New Scenario: Cat and Mouse in the Promka
Erwin replied to dragonwynn's topic in CM Black Sea Maps and Mods
I noticed that the "recon" squads all have nothing more than the basic AK. However, there were also two full platoons of 4 squads each that were subordinate to the superior Bn(?) Recon HQ, but which possessed what looked like assault unit weapons load out. That's why I thought I was getting all or most of the reinforcements in the set-up turn. If it was your intention that all random units could potentially be available immediately during the set-up turn that's fine. Otherwise, maybe have them not have any probability of arriving until a few turns into the game(?) -
MOUT and urban counterinsurgency (and CM)

That's the problem with you perfectionists lol. Why not just use one of the existing urban maps? To me they all look about the same - esp when one gets down to ground level views. Don't really care if a mosque is in the wrong place. It's about giving a feeling for a similar situation. One has to accept that one cannot make a totally accurate 1:1 sim in CM2. Why get hung up about that? Actually, that's another reason many gamers (like me) won't design maps. Most of us don't care about all those details for an entertainment game and then have to deal with endless criticisms from detail junkies about how some "building is located 50 feet in the wrong direction, and doesn't have windows on the north side" etc. Have total respect for those like you who seem to enjoy creating maps and missions. But you have to appreciate that many/most of us don't enjoy spending our time doing the same things that you do. -
Will there be a 5.0 game engine?

"...get high fidelity 4x4 kms maps that would make @Erwin cry with joy with a snap of our fingers..." Thank you for remembering me... However, I wuz hoping that CM2 would catch up with CM1 and provide 8Km x 4Km maps like wot CM1 had at the start of the 21st century. In terms of providing more info than BF currently provides, they are wise not to. Just look at the whinging and handwringing that goes on when something is announced and then gets delayed. The remorselessly repeated "Are we there yet?" posts probably drive BF nuts. -
New Scenario: Cat and Mouse in the Promka
Erwin replied to dragonwynn's topic in CM Black Sea Maps and Mods
Thank you. Looks very good. My only comment at a glance is that I seemed to have most of the forces that are slated as "reinforcements" in my set-up forces. (eg: The tech units and two recon platoons each with 4 squads.) Is that correct? -

"I was thinking it could be used in WW2 titles as well, for example by requiring the player to clear out (occupy or touch) a potential ambush spot before the tanks would be sent forward as reinforcements. Or make B Company appear once A Company has reached phase line 1. Or have artillery assigned to your sector in case the enemy breaches your first line of defence." This could make recon valuable. You'd have to spot certain units or occupy one of several OP's before the main force can arrive etc. -
MOUT and urban counterinsurgency (and CM)

Loved the book and the movie. Always wondered why no one had made a scenario (or even a 3 mission campaign) out of the situation. -
Thanks CaptM.

So the graphics mod option system misses out the "0" and the "1". Is that true for earlier versions as well? I recall that sound options have a different naming convention. If that is correct, what is the convention for sound mod options?

"The 2.0 upgrade changed how uniform .bmps were named. So, the game will not recognize .bmps using the 1.0 naming system. You can get some older uniform mods to work by renaming their .bmps to coincide with the 2.0 naming system." Do you or anyone know what the naming conventions are? This was asked b4, but no one responded. Am curious re the v1.0 vs v2.0 naming systems, as CMSF and CMA may use v1. I was basing the naming system for all the games on the newer titles. Now am thinking I need to change CMSF and CMA mod names back to v1.0 naming system to have them show up in-game... if only I knew what it is/was.

Possible issues: 1) Numbering of the skin mods may be wrong. (Have had same problem, but am unsure what the numbering system is for graphics mods vs sounds mods other than they are different from some reason.) 2) If the mod has a date appllied to it maybe the scenario date is not the same. 3) Corrupted mod. D/l it again. 4) Other...? Hope someone else more experience can help you.

That's what I was hoping. The instructions were unclear. Thank you...

Yes, I have deleted my own copies of the zipped files from my HD as I no longer needed em. Surely someone still has em and can reupload. (nightops - you never downloaded em yourself??!)

Looking forward to trying this next. Glad you posted the above as when I loaded it I wasn't sure which side I was to play. Played the "King Copper Riots" scenario as the defender but wasn't too keen on it. Are we supposed to play the rioting ("attacking") side in "Riots"?

Not talking about creating a scenario... What I meant by the question is that to get the mods to show up in a current scenario one downloaded to play, is it correct that the location of these "modtag text file goes in scenario folder.txt" files doesn't matter?

"...if only the morale model was a bit more brittle and units more inclined to flee than fight..." -
I just knew that no one would bother to actually read my whole post - just the usual knee jerk reaction. One would have hoped for better... Sad, really... As I said first sentence right at the start: "Thought it would be useful/helpful to discuss what is considered to be the components of "good" scenarios. Am not requesting anything or aiming this at anyone. So, plz no one go off on me... " Also, behind the times as usual: "Oh and you do know that ISIS regards Shias as apostates not Sunnis don't you? My bad... Hey it was 3am..." Why do some people never read the posts but just enjoy pissing on others. Says a lot about their characters imo.

Ok, so nothing to do with making the mod appear properly in the game when playing a scenario...?

Well done. That is a terrific scenario. IIRC: Snake-eye. -

For most humans the scenario editor is utterly intimidating. Some people like coding... or fishing. Doesn't mean we all do. -

Am sure that BF was not formed cos they thought they would get rich as a tiny niche wargame co. They were wanted to make a game that they wanted to play. No way they would have stuck with the CM series thru CM1 and then CMSF otherwise. So, one day another fanatic hobbyist, or a group, will have the same motivation and something else amazing will be born. These games are labors of love. A LOT easier to make money doing other things. -
Liked Op Barras so much will try this one now.
