CMRT - BETA AAR - German Side
Vanir Ausf B replied to BFCElvis's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Apparently I am not astute. -
I think he is comparing the ease/efficiency of having the information in-game versus having to alt-tab out and do a google search. What is being referred to as an encyclopedia isn't really an encyclopedia in the sense that you would have to sit down and read through a thick tomb of information. It's just a detailed stats screen.

No. Better all around. -

Correct. You can think of it that way, although there is more to it than that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box He spots better than buttoned tank commanders. -
That too, but I think a lot of it stems from the fact that accuracy was significantly lower in CMx1.

I would take it over all of those things except tank riders.

Discussion of Soviet Offensive Tactics

Tactical nuclear weapons, at least up 'til the mid '80s when NATO began to think they may have a chance in the conventional fight. -
More realistic gameplay in Singleplayer ?

My test in the CMBN forum suggests there hasn't been any toning down of HE blast effects. I would actually welcome some toning down if it were specifically vs. prone soldiers. -
Discussion of Soviet Offensive Tactics

I've always thought it interesting that the Soviets suffered more casualties during Bagration than the Germans, although the Germans has more irrecoverable loses due to the high number of POWs. -

http://www.tarrif.net/ Click on the "Intelligence" section. http://www.wwiiequipment.com/pencalc/ This is a ballistics calculator that can give you a good general idea for what can penetrate what. There are some caveats. One is that the values they use are in some cases a little different than what CMx2 uses, but the differences are usually not large. Also, it does not differentiate between gun mantlet and front turret armor, which can give misleading results for vehicles in which those two values are much different (Tiger I, ect). But it works well in most cases. I can go into great detail. But it would be much easier to redirect you to the discussion regarding it. You may want to pour yourself a drink http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=112981 -

I am not familiar with the term "laddershooting", but I assume you mean bracketing. Hull down positions are presently bugged with regards to spotting, but they are still very good at reducing enemy hit %, cutting first shot hit % in half, roughly. The spotting bug will reportedly be fixed in the next patch. In CMx1 tank shot accuracy was reduced below the "official" numbers to simulate "combat conditions". This was controversial. In CMx2 tank accuracy is more by-the-book. Armor and penetration performance in CMx2 is generally similar to CMx1. If you are seeing every shot penetrate you need to try a wider variety of vehicles and situations. Optics appear to work much differently than in CMx1. Unfortunately they appear to be severely bugged at the moment. Tanks that should spot better at long ranges, such as the Panther and Jagdpanther, spot worse, sometimes much worse. This may be fixed in the next patch along with the hull down spotting issues, but I suspect it won't and will require a second look. Nearby infantry will share C2 info with tanks that are within 3 action spots, the closer the faster. -

I have no issue with someone requesting a cease fire if they feel the situation is hopeless. -

One other aspect of the Evade command is that it can get "pinned" units moving. -

It appears the wall connects to the building in the same action spot as the door. That may be blocking it, even though visually it does not look like it should. -

Curiosity got the better of me, as it tends to do. I re-ran the US 60mm mortar lethality tests I did under CMBN v1.10. In those tests I came up with I casualty per 2.1 rounds in the first test, 1 casualty per 2.26 rounds in the second test. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1400299&postcount=187 http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1400328&postcount=192 Now in CMBN v2.12 I get I got 1 casualty per 2.25 rounds (85 casualties, 192 rounds counted). If there has been any change it isn't showing up here.

Content in potential upcoming modules?
Vanir Ausf B replied to jakla1027's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
The only what if that interests me is Soviets vs. Western Allies. I wouldn't mind seeing the Panther F and IS-3 and Jagdtiger. As noted, the Panther F was nearly ready to roll when the factories were over run, and the IS-3 was real enough although the early models had serious defects. -
To the best of my knowledge the Jagdtiger never saw combat on the Eastern Front. There were 2 companies of Elephants attached to the XXIV Panzer Corps on the East Front, April to August 1944. I don't know what actions they participated in, but they were there so they probably should be in CMRT. They also fought in the Vistula–Oder Offensive in January 1945 and later in the Battle of Berlin.

Tanks still spotting too well ?
Vanir Ausf B replied to Baneman's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I'm not aware of it either. I suspect he is referring to a change made to the moral of bailed tank crews. Tanks that are moving have much worse spotting than stationary tanks, at least when spotting other tanks. But I've only tested it with buttoned tanks, and never against infantry. I've had my own share of WTF moments and sometimes it's in the opposite direction. For example, in a recent PBEM I had an infantry team moving at Quick speed spot an enemy tank sitting motionless behind bocage that had not moved or fired (it was on the first turn of the game). The tank was over 1 kilometer away  But since the "hull down" bug was discovered Steve has declared any further discussion of spotting issues to be null and void so I'm not doing anything with it until CMRT at the earliest. -

Tank crews dismounting to scout ahead is valid real world tactic.
