  1. Altho' a nicely toasted ham and cheese sandwich would make the survival after party better.
  2. In the game that may be true. But it's a point about "realism".
  3. It's common that the designer has made an error in placement of doors - they have to match in both building walls IIRC. That is the probable issue.
  4. Isn't there something in the briefing re victory conditions require the force to be capable of further action, so ammo and force preservation is important. That's one reason I didn't want to waste it. (These are US units btw, so ammo is not a big problem.) Also, one is supposed to not overly damage the village buildings (with HE and blasting presumably) or you lose points there as well. Taking the village is fun once one has a foothold. Once the village falls things seem to get quiet. Am advancing on the final objective with one inf platoon backed up with a couple armed Humvees and an FO. The beat up engineers occupy the village as IIRC that is an "occupy" objective. The supply trucks and 2nd inf platoon are approaching the crossing that is sure to have an IED. Will use lots of smoke to cover the crossing - like I did when the inf safely advanced in the other direction.
  5. My favorite quote: "To sense some of the complexity of Afghanistan... I've come to Ealing... West London...". Yup, if you want to really immerse yourself in the culture of that region you must visit IndoPakiAfghanistan... otherwise known as Ealing (and Acton)... Where Burkas are almost the norm and you'll be lucky to hear anyone speak English that you can easily understand. Londoners and expats will understand... But, the food the reporter found looks delicious... Have to hunt that restaurant down next time I suffer merciless punitive retaliation and am given another suicide mission to Ealing-Acton.
  6. I notice that it says that a tank would have 5 "greaseguns". If accurate, we need that in CM2.
  7. Was hoping that someone who remembers how mod options are numbered would chime in. I have tried every combination and am suspecting that my DRA mods are not appearing in the game. I looked at my other CM2 titles to see how the mod options are numbered and was confused to find sometimes they start with <mod.bmp> then go to <mod 2.bmp> and sometimes, to <mod 1.bmp>. There has to be one correct way to number mod options, right? Hope a modder chimes in here.
  8. making the pics look like paintings is an interesting idea.
  9. If you actually read my post, I said and have always said there should be a "time delay". The point is that the current ACQUIRE system is very cumbersome, requires many clicks and wastes time that could be spent on fun stuff like tactical decisions.
  10. I recall how everyone was terrified during the Cuban missile crisis. Current situation is nothing by comparison. Seems like populations have been brainwashed to worry more and more about less and less these days. (Helps authorities bring on more draconian measures in the name of making us safer.)
  11. Huh... never noticed that. Maybe I have always split squads...
  12. I keep mentioning a new ACQUIRE process is needed where units adjacent to each other could swap ammo (with some limitations and with a time delay). The current process of splitting a squad so a team can mount a vehicle, then ACQUIRE, then dismount and then sit around to recombine with its squad is ridiculously cumbersome.
  13. Well that was just TOO easy, George. No wonder I didn't think of it! Thank you, mate... PS: For other interested folks, there are 2 mods available: "Africa Theatre Pack" and "version 120 African terrain".
  14. I tried searching BF Repository as well. But that is not reliable. Am hoping that someone here has the Africa mod. I found that I had a zip of it, but it was corrupted and I couldn't open it. BTW: Re naming conventions for graphics options. Does one start with <name 0.bmp> or <name 1.bmp>? Or, is it <name.bmp> and then <name 1.bmp> or... I get confused as sounds have a different convention for options. I think sound options start with <soundname 1.wav>. Is that correct?? Also am hoping that the naming convention for multiple option graphics is the same for all CM2 titles(??)
  15. Re naming conventions for graphics options. Does one start with <name 0.bmp> or <name 1.bmp>? I get confused as sounds have a different convention for options. I think sound options start with <soundname 1.wav>. Is that correct??
  16. Looks like my cat when she used to reach under the door...
  17. Got the scenario, thanks. Couldn't find the Africa mod set. (The CMMODS link is obsolete btw. Goes to some law service.) Don't think the mod is at CMMODS anyway.
  18. Nice pic. Like it when I have teams of one or two guys. Looks a lot better than when one has a team of 5-7 grouped around.
  19. Dear god... we're screwed... Where do I enlist... again...
  20. Thank goodness the US armed forces we have caught up with the Russky's video-making a music scoring technological lead. That will deter them. What's next? Maybe a spec ops dance off?? WE invented that. That'll show em!
  21. "...I'd love to see Turkish forces..." +1 I have 532 CMSF scenarios, and 54 CMSF campaigns in my CMSF folders. (Compare to 40 CMFB scenarios and 7 CMFB campaigns.) Maybe many of the earlier CMSF scenarios sucked. But, it was the only CM2 game in town for 5(?)years and some designers became very good. So, there are many very good to xnt CMSF offerings that it would be a shame to lose. I doubt many will get redone. Unless maybe BF professionally redoes a few dozen of the best and we buy that content as a separate purchase. I would pay for that. "...having done the work for Brits, NATO, Marines etc., it's easy to port them over to Black Sea. And also to bring the Russians to Syria... or Turkey." So, you think that option "C" may be best? If the above is true, that's a point in "C's" favor. "...the core subject of original CMSF was Stryker brigades." Yes, but one can create any formation one wants and not have Stryker Bdes..
  22. "Well from a pure gaming POV I don't correlate fun with body count or number of loud bangs per minute (not implying you do here although our tastes differ)." I do understand where you're coming from. I am not an action FPS fan (altho' they can be fun for change). Am more a fan of WITPAE. I get quite upset(!) when I make an error and half a dozen guys just get killed. I do everything I can to minimize friendly casualties as I identify with my guys and always ask myself what do I think someone in a particular situation would do in RL when I give orders. It's why I love CMSF. It makes the WW2 titles tough for me as higher casualties seem to be accepted as the norm in the WW2 titles - and I am unsure if that's true in proportional terms. It's also the reason that I ask about SOP's and try to understand the Brit Assault and Support formation concept. But, I also know that RL can be very boring and irritating. And I play for escapism and to have fun. Hence my concerns about mines and IED's that can "ruin" a scenario when there is nothing one can do about em. I understand the concept of the randomness and chaos of war. I just want the illusion that my brilliant tactics etc are worth something in an entertainment product.
  23. If the existing (excellent) scenarios and campaigns for CMSF would be usable in CMSFII than "A" would be the best option by far. Am sure we will never get the quantity (or quality) of content in a brand new CMSF version. On the other hand, if it means creating content from scratch, then "B" would be preferable. "C" sounds like it would be a minor add-on and not satisfying in terms of depth or content.
  24. So, "Offmap" arty location is assumed be just off the map edge. So a mortar with range of 1600m will fire 1600m into a map larger than 1600m. Which side of the map is the offmap arty supposed to be off? Can that be set?
  25. Presumably if one replaced the default Bren sound (which seems to be single shot) with a MG sound of a burst, that sound would then appear in the game. The name is gun.bren.wav
