  1. This is a nice list/compendium. Thanks for sharing your work.
  2. Square pegs into round holes? Perfect. You've just made a lot of Drill Sergeants very happy.
  3. ...and the displaced armor has to go SOMEWHERE. That's usually in the direction the shell was travelling. Spalling, and ricochets, would've been significant.
  4. Top notch! Gotta get this one stickied...
  5. Remember, too, that the BRitish removed the explosive filler. They added concrete (mortar?) instead. More mass meant higher accuracy and better penetration.
  6. I've never used ATG's up front like that. It'd sure be nice to have if the troops need it, though.
  7. Stretch? Bah. That's why I said to start with basic difficulty...THEN try iron on the SAME well-practiced battle. That would give a familiar basis upon which to see the differences. IMO, Iron actually makes it easier to play. You can see what your troops see (information flow, contacts, etc.). Again, IMO. I certainly don't think a new player should shy away from it. The CM difficulty levels would more properly be called "realism" levels. In other games, a higher difficulty level means more enemy, tougher enemies, bigger bosses, etc. Not so in CM.
  8. Crap. It seems like manuever isn't working. I'd order a frontal assault.
  9. For your first game (too late for that I'd suppose...), select the simplest difficulty level. Play it. Then, re-play it from the start. The difficulty levels don't increase the TacAI's aggro or change force levels: it affects arty delays and comms/commmand and control. After a few play throughs at the easiest setting, you should be very good at winning that battle with few casualties. Then, boring as it may be, try it again, but at the higher difficulty. That is where the game shines. Don't be afraid of "Iron". You will SEE the information flow, the spotting, the isolated friendlies: most of this is not available at lower difficulties (or is ignored). Each battle is very different the first time you play it. Don't waste these first impressions while still confused about how to command your units. That's why I suggest repeated plays of the initial (tutorial) battle. Did I mention "Iron" is the way to play? Ken
  10. The Sherman: well, depending on what that hit text stated, you may have degraded something on/in it. The truck: oh, I dream of targets like that! Imagine the red crosses had that round hit! Unloading takes time...I'm willing to bet the truck will still be in LOS at the start of the next turn. (In a pbem game, my air support got some of my oppo's trucks, as did some 2km+ shots. THAT was satisfying. Because once the infantry gets ensconced in good terrain, it's a pita to dig them out. Far easier to kill a squad or more while they ride in a truck.)
  11. Okay, the FarCry 3 editor looked pretty darn cool. How can you go wrong when you can put in goats?
  12. A couple of thoughts... First, thanks for the video. The end result looked really good...but. But the time and effort to build what, in effect, is just a wall, was out of all proportion to what is needed. This really showed how good the CM editor is by comparison. What does the roof of that building look like? Can I get there? How about getting INSIDE those buildings to look out the window? Why are they totally bulletproof? Etc. It seemed to take a LOT of effort to make two walls. Yes, I'd LOVE for CM to look better. But the editor is such a powerful tool, and such an added content bonus for the game, that I'd hate to see it get so specialized that only a semi-pro could create something. The mapmaking in CM can be fast and easy. (Adding in TacAI plans, and then balancing it, are much more difficult.) If I want a rudimentary map, it'll take me 20-60 minutes. A really good map? Well, that's beyond my current skill set. As for the rest...yeah, bigger font, etc., etc., I agree.
  13. I have no idea how to downgrade. I -do- know that BFC has been responsive to fixing known bugs, especially those which affect the game like this.
  14. One of the beta testers is aware of this. And, real life allowing, is trying to look into it. If you have a save of a battle ending with some units which should show up in the NEXT battle, but don't, please let me know. Use this thread. We'll set up PM as needed to swap files. I'd also like a link to the other threads which discussed this. I remember it coming up, but couldn't find it. (My personal attempt at retrying the campaign did not get missing vehicles.) So, if this is broken, this thread is officially the non-official place to post your comments. Err, "constructive" comments... Saves, anecdotes, what PRECISELY you are missing from which battle, etc. Details matter. Thanks, Ken
  15. Ahh, Tactics II. THAT was a game. I bought a SECOND one so I could expand my forces. And, with my trusty medium Bic ballpoint (blue), I drew SS (pink forces) and elite Blue forces. My own game editor. The island made all the difference.
  16. ...and I'd pedantically point out that if you had 2 test conditions and a total of 48 runs, that you really had 24 runs... Interesting results.
  17. Concerned about your well-being? Hah, we were just ribbing you! I only make jokes like that so that I'm accepted by the hip crowd. Sounds like it wasn't a "pick up" truck that hit you: more like a "knock down" truck. I'll be here all week.
  18. ...or at least until a sample or two got bogged in the mud and gotten examined by the enemy about half a year before operational release. ...or at least until a brigade was operationally released before they were fully tested and lost a large number to non-combat losses like engine fires. There's a large gap between an engineered "solution" and a combat-ready weapon system.
  19. Outstanding! This is great, especially the overhead orientation. Thanks, Ken
  20. I thought Fraser Crane was in that movie somewhere??
  21. Yes, excellent. However, I am confused as to how and who will contest the bridge! Mano a mano! Horatio at the, er, bridge! Or am having another flashback? But, seriously, you're doing nicely showing us what's happening. Nice.
