  1. That's a good question. One would think the Waffen-SS should be considered part of the entire German armed forces, instead of always remaining separate and apart. Maybe one of the German members of this forum can give a definitive answer on this?
  2. Hmm, as far as I can tell, the main gun remains useable, even after the TC's death. Just played a QB where a Tiger's TC got whacked, and after the rest of the crew got over being shocked, they continued to fire the main gun. Worst thing about losing the TC is the tank can no longer un-button for the rest of the game, which makes no sense. Why should the rest of the crew be unable to open the hatches just because the TC is gone?
  3. Good catch. I forgot to write Waffen-SS. SS troops usually is referring to Waffen-SS though..
  4. "Landser" is a German nickname for their soldiers, similar to "frontovik" for the Russians, "GI" for Americans, etc. The term "Wehrmacht" means armed forces, and "Heer" is the German term for army. So when you see something written describing "Heer troops" they mean army troops. You will also see troops referred to as "Wehrmacht troops", as opposed to "SS troops" for example. This has always irked me, being as Wehrmacht means the entire armed forces, of which the SS were a part of. However, everyone has heard the term Wehrmacht, and very few English speaking folks other than wargamers and reenactors know what "Heer" means. So Wehrmacht has unfortunately come to mean army almost exclusively. Hope that clears up a few things.. [ November 23, 2002, 10:48 AM: Message edited by: Sgt. Steiner ]
  5. Just got CMBB and found this forum eh? Never to be seen again by family or friends.. muhahahaha!
  6. Brain in a nutrient tank, eh? Hey, just like Fallout Tactics!
  7. No, it's just the 10,000 or so people trying to d/l the patch all at once. Every time I try, I get "server busy"...
  8. Got it! Much better than those dreary wheat fields. Many thanks!
  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was always getting Coburn and Marvin's movies mixed up..
  10. Well, after 2 days of trying, I now have CMMOS 4 up and running (huzzah!) All the rule sets are where they're supposed to be, and..(wait for it) 3 CMMOS mods! Only umpteen dozen to go...
  11. Thanks for the info, everyone. I was afraid of that. Renaming all those bmp's will probably cause the "Attention Span Exceeded" light to come on; I think downloading again (sigh) will be the route taken. Although with my 56k modem, instead of overnight, it will be more like overweek(s)....
  12. OK, I've a question. I've already got a ton of non-CMMOS BB mods. Can they be made CMMOS-compatible simply by changing the file names, i.e. tacking on CMMOS somewhere? I sure hope so, as I'm really not looking forward to downloading those 8 zillion or so T-34 mods again for CMMOS compatibility... 13. WooHoo! Finally I was able to d/l CMMOS 4. Starting in on Der Schweinestall mods now. So, Le Tondu, it was all your fault; bogarting all the bandwidth for days now..
  14. You're probably one of those swine with broadband. I hate (read envy) you all! Hmm, maybe I'll try to d/l CMMOS yet again..
  15. Richard Harris is gone too? Wow, I had no idea. Sigh...
  16. You will be missed. Although, you will live on every time "Unt Molek" appears as one of the panzer commanders when a scenario is played..
  17. Yes, it would be nice if CMMOS and its mods could be hosted elsewhere (like the CM Mod Database). I've been trying to d/l from CMHQ for 2 days now, and nothing but "server busy"
  18. All the great old actors are fading away. My forum nick was in tribute to him two years ago, and now it is in memory of him...
  19. It is puzzling why Hitler did not at least use gas against the Russians, being as they never signed the Geneva convention. Every other conceivable barbarity was visited by each side upon the other there. Having developed sarin nerve gas, which gas masks of the time could not keep out, it would seem a natural, especially once Germany was on the ropes, with total destruction staring them in the face...
  20. Server busy.. server busy.. aarrgghh! Guess I'll try again tomorrow..
  21. CMBB is not a multi-player game. You can play against one other person, either by TCP/IP, e-mail, or hot-seat. And that's it. If you were hoping for some kind of massively multiplayer online game, CMBB isn't the one. Might I suggest WW2 Online, if that's what you're looking for..
  22. Well, that kind of sucks. Is the AI unable to target a human player's assault boats for some weird reason?
  23. Ah yes, nothing like the Sturmtiger to throw all my rarity theories out the window...
  24. God no, not sunflower grogs! But then we have bird grogs on this forum, so why not?
  25. Yes, those were the infamous mine birds. The Soviets trained pigeons to carry 1/4 stick of dynamite with a contact fuse. Unfortunately, the idea didn't work out too well in practice, as the pigeons kept flying back to their handlers' cages. Finally, a couple of the pigeons came back and landed on a couple of commissar's heads, at which point Stalin ordered all the birds (and the inventor of the idea) shot...
