They had to much of the stashed wine in the French village I suppose.
  2. Yikes! Just saw Manx's original thread regarding server brandwith problems/financial predicament popping up. He'll need a bigger drop from me. I'll increase my offer from US$10.00 to US$50.00 Calculator Clubfoot/Rex... Sincerely, Charl Theron ---------------------------- "Today, praise be to God, wine was pressed for the first time from Cape grapes!" [Seven years after the Cape Colony was founded in South Africa] -- Jan van Riebeeck in his diary, summer of 1659
  3. I guess a wine donation is not going to last long Manx. And as some Italian noted before, your website is easily the "sexiest CM:BO site to be found on the net!" Uhm, you get the picture! My pledge: $10.00 - Please accept Manx.(BTW, it's USD, not Zimbabwean!) Clubfoot, be so kind to do the math... Sincerely, Charl Theron ------------------ What is man, when you come to think upon him, but a minutely set, ingenious machine for turning with infinite artfulness, the red wine of Shiraz into urine? -- Isak Dineson "Seven Gothic Tales" (1934)
  4. Clubfoot, Your intended diligence regarding the CMMOS Tiger Pack appreciated, likewise Pascal's StuG/H workpiece. A kind request: Please break these d/l up in sizeable chunks for downloading. Sincerely, Charl Theron ------------------- I'm like old wine. They don't bring me out very often, but I'm well preserved. -- Rose Kennedy (1890-1995) on her 100th birthday
  5. Kingfish, Did you reckon that by putting your croc's trailer in front of the your advancing tank (in our PBEM) might have bamboozled my gunners? Regards, Charl Theron ---------------------------- "Sorry my fine public servants, but I haven't enough of this nectar to pass about willy-nilly." [Comment to policemen who'd pulled him over on suspicion of drunk driving] -- Attributed to actor W. C. Fields
  6. Point taken. Thanks for the time taken to answer this Gordon. Regards, Charl Theron
  7. Next question: When will it be released? I see that bfamily33 also have done some excellent work of late on the big cat. Any chance of including that? Sincerely, Charl Theron ---------------------------- Upon the first goblet he read this inscription, lion wine; upon the second, monkey wine; upon the third, sheep wine; upon the fourth, swine wine. These four inscriptions expressed the four descending degrees of drunkenness: the first, that which enlivens; the second, that which irritates; the third, that which stupefies; finally the last, that which brutalizes. -- Victor Hugo (1802 - 1885), "Les Misérables"
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Cubbies Phan: Huh? You can't tell which icon you have depressed and which option is selected? Besides, Gordon did the programming for CMMOS not Marco.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> What I mean is that with all the options under, say Fernando's Tri-colour tab, that you can have a checkmark placed next to that option line. The panzer4 Tab has something like 16 options. Now lets see, uhh...uhmm.. did I select 3 weeks ago the option with sideskirts with turret numbers with Balkenkrauz or was it without sideskirts without turret numbers but with the damn balkenkrauz? Catch my thrift? Kindly then re-directed to Gordon, the programmer. Sincerely, Charl Theron ------------------- A man cannot make him laugh - but that's no marvel; he drinks no wine. -- Shakespeare, "Henry IV" Part 2
  9. Marco, Speaking about options. How about programming CMMOS so that we can see waht current option is selected, either via a tick mark next to that option line or something else? Sincerely, Charl Theron ------------- Where there is no wine, love perishes, and everything else that is pleasant to man. -- Euripides, Greek playwright (484-407 B.C.)
  10. Clubfoot + Manx, Do you know where I can downloaad Fernando's 250/251 CMMOS-enabled mods EXCEPT Pascal's French website? I have tried several times to d/l stuff from Pascal's Frensh servers, but all files download to 99% and then .... that's it! No finishing of the last damn 1% of the file. (First time that this has happened to me.) Sincerey, Charl Theron ------------------------ Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance. -- Benjamin Franklin
