  1. You could stick with the organic on-board mortars and just use them direct fire. Cheaper.
  2. That's a good point. But trucks are cheap and he probably wouldn't need more than a few. Knowing Bil he'll probably have some sort of transport for most of his infantry anyways.
  3. I totally forgot that there are ammo depots in CMRT. I might switch out the rifle company in my original OOB and go with 2 SMG companies if I could keep them supplied.
  4. How large are Soviet tank platoons anyways? I was assuming 5 tanks like the Germans, but now I'm having vague recollections from CMBB that they were only 3 tanks, which would give Bil some more flexibility.
  5. Given that the StG44 will probably be out of ammunition...
  6. I wonder if the Soviets ever coined a single word for this concept like the Germans did. I suggest a full company of ISU-152s and an elite sniper. Just kidding. I know little about Soviet OOB, and have no idea what the point values are. But after fiddling around in the CMBN QB editor I think a rough OOB that would work is: 1 company rifle infantry (dismounted) 1 company SMG infantry (dismounted) 1 platoon of engineers/pioneers 1 platoon T-34/85 1 strafing aircraft as many organic (battalion) machine guns and mortars as you have points left over for. I'd try to bring at least six 82mm mortar tubes. EDIT: or alternatively 2 SMG companies if ammo depots are available to supply them. The problem that you are going to run into is that the terrain promises an lot of forest and city fighting, which can burn through infantry fast. That's an issue because since Elvis has no requirement for armor, if he chooses to do so he can match or even exceed your headcount despite having fewer points to spend. I'd give you advice on where to place your schwerpunkt, but you haven't asked for it and probably don't need it. But there is an obvious route to your objectives. Problem is, it's obvious
  7. I don't think he has nearly enough points for a force like that. But it's hard to say for sure.
  8. I wonder if this means US and UK CAS will also no longer be on-call after the 3.0 update.
  9. Great news! This is exactly what I was hoping to see. You guys are on a roll this week It's good to know that these sorts of things are modeled underneath the hood, and I take it that this answers Baneman's question regarding whether all "3-bar" tanks are the same. Which leads me to the only other thing I would like to see happen, which is that when you guys do the UI revamp that shows more detailed unit information that this be included.
  10. In one of the threads BFC said March. No specific day yet.
  11. Good news there. So if I'm understanding this correctly, the total map area allowed is still 16 km², but the dimension restrictions have been loosened? I think this is enough for WW2, for the most part. The problem has always been that 16 km² was only a theoretical maximum that was almost impossible to actually play on for performance reasons.
  12. I suppose I don't really consider "summer" to be an exact time frame. Technically that would cover June through September. But IIRC Bagration itself was July-August.
  13. A quick check says the SU-100 entered production in September 1944, but I don't see anything right away about first combat. Come to think of it, I have not yet seen the exact time frame for Red Thunder.
  14. Sig material there. I kid I am really pleased with this. Well done BFC.
  15. Saving your turn before hitting the red button is also a good idea so you don't have to redo your turn if the file somehow gets corrupted and your opponent can't load it. It's rare, but I've had it happen.
  16. http://www.amazon.com/Hells-Gate-Battle-Cherkassy-January-February/dp/0965758435/ref=pd_sim_b_2 http://www.amazon.com/Panzer-Warfare-Eastern-Front-Schaufler/dp/0811710793/ref=pd_sim_b_5 http://www.amazon.com/KORSUN-POCKET-Encirclement-Breakout-German/dp/1935149849/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391063935&sr=1-1&keywords=korsun+pocket It's a German-centric selection, but I've had a hard time finding Soviet narratives outside of Glantz, whose work seems to be mostly higher level. EDIT: Here's something from the Soviet perspective. http://www.amazon.com/Demolishing-Myth-Prokhorovka-Operational-Narrative/dp/1906033897/ref=pd_sim_b_1
  17. When you mentioned there were 2 beta testers in particular I assumed it was AKD and c3k since they had both requested I send them files for review. I also want to extend my thanks to them. I know what a massive time sink that sort of thing is. Not to mention the mind-numbing tedium. Oh and thanks to Sgt Joch, as well. It's good to know he does something other than give me a hard time on the forum.
  18. So optics remains a black box for the time being. And it appears that I will be re-running the long range spotting comparisons after the next patch. *sigh* You're welcome
  19. Targeting errors do happen. Ammo counts: German 150mm howitzer: 120 170mm gun: 100 210mm howitzer: 80 US 155mm howitzer: 120 203mm howitzer: 80 UK 140mm gun: 120 155mm Long Tom: 60 183mm howitzer: 40 I don't think they are at all useless. Most QB house rules, including my own, forbid anything larger than 155mm.
  20. Thanks for the update, Steve. Good news for sure. Is there any word on the optics issue(s), e.g. questions about if they affect spotting (magnification, field of view, ect.), the half-blind Jagdpanther, and so forth?
  21. That sounds reasonable, but I don't see it in the papers. IIRC track tension is adjustable so may vary between individual vehicles.
  22. Sounds like you need to change the thread title to "Alternative to Avast?"
