  1. Boots & Tracks is not out of business. The hosting site, Military Wargamer, has been up and down this week. Keep trying the link and the site will be back up. jw
  2. It is funny how I have changed as a scenario designer - in the beginning I wanted only to make challenging, fictional scenarios that depicted a 'different' situation than the norm. After i did a few of those and CMBB came around I decided to make some 'historical' and 'semi historical' (to me, semi-historical means I could not find specific map and/or unit information, but I wanted to depict an action I had read about) scenarios. I found that I absolutely loved the process of researching and depicting a real engagement as well as I could. Unfortunately, for me at least, doing such scenarios takes me a long, long time (I seem to be averaging about 6 months for a well researched scenario). Lately I have decided to take a designing hiatus. jw [ July 02, 2003, 07:27 PM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  3. I'll sign up for a copy of those. Mail sent. Thanks a bunch, Herr Obserst! jw
  4. Rune - my trolls have been more stupid than your trolls. Yours too, Andreas. jw
  5. Simon - there is currently a ponyri battle finishing playtesting for Boots & Tracks and the 'Kursk Pack'. jw
  6. Ponyri Express will feature both a single player and a two player version. jw
  7. Of course Rune's will be a childish map with no sewers. jw
  8. I just went and created scenarios in v1.03, for October, November and December of 1941 and ran into no problems in getting a 2/3 AP ammo load for the 45mm AT gun, with 5-6 rounds of cannister per gun as well. I redid the test in v1.02 and got the proper percentage of AP and HE (basically 2/3 to 1/3) and no cannister. I did not see a single instance of no AP rounds included with the guns. Note that I used the scenario editor to 'purchase' the guns and set the parameters, not the QB editor. ***EDIT ** I just redid the test in the QB editor and got the exact same results as above. jw [ June 04, 2003, 11:21 AM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  9. This is a map of the Izyium area, near Kharkov. http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/EART/x-ussr/100k/M-37-099.jpg jw
  10. 49th Recce is one of my all time favorite scenarios from CM, primarily because of the absolutely beautiful map. jw
  11. Actually I am looking for a decent map of the Tikhvin area myself for a scenario I have in the works. Anyone got a link? jw
  12. When you see damaged buildings in a scenario at the start it generally is an indicator that the scenario designer autogenerated the map, including damage, and then edited it after generation. jw
  13. Ralph, The 'new' scenarios in the special edition cd are simply some of the most popular scenarios that were designed AFTER CMBO originally came out. You can get them at the scenario depot, or Boots & Tracks, etc. jw
  14. I prefer the gameplay of CMBB over CMBO. There are still quirks that annoy me, but I feel that taken as a whole the game is a real step forward in terms of realism. I do miss playing the Americans; can't wait to have the 'improvements' of CMBB plus the western allied units of CMBO together in one game. As a scenario designer, I preferred designing scenarios in CMBO because I liked the units better. It is harder for me to design in CMBB. That said, I think the scenarios I create are better in CMBB and that I have more control as far as creating a tactical problem for the players. I love the larger maps of CMBB. jw
  15. Rob, the old page no longer exsts on the server. I suspect your web browser is bringing up old cached pages. Try hitting the refresh button. Make sure the date on top of the page you bring up says 5/15/03 jw
  16. Ok, finally the update is ready. It's time for the "Big Boys" of CMBB CMMOS Update. 20 of the biggest, baddest vehicles in the game. Spice up your huge battles with better looking Sturmtigers, IS2's, etc. Also, MikeT's CMMOS "How To" tutorial is included as well. Here it is: CMHQ CMMOS UPDATE PAGE Enjoy! jw edited because I spell like my first grader [ May 15, 2003, 08:55 PM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  17. There are some great scenario designers out there. There are also some really outstanding and upcoming designers. I recently reviewed an operation map from snorri that took my breath away - what an outstanding job he did on that map! I applaud what you are doing GJK, please let me know if I can be of any assistance. jw
  18. I'm working on it! I'm working on it! *flinches under whip*
  19. THe solution is for you all to join the dark side - buy a $500 XP2100 PC and your CM troubles are over. jw
  20. I am currently coding the new page for the CMMOS "Big Boys of CMBB" update. This will entail at least 20 of the biggest, baddest, meanest armored vehicles used in the war on both sides. jw
  21. A group of CM folk and I will be heading to the Aberdeen museum the second week in July. We intend to take lots of digital photos and digital video, which we will make available. jw
  22. Hey Splatty - Make sure your laptop is completely patched up with Wndows Update. I have an Alienware P4 2.8 laptopn with a Radeon 9000M video card and XP. When i first got it I immediately updated the OS. One of the patches gave mis similar problems. I had to back out of the patches one by one to fix it. Since then, a subsequent XP patch has corrected the problem with the first patch. I now have all of the XP patches running and everything is smooth as silk. jw
