1.
quote:
They do seem to be high priority targets, don't they... I hate it when my no-AFVs defenders target low threat AT teams instead of the more dangerous infantry squads and MG teams.

Yes, in one of my PBEM I have an empty bazooka team that is being molested by 2 enemy halftracks, while many of my other squads are right next to it and receiving no attention. Of course, that's good for me, but its a good example of what you said. Gyrene
2. Actor, you can actually be too close. I've seen my squads throw demo charges clear over tanks and to the other side, damaging nothing but their egos. The sweet spot does seem to be 25 to 20m Gyrene
3. Kind of unfair that a disabled tank will block of a bridge or whatever, but will not provide any cover. Gyrene.
4. Actually, part of counter-ambush doctrine is to charge the ambushing location. The rationale is that by attacking one point of the ambushing force will reduce the number of weapons involved (Unless the ambusher's friendlies have a penchant for firing at their own troops.) and you will avoid any other traps set up at possible escape routes by the ambushing force. Also most ambush formations have no depth and a quite easy to turn the offensive if a point in its line is breached. Now, I have no idea if that is what BTS coded the squads to do. Gyrene
5. Well, AT Squads have the same problem, we've all seen intances when several squads are shooting at a fleeing remnant of a infantry squad with one soldier left and nobody will touch it, but as soon as a Bazooka or PS team runs into view everyone turns into professional marksmen and the AT Squad is toast. There does seem to be some kind of bias towards targetting AT teams in general. Gyrene
6. I'm amazed at the tree texture used on this picture! Russian peasant cabin? Nifty! Gyrene
7. The tracers, smoke and falling shells are all hard coded and cannot be modded by the users. So I hear. Gyrene
8. Micro$oft owns Close Combat now? That means that BTS is now a competitor of Micro$oft. That's pretty scary, I'd rather face a platoon of KT's than Bill's sneaky business manuevers. Gyrene
9. Secrets for Mac/PC PBEM Nirvana:

Send all files as attachments
Use ZiptIt to zip files. Get it at versiontracker.com
Unzip with either ZipIt or StuffitDeluxe These are Mac programs, by the way. Hope it helps. Gyrene [ 04-24-2001: Message edited by: Gyrene ]
10. Search is kind of pokish, so I'll ask the question here for any kind souls to answer: How does the board keep track of when a message was posted? (Clock time) Does it go by a certain time zone or does it refer to your local time? Thanks in advance. Gyrene
11. but the mg kept firing and the tank plus the infantry left in the neighborhood eventually killed all three squads. Stuarts are Nasty to assaulting infantry that want to knock it out close range. On a Commando Skorzeny scenario "David and Goliath" the last Brit tank alive was a immobilized Stuart and it caused more damage to my remaining squads as they tried to kill it with demolition charges than the rest of the tanks in the convoy did together the rest of the game. That scenario is an excellent example of what infantry can do to unsuported tanks in the right terrain. (The fact that all German forces were Elite doesn't hurt either.) Gyrene
12. I think that CM infantry likes to shoot at bailed out crews so much is because of the "Oh, you don't have your big, bad, tank anymore do you eh, ass****? Take THAT!" factor. At least its why I would shoot at the crews. I have no idea if that was simulated into the TacAI Gyrene
13. Ryan, they're charging $350 for the rides when they come to Chino Airport. The extra $25 must be an LA County tax thing. Gyrene
14. Ok, Gyrene... one question... who were you with? MAG16 HMH462 & HMH363 Hehe, you got the air winger part right, I was a CH53 freak (6113 mech/gunner), but if living in the dirt, working on those dirty bastards in the bush 16 hours a day running your own security patrols on your time off is the glamorous life of a winger than make me a grunt already. Bout you? Gyrene
15. Karl, no I'm fairly certain I didn't accidently hit go, I had already played a couple of turns with that opponent AND several turns with other opponents that night and I was on the "swing" of the turn progression; both times it happened I was attempting to give orders and wondering if my spacebar had gone bad. Then I noticed that the VCR buttons were up. Pretty odd. Specially considering that both times it happened I was in the position to move my tank in for a kill on his tank, but I watched in the replay as his tank telepathically read my intents and backed away. I can send you the turn files in question if you are interested in seeing what I'm talking about. Very strange. I'll give him the benefit of doubt and blame myself instead. Gyrene
16. From my experience, German tanks are kings of the second chance hits, its usually I miss, then they miss, then I miss and then they hit. But this is from a stationary tank, I haven't seen too many German tanks fast moving and shooting. Gyrene
17. Sometimes they will fire on their own, most often you'll have to manually target them. AP round don't do much against buildings or troops as they are basically just one big bullet with no explosive charge. (Usually) The odds of someone getting hit is fairly low, but it does happen. Gyrene
18. Very sharp, excellent use of the masking color. Gyrene
19. I have some PBEM games going and in one of them I got two back-to-back movie phases, skipping one of my orders phase. Has anyone seen that happen before? Gyrene
20. Berlichtingen, you call that sounding off? A gaggle of Air Force women could make a manlier sound than that. I can tell by your slick appearance and close-set shifty eyes that you must have been an admin type, and by Jesus, Mary and Chesty! I bet you were a Recruiter when you weren't counting wooly peter bags at Barstow. But we must be grateful for your service, because every day you spent on mess duty or mowing the C.O.'s wife's lawn was another day that a valuable Marine was freed from that drudgery to go and fight communism, and now you can go hang out at Air National Guard bases and amaze the bus drivers with your tales of heroism behind enemy pots and pans! Now get back to your detail, policing up Peng droppings! Gyrene p.s. Oorrah!
21. Thanks for the book tip Abbott, I'll check it out. Btw, a couple of years ago it was confirmed that Gunny Hathcock was not the highest (Officially) scoring Marine Sniper in Vietnam, but that Chuck Mawhinney can claim that (Admittedly grisly) title with 103 kills and 216 probable. "Except for an NVA paymaster I hit at 900 yards, everyone I killed had a weapon." Near the An Hoa base outside Da Nang, he caught a platoon of North Vietnamese army regulars crossing a stream. He hit 16 with head shots with an M-14, which he often carried in addition to his bolt-action. The 16 were listed only as probable kills because no officer was there to see their lifeless bodies float by and there was no chance to search the bodies." Gyrene
22. Karl, you must have a different version of the manual from me. My page 92 is about Close Air Support. "Manual Version 1.2" it says on page 2 Gyrene
