Next Combat Mission game
Sgt. Steiner replied to Kaiser Soze 71's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The next game is supposed to be the Med, which will include Italy and North Africa. What could be better than that? Tobruk, El Alamein, Anzio, Salerno, Monte Cassino, Crete 1941. Mmm, lots of gaming goodness there.. -
Juju does it again: City Roads and Pavement, anyone?
Sgt. Steiner replied to Juju's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Same here; getting "Error 500" when trying to d/l. Hope it's resolved soon, the mod looks great! -
Coe's post got me thinking. Why should German crews bailing out only have pistols. The MP-40 was designed for tank crews in the first place; I should think at least some of the crew would have them?
-
Any photos of these German T-34's w/cupolas, etc? Would be neat to see. Some mods for them would be cool too..
-
I got that from an east front book, one of the Squadron/Signal titles, as I remember. The book says re-bored, perhaps the author meant re-barrelled? Unless possibly they did rebore them, and then put in a barrel insert. OK Ostfront grogs, anything in your piles of dusty tomes concerning this?
-
One way around the problem is to put the turret number on the rear of the turret stowage box. Of course all tanks in the platoon would still have the same number, but if you use 1 each of the different Tiger I versions (early, late, steel wheels, etc)you can have a different number for each of them. Of course if you're doing say, a 1942 scenario, you'll have to put panzer grey paint on all of the Tiger I variants..

I don't know about the captured German vehicles the Russians used, but the captured T-34's in German service had the barrels re-bored in order to use standard German 75mm. This was done in order to standardize ammo with other German vehicles. In fact, the Germans had at least one facility set up to do nothing but refurbish captured T-34's..

Nividia Drivers 40.72 - Don't Work For Me
Sgt. Steiner replied to Voxman's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Hmm, I'm using the 40.72's and everything works fine. Unless FSAA is enabled, which causes scenario menu and briefing screen text to disappear. Weird... -
Still play CMBO occasionally, but the improvements in CMBB are making that happen less and less. The (finally) working German optics, (finally) effective HMG's, cover arcs, better vehicle models, graphics, and everything else leave CMBO kind of flat nowadays. Plus, blowing up things with red stars and the hammer & sickle on them is much more satisfying...

No "Chew on this pineapple, Fritz!" in CMBB
Sgt. Steiner replied to BloodyBucket's topic in Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord
Western Front is OK, but the East is where the titanic battles were. The battle of Kursk, for example, makes Normandy look like a circus sideshow in comparison. -
RealColor Mod for CMBB Finished!
Sgt. Steiner replied to GunMod's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
250 MB! Ackk..ackk! On my dial-up that will only take a couple of years to d/l. Howabout maybe sending a copy to Burnadisc.com? -
And let's not forget the camp followers either...

New Road Wheels for T34/85
Sgt. Steiner replied to MrNoobie's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Don't see the mod there yet. Only new one for today (so far) is "darkened barbed wire"... -
Just paid a visit to Gamespot Complete, and CMBB is now at No. 2 in the Gamespot Top Ten. Only one surpassing it is Age of Mythology. Keep visiting Battlefront often guys, as this Top Ten is based on website traffic. Who knows, at this rate CMBB might make their No. 1!

The Russians were indeed very big users of ATR's. The biggest, in fact. They continued to use them long after other armies had abandoned them. All that "bazooka plate" on the sides of Mk.III's and Mk.IV's is testament to that. I know the ATR's were pretty much useless against Tigers, Panthers, etc, but I have little information on how well they did against 'tracks. Half-track armor wasn't all that thick, so I would think an ATR should do well against it. I'm sure one of the uber-grogs will shortly dig into his piles of dusty old tomes and bombard us with stats on this..

Anyone working on some hi-res mods for panzer grey painted vehicles? Would especially love to see some for the early Tiger I. The Tiger Tiger! scenario just begs for them. Lots of panzer grey there. Just played that one, and boy was it a lot of fun (for the Germans anyway ). I imagine the Russians must have really crapped their pants the first time they ran into the Tiger...

Shock waves for CMBB there is a mod
Sgt. Steiner replied to tracer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Oh, by all means post any mod you may have. It'll be there for those that like it, and those that don't, well they can simply ignore it.. -
What's Cookin' in the MOD Kitchen?
Sgt. Steiner replied to AndrewTF's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, they do have big heads. In CMBO they just looked like stick men, now they're stick men with big heads.. I love both games, but the soldier graphics have always left much to be desired. Hopefully the soldier computer models will be more life-like after the engine re-write.. -
Shock waves for CMBB there is a mod
Sgt. Steiner replied to tracer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I can live without the "shockwaves". Always did think those "force-field bubbles" were ludicrous looking anyway in CMBO. You don't see glowing domes everywhere during a real-life artillery barrage, or when an AFV explodes. I'll take the realism any day. Now, for those of you that like them, knock yourself out! -
Can Slings be modded on rifles??
Sgt. Steiner replied to tracer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Same here. Obtained one at a time, over a period of several years. Sometimes just a few parts at a time. Only difference is I don't have to hide new ones from the wife, as she hasn't been issued yet.. Too bad they don't allow class III up there, but with the likes of Clinton & Schumer for state senators, it's a wonder you're allowed to have anything at all.. -
Songs from that time.
Sgt. Steiner replied to White Phosphorus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Oops, answered my own question. Ingeb alwayd did have the "Bulge" movie version, but they have apparently recently added a period version. This one has 3 of the 5 total verses. Much better than the movie one where they sing the first verse over and over... -
Songs from that time.
Sgt. Steiner replied to White Phosphorus's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Ahh, glad you found it. Now, one song ingeb doesn't seem to have is the Panzerlied. I have the one taken from "Battle of the Bulge", but it is only one verse. Do you know if the full version can be found anywhere?
