  1. The facility exists already for scenario designers and some do use it for recon reports, but not for players.
  2. As with most computer wargames, the AI doesn't attack well, find a good attack scenario and let the computer defend with the set-up left to default. If you start winning those consistently then start increasing the AI's bonuses.
  3. I just watched Time Commanders on BBC 2 and the berks there have got us all beat. 'Hmmm we've got a disciplined smaller force in an excellent defensive position and we're being faced by a larger enemy with lots of cavalry and chariots. I know! Let's march out into the open!' I want to PBEM these people. [ September 11, 2003, 04:16 PM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  4. A friend's Dad was there as the RSM of a Nigerian battalion. He never mentioned it to her, until they were watching a TV documentary together on the 50th anniversary of VJ Day.
  5. You're right the advantage is that they can see over things, I'm pretty sure, but not certain, that troops in the upper floor suffer more casualties if the buliding is destroyed. On that basis I'd put MGs, spotters and HQs acting as spotters in the upper floor and everything else in the lower floor. Of the AT teams only PIATs should really be inside buildings, bazookas and panzerschrecks will cause the crew to be suppressed for a while after firing and occasionally set the building on fire. Bear in mind though that some players will destroy two storey building on principle in the hope of getting an expensive artillery spotter, the AI doesn't do this though, if you have other cover with a good LOS for your spotters use that instead.
  6. Yes it looks just like Tuscany, although these days the British ex-pats don't drive Shermans.
  7. There was a thread about it on the General Forum, BFC prefer that we discuss other company's games over there
  8. I agree about using Moorehead as a definitive source, Michael, he's a journalist not a historian and his book(s) are really a collection of his despatches. He hailed from a time when journalists were expected to be good writers though, and they're a good read if you take them for what they are, eyewitness accounts that do a good job of conveying the feel of the strange war in the desert.
  9. Excellent book I agree, the paperback version comes in 3 volumes nowadays, subtitled Wavell's Command, Auchinleck's Command and Montgomery and El Alamein
  10. See the thread that was moved to the General Forum, probably the same place as this one's heading .
  11. If you mean Moorehead's book Amazon.co.uk link Amazon.com link Both sites have it on special offer. I'm not sure about the book that Ant was talking about,
  12. No idea why 3D games cause nausea, Tom, but I'm glad to see you finally got it work for you with no problems. Always nice to see another old time wargamer here .
  13. CMMODs is a good site for mods, for extra scenarios The Scenario Depot has the largest number. There is also Boots and Tracks which doesn't have so many, but what they have is of a very high quality, most of the stuff is by guys who designed the scenarios for CMBB. Edit to note that Boots and Tracks site appears to be down at the moment . [ September 08, 2003, 05:25 PM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  14. Orwell's Homage to Catalonia is good as a personal reminiscence and gives details of how the militias on the Catalan front operated and lived. Huw Thomas' The Spanish Civil War and Ronald Fraser's The Blood of Spain are pretty good too, but again only look at the big picture and wouldn't be much help if you were looking for information for a wargame scenario.
  15. I don't care who they get to do the job, just as long as they can spell maggotise properly.
  16. I read a few of Don Featherstone's wargames books when I was a lot younger, but not this one. IIRC Don was a former tanker who'd served in North Africa. (Edit because I shouldn't post until I've woken up) [ September 05, 2003, 11:11 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ]
  17. Thanks as usual guys. Do you think you could slow down a bit, you're producing them faster than I can PBEM them .
  18. . Idiot! The OED would spell it Maggotised. Bloody Yanks, you lend 'em your language and they don't even take care of it    .
  19. I think the problem is that a lot of people are exclusively playing CMBB these days, you could always try one of the ladders: Rugged Defense Blitzkrieg Wargaming Club
