  1. Geez Michael pretty strongly worded post. The guy did not intend to upset anyone, merely perform an organizational service. The fact that he did not get permission is at issue here. Some 8 months ago at another website I was putting together a listing of my recommendations for scenario play and emailed you to ask if I could add one of your scenarios to my list. You responded in the affirmative and requested credit be given for the scenario, which of course I complied with. There was no problem. I cannot help thinking that you would have done the same thing with El Cid had he simply asked ahead of time, would you not? Probably not worth getting so upset about, IMO. jw
  2. Personally, I have no problem with the idea. However, my scenarios are released through the Boots & Tracks design team and I would hate to see any credit taken away from that fine group of testers and designers. You will note that at the depot the B&T scenarios are not downloadable, they simply link to the B&T web page. Obviously lots of hard work here and the best of intentions from El Cid. You may add or remove my scenarios as you see fit. jw [ January 05, 2003, 11:23 AM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  3. hehe - I was one of the testers on this scenario. It is indeed a hard row to hoe for the Germans, but is definitely winnable. The more experienced player should be the Germans in this one, without a doubt. jw [ December 13, 2002, 08:14 AM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  4. wwb gets a nickel for every page view. Come on, all of you, help a brother out. jw
  5. I read some interesting accounts of the Seelow Heights fighting in Beevor's "The Fall of Berlin" book. jw
  6. The only one I know of is an ASL conversion of The Schoolhouse, as the previous post mentioned. I am currently working on a new scenario reflecting the battles over Ponyri, north of Kursk (which is the same town used in 'The Schoolhouse'). These battles included the Ferdinands (early Elephants) of the 654th commanded by Major Noak. This battle should be released early in January after testing at Boots & Tracks. jw
  7. That's just WWB's creative version of a bump, he can endlessly come back here 'fixing' the links! Great site Wyatt! jw
  8. I would say, to Armchair, kudos to you for expressing your opinion here in such an eloquent manner. To Rune I would say, release the scenario and let the players decide. Personally, I will not play it, but I don't wish to remove the opportunity for others to play it and, in their own way, celebrate the bravery of the Poles who undertook to defend themselves and their families against hopeless odds. jw
  9. OFFICIAL WARNING: Rune DID NOT put sewers in these Rural Maps! Voxman beware!!!! jw
  10. Hmmm. I have played the Prokhorovka scenario recently and did not have that problem. Perhaps I did not advance fast enough? jw
  11. Sometimes they hit. In a recent game I bought a platon of King Tigers. A few minutes into the game an airstrike straddled the moving platoon with bombs, knocking 2 of them out and gun damaging a third. jw [ December 02, 2002, 08:05 AM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  12. I know that Harv and Makjaeger both got Total Victories as Germans in this scenario. For Mak, it was his determination that he would play it over and over until he got good enough at shoot n scoot to get the Total. I think he played it 4 or 5 times. The best I was able to do was a Major Victory. jw
  13. Those are good points, Andreas, and I must agree with you. I remember during CMBB beta testing when I was designing a steppe map and Rune advised me to have the roads go straight through without a single bend. "Hundreds of kilometers of featureless landscape and straight roads." was how he put it, and a bit of research on my part showed he was absolutely right. For that reason I chose city engagements primarily to do my scenarios on, and Danube Blues and my two SP battles were the result. The thing we must all remember about reviews at the Scenario Depot is that they are nothing more than personal opinions, half the time posted by the loser of the battle. That being said, I greatly appreciate the reviews and watch for consistent complaints or requests in the reviews. If the same thing comes up consistently I will take a serious look at that issue in the scenario to see if it needs revision. jw
  14. Personally, I design my scenarios to reflect a given tactical situation or historical engagement. They are not necessarily meant to provide an outlet for ladder play. I design the vast majority of scenarios for 2 player use, because I think this is where CM really shines as a wargame. My two scenarios in the Stalingrad Pack, 'My City of Ruins' and '6th Army Probe' are designed for 2 player action, but I have included a recommendation if a player decides to fight against the computer. This can be found in the general briefing. 'My City of Ruins' is slightly larger than company size and may fit the bill for a 2 player scenario you are looking for. jw
  15. I will be in therapy when I finish testing Rune's latest monstrosity, involving Italian Alpini. jw [ November 21, 2002, 10:26 AM: Message edited by: jwxspoon ]
  16. Personally I appreciate all the feedback I can get, and consider all suggestions. I think the Scenario Depot is a fantastic resource, but there is a lack of consistency among the reviewers, and I can fully empathize with Rune and Andreas' frustration. That being said, I watch for several of the same types of complaints. Based on an email I received this week I am making a couple of flag changes is one of my scenarios; had the player not made his case to me about the change I might not have considered it. Good for you, TRL, for giving feedback on all scenarios! When the players stay in active contact with the designers, only good things can come of it. jw
  17. The SU-100 in CMBB is as effective as the Panzer IV/70 was in CMBO. jw
  18. hehe, glad you guys have enjoyed it. You are absolutely right about the play recommendations - every future scenario of mine will have it listed in the main briefing. Also on the cd I did the scenario "Hornet's Nest" which is designed for 2 player or Germans against the AI. It is a very difficult scenario requiring the use of the shoot n scoot command to succeed in any way. As a member of the Boots & Tracks team I have designed several scenarios that are available at the Boots & Tracks website. See sig below. As well, I have two scenarios in the Stalingrad Pack but they were designed on the 1.01 patch and will not be released until the patch hits the general public. jw
  19. I have not seen tracers set trees on fire, bt I have seen them set grass on fire. jw
  20. Don't forget folks, there are more scenarios from the Stalingrad Pack that were designed in v1.01. These will be released when the patch is released. jw
