  1. Agreed Determinant, but I was wondering if the Indian units would be included in the British OB, as they were more closely integrated with British Army units than the Aussies or Kiwis were. For instance 4th Indian Division included both Indian and British battalions, whilst 6th Australian Division was totally Australian (at the insistance of the Australian government.
  2. I think a lot of them got bored and moved on to a different game - something to do with Russia. Bunch of dilletantes if you ask me.
  3. I'm only in the also-rans section, but I've no definite preferences. You hum it, I'll try to play it .
  4. BFC don't like people giving details of no-cd cracks because they can be used by pirates to make illicit copies and they thouroughly disapprove of people who make them. I don't think they've ever objected to anyone with a legitimate copy using one.
  5. The Free French fought in both North Africa and Italy. One of the first LRDG actions was a joint raid, with Col. Leclerc's Saharan troops, on an Italian fort at Murzak in early 1941. This was before either the Germans or Americans arrived. None of Hobart's funnies will be around of course, but Hobart was responsible for the training of the 7th Armoured Division when they were officially known as 'The Mobile Force' and unoffically as 'The Immobile Farce'. Of course it wasn't long until Hobart annoyed his CO and was sacked as usual . [ April 05, 2003, 12:15 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  6. On the way to Florence we had a lovely time, We ran a bus to Rimini right through the Gothic Line, Soon to Bologna we will go, And then go swimming in the Po. We are the D-Day Dodgers in sunny Italy. W00T
  7. You don't say which version of the game you have. The patches for the European CDV version are different from the the US/Rest of the World BFC version, particularly in the area of CD checking.
  8. Kingston-upon-Thames, which according to the Post Office is in Surrey, but according to the Government is in Greater London. I've also lived in Hull, Doncaster, Birmingham, Darmstadt (Germany) and Noordwijk (Netherlands). Wasn't it a long way down?
  9. I'm pretty sure MS released a patch to fix this in XP. I'm up to date with with XP patches and haven't encountered this problem. There was some discussion about this on the geek web-sites, but only being a part-time geek I don't remember the details . [ March 29, 2003, 01:00 PM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  10. I don't speak Spanish, so I'd be interested to know why you think this.
  11. The only one I've seen mentioned is to use standard rarity and only allow purchases of up to +20%, however this only guarantees reasonably historical purchases, whilst Fionn's 'rules' for CMBO were aimed more at balance, which is not the same thing.
  12. Probably not much help, but Game down here in Kingston seemed to have a new batch a couple of weeks ago, If one of the shops that told you that they couldn't order it was Game, ask why their other shops seem to have no problem . BTW the version in the UK is published by CDV and officially called Combat Mission 2, so if you told them it was CMBB published by Battlefront, that could have confused them.
  13. Well Nick generously forgot to mention that I surrendered on turn 15, partly because I was worried that as we started late we may be holding the rest of you up, but mainly because I realised that my one remaining Stug and one remaining PSW-222 stood no chance against his KV and supporting T-34s and any further efforts would only delay the inevitable. although it might have scored a few more points for Team Yellow .
  14. Blue2/Yellow2 - I've just sent Nick my surrender. The final straw was a Stug being KO'ed by a T-26 with a frontal shot - the crew decided to bale out after being immobilised. Nick played well keeping most of his tanks out of sight of my armour until my infantry were well and truly suppressed. I'll let Nick provide the gory details when he sees the AAR screen.
  15. Ha! My master plan is working - Nick is mistaking my tactical ineptitude for sneakiness.
  16. Here's a link which confirms the above and has a little more detail. http://www.skalman.nu/worldwar2/su-army-toe-tank-brig.htm
  17. Matt, Just for info, I installed the CDV English (not mutilingual) language version of the 1.02 patch and that too does appear to be the correct version.
  18. The origin of Ghurkhas in the British Army goes back to one of the 'little wars' of the 19th century, called the Ghurkha War, between the British and the Nepalese. The British were so impressed with the fighting abilities of their opponents that the treaty concluding the war obliged the Nepalese to provide some of their fighting men for British service and the tradition was born. These days Ghurkhas serve in both the British and Indian army and competition to enter their ranks is quite stiff. The Royal Ghurkha Rifles are the only non-Guards regiment that provides ceremonial guards for Buckingham Palace. [ March 13, 2003, 11:28 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  19. You have armour left? On turn 6? We could be looking at a possible champ here .
  20. Thanks to Nick for standing in at the last minute. Set-ups have been exchanged and Kampfgruppe Firefly is finally ready to roll. If I lose I'll blame the delay, the weather and Hitler. [ March 04, 2003, 05:26 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  21. It's not just CM players, a few years ago I read the memoirs of a guy who as a young man drove a tank in the 7th Armoured Division in North West Europe. 40 years after the war, when he was successful antiques dealer, he bought a house in the Cotswolds and invited a wartime friend to visit. They took a walk in the hills and stopping to admire the view his friend remarked 'You could find some pretty good hull down positions around here.'
  22. Don't know which is the best, but 14 in. Naval Guns are the most fun.