  11. Treeburst, So Panzerleader is out. Any word from CDIC yet?
  12. Thanks Pascal. But again I cannot downloading the RuleSet901 from your website (as with any other mods) as the French server freezes up when the file is d/l 99%. That 1% never seems to finish up. Frustrating. (I'm using IE5.1 with Windows95) Care to e-mail me RuleSet901 to WineCape@global.co.za]WineCape@global.co.za ? Thanking you in advance, Charl Theron ---------------------------------- "When men drink, then they are rich and successful and win lawsuits and are happy and help their friends. 13. Good work forwardrecon! Will bookmark this as a reference to send my future newbie PBEM opponents to. Eagerly awaiting the completion of the German/Canadian forces. 14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by James Crowley: I think this thread, and others like it, of which there are many, indicate that there is a very positive requirement for a much more explicit manual for CMBB than was provided with CMBO. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Aye, I second this and have mentioned this more than a year ago. Well put James Crowley. Been playing this beautiful game for quite some time now and certain game "mechanics/concepts" still allude me, mostly because I've forgotten what have been written/explained here on the Forum regarding these particular subjects (p-faust effective killing ranges, re-targeting of artillery springs to mind here ) I don't mind paying $5.00 - $10.00 more for this game so that these extra information are inluded in the CM:BB manual. Heck, the SA Rand vs. US$ exchange rate is going for the dogs anyway here in South Africa, and we have nothing to do with Zimbabwe's mess! A few bucks extra is not going to make matters worse in the grand scheme of things! Kind regards, b]Charl Theron ------------------ "This wine is too good for toast-drinking, my dear. You don’t want to mix emotions up with a wine like that. You lose the taste." -- Ernest Hemingway to Count Mippipopolous in "The Sun Also Rises" (1926)
  15. I believe the sayings in India could be a little bizarre and even suspect, no doubt. Charl Theron ------------------ If you compare ours with the best of French, South African, Spanish, Italian, Californian and even Chilean wines, we are definitely not there. But if you compare it to the worst of these wines, we are definitely better. -- Anonymous vintner near Bangalore, India, 1994
  16. Allow me one quote here among some interesting notes by Germanboy, Slapdragon, Michael, Rune as well as Dale (I like you analogy sir!) and whomever has brought some interesting notes/evidence, but not necessarily proof regarding the Bren Gun Tripod and its usage. ahem... <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Think of an existence in which you don't do anything to earn somebody's acceptance. All of a sudden, all the pressure is off. No more pretence, no more games, no more trying to win somebody's affection. Just be what you are. That's wine for you! -- Frank Bianco, "Voices of Silence: Life Among the Trappists" (1992)<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Otherwise, those that have done the effort to bring some evidence to their discussion here, i thank you. I find this thread to be very informative regarding the Bren Gun, though the reasoning based upon these evidence "could be a little suspect" in some cases. Regards, Charl Theron
  17. .RTF format is fine for me Juha, which can be read by most applications. I have the ability to also view AAR's in MSWord97 format or as .html format as done by Peter Svensson. Regards, Charl Theron --------------------- Try to tell people that [wine is] really a simple business, something to enjoy and forget about, like television. They smile knowingly and shake their heads. They know that wine is a complicated, mysterious business, best understood either by intense people in white coats with clipboards or by soigne people in black ties who look like Sir John Gielgud. -- Frank Prial, NY Times September 4, 1985
  18. My gratitude to the participants that have send in their very entertaining AAR's (some even with map snapshots + annotations!). It sure is a pleasure to read them. I( kindly thank you for your effort. Best of luck/roll of the dice to all in forthcoming battles, Charl Theron ------------------- Wine Connoisseur, Noun. "Pauillac, 1873." he murmured … and died. --- Ambrose Bierce, "The Devil’s Dictionary" (1911)
  19. Very interesting study, Ben. These combat bonusses are only cryptically noted in the CMBO handbook. Apart from a general "it-must-be-good-to-have-HQ-units-with +2 bonusses" feeling, nobody has really sat down and tried to work out some sort of %'s (a very rough estimate will do IMO!) I would also like to see the particular effects of the zap (combat) bonus on AT-guns in particular. Keep 'em case studies rolling. Kind regards and thanks for the Chateaux maps! Regards, Charl Theron ----------------- "During one of my treks through Afghanistan, we lost our corkscrew. We were compelled to live on food and water for several days." -- Cuthbert J. Twillie (W.C.Fields) in "My Little Chickadee" (1940)
  20. Thanks for the input CombinedArms. "Zap + Heart" it will be for my AT-gunners!
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by M Hofbauer: this gem almost got lost amongst the firefight.[... referring to combat modifiers for TC's as mentioned by Bad Monkey!...] I really really like that idea. It would make tanks less generic, yet still variation would be limited to a certain envelope, just like you can expect a certain minimum performance from a HQ unit even without modifiers. I think you really hiot onto a very good idea here. And it seems to me it should be possible to include this with a fair, feasible amount of effort (it worked for the HQ units).<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The more I read this excellent thread, the brighter this idea! Seems also little trouble of coding this in instead of a complete engine re-write regarding the formulas used for hit%, no? Regards, Charl Theron ----------------- "Sparkling Muscatel. 22. ... and I thought wine were a simple business... tsk, tsk ---------------- WINE, noun: Fermented grape-juice known to the Women's Christian Union as "liquor," sometimes as "rum." --> Wine, Madam, is God's next best gift to man. -- Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914), "The Devil's Dictionary" (1911)
  23. Just an important note Pascal regarding your d/l server in France. Tried again to d/l the smaller chunks and the same thing happened as with the larger 33,11MB chunk earlier. The server d/l OK on my IE5.1 browser until the last ,01KB when the server just froze and refuses to finish downloading the file. This is the 1st time it happened to me. (I tried downloading the other small file chunks - same problem.) Regards, Charl theron
