The Tiger..Pointless to produce??
Sgt. Steiner replied to KG ThorsHammer's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
IMO, the Germans should have continued building the Tiger I. By late '44 they had worked the bugs out of it, and it could still more than hold its own against the Allied tanks, considering its 30 to 1 kill ratio. With the Tiger II, the Tiger teething problems returned all over again. Using the Tiger I engine in the much heavier Tiger II did not help matters any either. It seems to me the Germans would have been much better served with the Henschel factory continuing to pump out the proven Tiger I's.. -
Maybe this could grab all the movies from a battle? I know some folks have been wishing for that very thing..

The eye candy I'm still waiting for is turrets that get blown clean off the tank when it explodes. Then you'd know if it was KO'd or not.. [ December 15, 2002, 10:07 PM: Message edited by: Sgt. Steiner ]

Is CM MOD DATABASE Down ???
Sgt. Steiner replied to Stingray's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Nope, it's up and running. Just paid it a visit. There is a note on the site saying it was down for maintenance from 2000 to 2100.. -
You can free captured troops in an op!
Sgt. Steiner replied to xerxes's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Another reason the Russians shot so many of their own is that quite simply, it was against Red Army regulations to surrender. This was used as an excuse to execute or send to the gulags the hundreds of thousands of Russian POW's liberated at war's end. Along with the reasoning that the POW's had been exposed to harmful Western influence while in captivity. Didn't want that rubbing off on the rest of the Red Hordes.. -
Problem with changing Intro Music
Sgt. Steiner replied to Sgt. Steiner's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Found it. Thanks! Was pulling my hair out for a while. The wav I was trying to use was already in stereo, but was only 22khz instead of 44khz like the original intro wav file.. -
Problem with changing Intro Music
Sgt. Steiner replied to Sgt. Steiner's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Thanks for the info. I can't seem to find "Windows Sound Recorder" though. I'm running XP Pro. Is it in there somewhere, and if so, how do you get to it? -
I decided to change the intro music, but every other wav file I substitute for the original 00005010.wav file plays back at high speed once the game is started. If I put back the original intro music wav file, it plays just fine. The other wav files play just fine too, outside the game. Any ideas?

Good question. Bump..
-
Yeah, I like "Lilli Marleen" a lot too. Those loudly singing soldiers in "Rosemarie" seem a little more appropriate as intro music though..
-
I know what you mean, I would have to pass on "Die Fahne Hoch" for theme music as well. On the other hand, using something like "Erika", "Rosemarie" or "Lilli Marleen" I've absolutely no problem with. "Rosemarie" is an especially good one IMO..

Just got the video Panzers-Marsch!, and part of it is a training film for Panther crews. The tank commander is shown replacing damaged vision blocks in the commander's cupola, so it must indeed have been a very common occurrence. Awesome video BTW, in addition to the Panther training film, there is a second one for 251 half-tracks, and some great footage of Tigers at Kursk..
-
Could also be very well suited as an intro to whack-a-commie..

Time for a change from WWII, CM3 Cold War?
Sgt. Steiner replied to kipanderson's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Well, BFC have said a while back that the third game would be North Africa/Italy/Greece(?), and that the fourth game would be early western front, i.e. 1939/40. I would imagine anything more modern would have to be after that. I hope they at least do Italy & North Africa before leaving WW2 behind. France/Low Countries/Norway would be OK I suppose, but doesn't interest me nearly as much. Looking forward to Tobruk, El Alamein, Anzio, Monte Cassino, etc... -
If you attempted to download my splashscreen...
Sgt. Steiner replied to Sytass's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Sytass, I've had your splash screen for a while, as I think it's the best one so far, but have one small request. Could you fix it to where the correct version number is displayed after a patch? Thanks again for the great mod.. -
Interesting Quote from Panzer Aces
Sgt. Steiner replied to PvtTom's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yeah, everyone wants the heavies; Tigers, KT's, KV's, Stalin tanks. What they had to make do with in real life isn't as much fun.. -
Books on the Eastern Front
Sgt. Steiner replied to Richard Marchand's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Just got "In Deadly Combat: A German Soldier's Memoir of Combat on the Eastern Front" by Gottlob Bidermann. So far, it has some gripping first-person accounts of infantry action. Any comments on this one? -
Books on the Eastern Front
Sgt. Steiner replied to Richard Marchand's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I've noticed that none of Franz Kurowski's books have been mentioned. I recently read "Panzer Aces", and am currently reading "Infantry Aces". Both books seem to be very good accounts of infantry and tank combat. I was unaware of Carrell's background; is Kurowski similarly discredited? -

Ostfront Colors - Bicolor or Tricolor?
Sgt. Steiner replied to Bruno Weiss's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Ah, thanks for the info. I had read somewhere that the reason for going to dark yellow was because they had literally ran out of dark grey due to wartime shortages. Learn something new every day on this board.. -
Ostfront Colors - Bicolor or Tricolor?
Sgt. Steiner replied to Bruno Weiss's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
OK, I've a question. Did the Germans really run out of dunkelgrau in '43, or just decide to go with dunkelgelb for some other reason? -
You can find them at CMHQ. They're in the CMBB CMMOS section.. btw, more panzer grey goodness, hoopenfaust!
