never used the ostwind, as good as a wirblewind?
