What i wouldnt give for a m163 type unit for the US, would double as an infantry shredder.

Thanks for the very helpful comments.
Yes I think it's my memory that's failing me.  As to the Marders, they did about as well as could be expected.  No problem with their main guns vs BMPs but vs tanks, not surprisingly, it was mostly just hits, but no Milans fired.  Plan to try a couple more Marder vs MBT only see if I can coax any Milan fire.  Just have to be careful with placing so they don't get taken out by the MBT main guns.  Will likely try 4 Marders spread out vs one tank and see if Milans get fired.  With my luck a Marder will score a lucky hit with the main gun and kill the MBT before the main guns fires.
I'll try target briefly for AFV support of infantry coupled with infantry / MG suppression. See how that pans out

US expects to have air supremacy. Question is more appropriate to ask which adversary would you realistically expect to see a threat from. Answer hint. If you are the army the next biggest air threat would be US Marine aviation. 😂

Yeah I thought it would come down to expected US air superiority.  Just wish they'd show and blow the Hinds out the air LOL.

In RL they seem to be successful if TV footage is to be believed(?).  But in CM2, after spending hundreds of hours testing MOS's TOC scenario, have found drones to be useless in spotting infantry or moving vehicles.  (These were Elite Drones with Elite JTACS!)   In CM2, drones are only good at spotting stationary vehicles.

Me 2...  After CM1, CMSF1 was terrific training in how to win with minimal if any casualties.
The WW2 titles were hard as one had to accept many more casualties.  And CMBS is horribly bloody.
Not sure if CMSF2 will also be much more bloody than the original.  Hope it keeps to the same philosophy of giving Blue enuff power to win with hardly any friendly casualties.  ie: One loses if one suffers more than a couple WIA/KIA.  It is very satisfying to win in that way.

I asked basically the same question earlier in this thread some time ago. I never received an answer, but I'm assuming that "OBJ1" is the whole of Wilcox, and that the reference to an photo is for "local color" only.
Another brain twister is in "Day at the Beach." The scenario starts with a platoon of Marine Combat Engineers and Forward Observer team on the beach. I haven't been able to determine why they are there. In my estimation, the only time we'd have Engineers on the beach would to clear obsticles and mines. As a former Marine, I'd expect the initial landing party to be Force Recon to scout out and identify enemy positions. They could also call in initial fire missions if necessary, so the FO team is unnecessary too. Initial setup is pretty much a "head scratcher" for me.

More of a forum support issue but I can't see a forum for that.  Noticed that you can only click a few 'Likes' per day / session.  Is there a reason for that?  If I haven't checked the forum for a while I'll often read a whole thread through, such as SF2 demo feedback.  If folks are raising issues I am finding I'll often click Like.  Can generally only do 2 or 3 though.  Not a big deal of course.  Just curious over the rationale?

I like it when your two man anti-tank team is set up in a building next to a road with a close range "armored target arc" and the assistant fires his rifle first as the tank enters the target area, or better yet if the team discharged it's anti-tank round successfully in an earlier engagement and go back to "wait for the next tank mode", then when the next one rolls into the engagement area the team then decides that now is the time to re-load the weapon, not while they were waiting for the next target to come along.

Just started playing The Passage at Wilcox as a PBEM. I have the blue forces. When I read my briefing, the orders are to secure OBJ1, but when I look at the scoring for the objectives, OBJ1, which I assume is the top objective in the list, there is no OBJ 1, just a number. Is Wilcox itself OBJ 1, or is this a bug?

AFAIK windows defender is good enough security if you don't do any strange things and not worse compare to norton etc. It sure is a lot less hassle. Now I'm not a security specialist and I haven't done exhaustive research, but considering I get paid for IT (business) architecture I'd trust my own advice. 🙂

Playing this one now and it's a blast indeed. IIRC in CMSF no naval guns modeled, but you can use the artillery for a pre planned smoke screen!

I answered this in a different post but on a Mac FOR THE DEMO, the saved games you have to show contents of the .app, then Resources/Game Files/Saved Games. Old style like BN. When the game is released it will have a separate Game Files directory at the top level, just like FB.

    Applications/CM.../Game Files/Saved Games
It's not a Mac thing. It's Charles setting up things on the Mac so you don't have to open the contents of the .app to find the game folders (scenarios, campaigns, saves, etc). Makes it tons easier to add user scenarios. The Data folder is also outside the .app now as well, so same goes for mods.

Had to reinstall the demo - had taken it off. Sorry fo the confusion. The demo is built the old way. So the saved games are at   <demo>/.....app/Resources/Game Files/Saved Games.   Like say, CMBN, you have to show the contents of the .app to get there.

The full game for release of SF2 is built the new way FB is with the game file outside, so you just click on the game files folder.  Much better.

One rarely has enuff ammo to level every building just to see  what is on the other side.  And what if there are "Preserve" points on those buildings?  My point is that this is one of the areas where the CM2 system breaks down.  In RL, most small arms and certainly 50 cal and larger would penetrate a couple of walls and hit or suppress enemy behind the 2nd wall, making that sort of ambush less or non-effective.  In the game, hiding inf behind the 2nd wall of a building is a deadly ambush tactic.

HE modelling seems a weak point in the game, which is a shame because it does such a good job of modelling ballistics etc. Basically it seems HE just subtracts an amount of hitpoints from all buildings in range, no matter what might be in between, and when HP drop to zero, structures collapse.

Yeah the buildings are way too resilient. I'm playing a game right now where my opponent fired three 150mm howitzer shells directly at a building without even causing scratches. It was  a big building, so I didn't expect it to collapse, but at least a wall should be blown out.
However, when he fired on a tall free-standing wall, one hit made a huge hole in it, as expected. So either tall walls are too weak against big HE, or buildings way too strong.
(another point is that he also fired a quad flak gun at a similar building, and two bursts of 37mm flak removed one of the building walls, which is about what I would expect. So the issue seems mostly to be with big HE guns that fire single shots)

Apache reacted to Erwin in Dou You Like Large Or Small Scenarios?
Probably cos I learned originally on CM1 which was able to feature maps up to 8Km x4Km I have always preferred huge maps/scenarios.  The additional advantage is that mobility can become a vital aspect of the game.  (ie;  Halftrack and trucks can be used the way they should be - not sent close to the front lines etc.)
On a huge map there also becomes a genuine reason for vehicular recon.  On a small map you may as well not have any recon or light vehicles, or dismount em all.
