  1. I have it and it works fine. Tried defragmenting (sometimes takes several runs to clear the whole drive) or scan disking?
  2. Welcome, I also been a lurker for a while now, created my account a while before CMBB came out and only posted a few times. This is one great community built upon one great game. I am glad to be a tiny part of it.
  3. Anyone able to host the files on another server? CMMODS is going really slowly for me. Judging from the screens though, this mod looks GREAT! Also it's awesome the textures are made in in Terragen, which is a fantastic program. I hope you can import them into CMBO someday.
  4. Being a former IL-2er myself, I totally understand what you are saying. In fact I was speaking to a friend a few weeks ago about the state of the IL-2 community. I think much had to do with the war with Iraq, people used the forums less for talking about the game and filled the boards with "single-posters" their views. That is not to say this site didn't have the same thing, it's just Ubi's forums really started escalating into MANY personal attacks. Several towards me as well. One person called me a profane name because I replied to a thread with a little joke with a 2000x2000 pure black signature (that is only 5k in size). Also people began to be impatient, IL-2 FB was pretty buggy at 1.0, and instead of getting a patch after the first few weeks, we had to wait about 6 months for the first patch that added very little other than many flight performence tweeks. Now we are seing two new addon packs (with a pay addon-pack) in the horizion. I don't think the impatience of the people will wear off soon. Other than flaming over patches and flight performance data (where everything is pretty much subjective). There is actually little to talk about. There are people who occationally need help, but it's still mostly just fights between people who complain about flight performance as that is basically the only thing left to talk about. Over here the attitude is much different, we have our patches, we have a solid and good top-notch game series. There is little competition so you can't have a lot of flaming "This game is such a let-down compared to ****!!". The PENG threads (althought I am mostly a lurcher and still can't understand them), have brought people together, where they can argue amongnst themselves in a strange yet entertaining fashion. You can't debate too much on vehicle statistics as you can on IL-2, and considering that CM is already strong in the stats area, there is little to complain about. The mods are really friendly, where in the Ubi forums they block so many threads and there is so many people asking mods and developers specifically for questions (that aren't answered for some obvious reasons), to them it's almost like a routine.. Where over here having mods give us info or help is almost an every-day occurance. But a lot of the original members actually are now chatting on www.acompletewasteofspace.com , most are Ubi.com refugee's if you ever want to visit there.
  5. I like both. If I want to play western front I will play CMBO, if I want to play eastern front I play CMBB, and if I want to play Africa/Mediterranian I play CMAK. Simple as that. One of the reasons why the CM series is so easy to get into, whatever front you are interested go out and buy it.
  6. Same problem, i'm running the RealColors mod too...
  7. I find the stock BMPs as good as it is (much better than CMBO's bright blind-a-thon). But you can always make MUCH better, MUCH more realistic and detailed BMPs, especially in the snow area (tanks need to be whitewashed!!)
  8. Personally I like the idea, although I would rather have authentic WWII photographs, these are still better as they are more abstract, also you don't have to see the same unit portrait for the guy over and over again!
  9. CMBB is a fine game...personally I have always wished for the "perfect strategy wargame", one where I don't have to worry about building bases out of thin air, commandos that shoot plasma rifles, or games where tankrushing is the key to victory. Being a major flightsim fan (especially during the WWI and WWII eras), you may call me a dork (which if you knew me personally, I am not) but I have always put realisim, education, and strategic fun before graphics and popularity and until I got CMBO a few months ago, there was no other way to get that balance. Well Combat Mission is a GREAT game...I mean hundreds of REAL units, a HUGE fanbase, nice graphics, especially when you MOD them up...even my dad, who is an army vet was amazed and gave me many tips on how to defeat the suburb AI (don't let the hardcore CMer's frighten you, the AI is way better than your average game). If you want eyelevel, go to http://www.gamerankings.com/ and do a search for Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord (not many reviews for CMBB yet, except for a positive user review you may want to read)...you will be amazed on the amount of positive reviews the game has, and it's ranking is #1 under "Wargames". Oh, and don't let the Gamezone review from the other thread scare you, I've read many of their reviews and they have a habit of giving GREAT sleeper hits BAD scores and the mega-blockbuster "average" games VERY good scores, it's obvious CMBB isn't this under this reviewer's genre. Oh, and you can't move squadmembers individually (unless they are special units such as mortar, bazookas, etc...), there's been a lot of debate over that and it really isn't a big deal when you have a game of such large scale.
  10. Hey, just curious here...now that CMBB is out, will you guys ever go back to playing CMBO? I mean, all these new features, new units, and better graphics...it's hard for me to go back to the western front! So I am just wondering if anyone feels the same way.
  11. Wow, finnally somebody who has system specs just like me!!! Personally I run CMBB pretty well on my computer, although its a bit more beefier than yours...I will possibly get a new processor in a couple weeks. This is my system: 300a Celeron Geforce 2 MX 400 640 MB of RAM Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Playing game at 1280x1024 resolution
