  1. Sorry, but your question is vague. What specifically do you want to know? How to repaint models?
  2. Guys, there is no easier game to mod than this one; technically speaking, not artistically. Just open the bitmaps in PaintShop and start tinkering. It was, however, much easier in CMBO due to the smaller number of bitmaps. The BMP folder in CMBB is a monster, and the real trick is telling which files go with what. Fortunately some wonderful soul has already gone through and identified all of the vehicles by bmp number. Go to http://members.shaw.ca/grossdeutschland/modvehicle.htm But remember--MAKE BACKUP COPIES OF EVERY BITMAP YOU ALTER!!! I cannot stress that enough.
  3. I enjoy small to medium. Can't handle the huge ones because there is way too much going on and I don't have the time to view each turn again and again to catch everything.
  4. None of these graphical mods will do anything besides replace the existing bitmaps. The only thing you should do is backup your original files in case you want to change back to the default settings.
  5. VictorH, No, there shouldn't be any conflict between the game and the graphic mods, any of them. Mine works fine. They're just bitmap files. Jim
  6. Wow, thanks for the continuing interest, guys! Someone asked for the link to the other screens. You can find them here. I think the operational map is my favorite, hands down. Jim
  7. Sexiest Tanks of WWII: 1. Jagdpanther 2. Panther 3. T-34 Sorry, the Tiger is just too blocky and awkward. Like that fat girl with braces and glasses from first grade.
  8. UGLY? Sorry, no way. Ahhhh......I still see its silhouette on the PanzerBlitz box......(misty-eyed)
  9. Congrats, guys! Gamespot reviews carry a lot of weight too, and I typically agree with their analysis. I don't agree with those who said that they always slam wargames. Quite the contrary. IIRC, good strategy titles are always examined against others in the genre. And fantastic "fringe" flight sims like IL-2 (9.2) are given good write-ups. They're one of the few sites that give good, extensive in-depth reviews of games.
  10. Deanco, I don't say this very often since I can always spot things that need to be overhauled. But your interface is absolute perfection in every sense. Elegantly utilitarian and streamlined yet brimming with essential information. Sounds like a review soundbite!
  11. Excellent, the one you did for CMBO was essential in my modding. Thanks for the hard work!
  12. Arax3, I know what you mean, I frantically searched for about six missing War In Europe counters in my living room. Of course, I cleverly disguised it as a cleaning frenzy and my girlfriend never knew.
  13. Ah, nostalgia! I was twelve (1982) and walked into KayBee Toy & Hobby out of sheer summertime boredom. On the front tables, where all of the crap clearance items are piled up, along with the mechancial yapping dogs and what not, there were about five huge stacks of $3.99 Avalon Hill games: FRANCE 1940, PANZERBLITZ, STRUGGLE OF NATIONS, CIVILIZATION and TRIREME. The boxes looked cool enough and I had some curiosity about WW2. So I dumped down my lawnmowing money and took them home. I loved them all, but FRANCE 1940 and PANZERBLITZ were my favorites. STRUGGLE OF NATIONS was beyond my pre-pubescent grasp and it eventually ended up crushed in the bottom of a closet somewhere, along with Axis & Allies and that Roman Empire game released by MB at the same time. Shortly afterwards I got into DIPLOMACY and THIRD REICH. I took a long hiatus during college and afterwards (no time and all gaming friends went away to various schools) but got horribly addicted to SSI's PANZER GENERAL. From there, it was a downward spiral through EFII, WF, TOAW, and CMBO. Also IL-2 and EUROPEAN AIR WAR. Like many here, I don't really play the boardgames as much as I used to but I would never dream of getting rid of them because they are true works of art. Say what you will about computer games and their AI and FOW, but there's an aesthetic beauty, an organic design, that went into the making of those slipcased Avalon Hill titles that no expendable jewel case can match. In fact, I've got the slipcased first-editions of PANZERBLITZ and FRANCE 1940 right alongside my rare, first-edition books, as I truly see them as being the highwatermark in wargame design and deserving of their placement beside ASK THE DUST, BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ, and THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY. Besides, that's the only place where the cat can't get to them!
  14. I emailed SamiV about his elusive prop. poster interface mod and here's the bad news: "Ah yes, that SC interface i was working on. Well, I lost all the graphics i made for that SC Interface sometime ago when windows decided to stop working. I couldnt save them and didnt have backups anywhere. So, that project is dead. Should had taken backups to my other computer. Wel, too late to think that." Guess that explains it! On the upside, he's working on some very nice T-34's for CMBB. Can't wait to try those out. Head on over to the CMBB forum for some screenshots. jbunnelle
  15. No kidding, especially since I was on the verge of assaulting my postman.
  16. Might be a good idea. Although from my point of view, I sort of like having everything integrated when it's feasible. I don't think Combat Mission's forums are good models due to the horrible amount of traffic. Gives me a headache just to look at it. Just my two cents.
  17. You have the Normandy invasion confused with the Invasion of Sicily and Italy here.</font>
  18. Fernando, Your monotone Panzers are excellent and always loaded into my CMBO. I'm sorry to hear you got the shaft like that, even if it was an honest mistake. I've had the same thing happen to me, although not with this game, and I know how irritated it made me, despite people telling me we were all one big happy family and to not be so uptight about it. That's little consolation when you've spent hours upon hours experimenting with texture design. Hopefully this will be rectified. Jim [ October 04, 2002, 09:39 AM: Message edited by: jmbunnelle ]
  19. Yeah, I've got this set on video, a 3-volume set in a slipcase. It uses a lot of declassified Soviet footage. The only thing I didn't like about it was the lack of interviews with survivors, scholars, etc. The dry narration really started to put me in a stupor after the first tape. Just watched Kino's DVD re-release of MEIN KRIEG last night. Anybody here seen it? It's a documentary on five Wehrmacht infantrymen (maybe one in the Luftwaffe), all of which shot a great deal of 8mm footage during the campaign. Very interesting, since there is no war footage shown that they did not shoot themselves. This paints an eerily intimate portrait of the war.
  20. Yeah, "Come And See" was 1986 or so. It's by far my favorite film on the war.
  21. I think it's dead. Haven't seen SamiV in here since August. By the way Otto, thanks for posting my mod on your site, I really appreciate it! Jim [ October 02, 2002, 10:09 AM: Message edited by: jmbunnelle ]
  22. I'm all for it. Really sick of trying to find things in this forum. It's like typing "porn" in for an Internet search.
  23. I don't remember seeing the 9000-point feature advertised but I don't doubt what you're saying. If they really did promise this function, perhaps they will add it in a patch. Just enjoy what you have right now, tell Battlefront what improvements should be included in the patch, and wait for its release. That's all you can do.
