  1. I wish you all the luck in the world and perfectly understand how it could appear a little daunting.Pecking away is just fine.
  2. Between you and sdp you're bringing the Italian theatre to life.Very much looking forward to this.
  3. As an aside my Uncle was a driver in the army. Apparently once they started moving they didn't stop until they got to their destination,MPs would go ahead creating a path for them. They would go through redlights, stop signs and intersections as if they weren't there. If for whatever reason you had to stop you would just turn off the road.Part of the test to get his drivers rating was getting the vehicle off the road quickly. If the vehicle at the front of the column had to stop for just a few seconds it could bring the column to a grinding halt as it impacted exponentially along the column. The truck at the back could be waiting half an hour or more depending on the length of the column. I should point out I was quite young when this information was relayed to me and it was done briefly. It makes sense when you think about it though.
  4. I dunno how do-able that is,but if so it would certainly get my vote
  5. It's a bit like going from a cessna 172 to a T-38 Talon. It's got all those extra buttons and stuff 'cause it can do a whole lot more.
  6. OMG sdp this is incredible, impressive, stunning, spectacular.I'm not sure there are enough adjectives to describe what you've done. Suddenly I'm in Italy. Many many thanks. I've made a seperate z folder and put it in a folder called sdp's extravaganza. Then i can just swop z folders out to suit.
  7. Honestly I don't get the UI is to difficult argument. I played CMBO/BB/AK almost daily for over a decade, downloaded the CMBN demo when it came out(never played CMSF),purchased the game day of it's release(was fortunate enough to get one of the tin boxes, made my day that did)and have adjusted to the UI no problems.Once I realised it wasn't CMx1 I was away. I've now played through every scenario and have started on the campaigns with one PBEM done and another under way. I lost the PBEM and a few of the scenarios, scratched some wins and got a few comfortably.Have found I need to be scrupulously thorough and to keep moving but not rush it.With all these things working against each other,it's kinda like juggling. Doing this in the real world would be seriously intense. The stress would be immense. Hell I don't even notice the UI anymore.
  8. That's a nice little tip and all this time I've been splitting teams and doubling and tripling my waypoints.
  9. Indeed I too am going to have to secound that.
  10. WOW! Very impressive. Like the Hermann Goering boys.
  11. Had to be with that original CMBO demo. It was like someone had read my mind. Computer upgrades are now totally entwined with Combat mission releases. There are other reasons of course,it's just I can never remember what they are.
  12. I was always lead to believe that that's where the whole ANZAC thing began
  13. In the ANZAC spirit I concur, you stand there and die like a man.
  14. Firepower superiority. 1)Scouts to locate enemy(they often die in the process) 2)Smoke to blind enemy while you line your boys up in relative safety(squads, mortars, tanks whatever you can lay your hands) 3)Keep them hidden until smoke clears then blast the hell out of them,I mean really lay into them. You should start to see them as they fall back or start to panic at which point. 4)Send an element forward onto the position(I will generally use about a third of my force)leading with infantry always, tanks provide support(Shermans are very hard to beat in this respect) 5)Once it all looks good move the rest of your force up. Go back to number 1 and repeat. This works well in bocage as you generally can't see to far. On more open maps the same basic plan applies although artillery starts to come into it's own here as they become the firepower(along with your MGs) or support base if you like. The tricky part is although this seems to be the same thing all the time,no two situations are the same and you will have to improvise around this basic "theme". Sometimes you might need more scouts,or less firepower(although more is always best). You may have to move faster as enemy spotting rounds lick at your heels. Trying to find the correct balance for each situation(it doesn't have to be exact near enough will do)is what's all about. Well this is what I do,it usually works although not always. Good luck and keep your head down.
  15. My steelbox made it all the way to the ends of the earth without even a scratch on it and i assume the manuals size and lack of colour is an endeavour to capture the spirit of the time, well that's just what struck me
  16. I've come straight from CMx1 and although the interface threw me at first I'm now quite settled into the CMBN way of doing things. After a few days i thought it's a better game with a clumsier interface, after a week or so, well it's light years ahead of CMx1,there really is no comparison. The only thing i wouldn't mind being able to do is adjust waypoints and click on path lines to access units. The flexibility in issuing commands, maintaining contact with HQs,designating or more importantly adjusting to opportune targets, coordinating units and artillery fire, maintaining ammo, moving large groups of vehicles is just awesome,I feel like a surgeon wielding a scalpel now as opposed to a blacksmith in CMx1 hammering things into place. I am in awe at what BF have done. Chris
  17. I haven't missed the data tables and % hit chance from CMx1 consequently I can only conclude that they're unnecassary. In fact I'd forgotten all about them untill i read this post. A basic rule of thumb Panther kills well everything Panzer IV kills Sherman Sherman Kills Panzer IV Tiger kills everything Nothing Kills Tiger and Panther at least front on,side on you have a good to reasonable chance. Have a go and see what happens, just like they did way back then. I'm pretty sure that's the feel they're going for,it definitely works for me. It's not that complicated.
  18. I get the same thing when going to the editor after playing a scenario. Quite game and restart and all is fine.
