  2. Fionn, I like your summary note on SOP on exceptions. A "meeting of minds" with these pre-match negotiations, especially with regard to tournament play, should be encouraged as all these guidelines are underpinned by the striving for fairness in tourney play. Your efforts in this regard to be commended! I refuse to refer to your notes postulated as "Rules", but merely guidelines, as you indicated. 3. Stixx, Thank you for your willingness to PBEM test the scenario before I release it. You've been jotted down in my adress book and I'll e-mail you as soon as I'm ready. Might be within the next week. Just have to write the briefings properly. Cheers, WineCape
  4. CDIC, I'll be finished within the next 2/3 weeks and I need PBEM opponents to test this scenario; Allied attack, a curving river moving through a deep valley with 2 bridges with 2 small towns to be taken from the Axis, one low next to the river and one high on top of a plateau. I'll let you know when I'm finished. Thanks again.
  5. Or a link to the wine! Looking clean and uncluttered. Kingfish, my turn to you out this week. Promise. Schedule has been hectic with me more out of office then in. With B/T members being all scenario testers, do any one of you care to test one of my scenario's within the next month or so and rate/deflate my enthusiasm for this? I wish B/T continued success. 6. Welcome aboard sir, Please waive your girlfriend, or wife, or dog or cat or fish or whatever you use to cuddle at night to keep warm goodbye! Kind regards, Charl Theron -------------------History Note---------------- On 22 December 1944 General Heinrich von Lüttwitz, commander of the German XLVII Armored Corps, sent a message to General McAuliffe, commander of 101st Airborne Division* demanding he surrender the town of Bastogne. McAuliffe’s reply, “NUTS!” is probably unequalled in the annals of military history, both for its brevity and the amount of confusion it caused in the German camp before it was deciphered. *The 101st Airborne Division held out in Bastogne from 19-26 December 1944. The 4th American Armored Division, under Patton’s Third Army, relieved the “Battered Bastards of Bastogne” during the German Ardennes offensive. 7. I see things are coming nicely along here Treeburst. Can we have a list of those in Tourney 1/2 of the RoW II? 8. I always thought that MD were high on petrol(eum) when he posts - so bloody industrious. Knew it! Knew it!!
  9. It still AMAZES me that BTS takes the time to answer - and indulges - this lot of us on this board to such an extent as done here in this thread. May the gods bless CMBB to be a roaring success. They deserve this. Kind regards, Charl Theron
  10. Zipper, Contact Harri Pesonen (Fuerte) at fuerte@sci.fi with your problem.
  11. May I add my personal favourite, PBEM HELPER by Fuerte? Regards, Charl Theron PS: Just remember to disable CMBO's intro movie for the automatic password entering to work! [ May 04, 2002, 11:14 AM: Message edited by: WineCape ]
  12. Small correction here gentlemen. Some states in the USA, see specifically www.wineinstitute.org - click on "WINELAW" and then "DIRECT WINE SHIPMENTS" - as well as Scandinavian countries (Sweden and Norway in particular) are very difficult in sending wines door-to-door, i.e. doorstep. These goverments like to keep tabs on who drinks wine and therefor hate it when people order wines directly, thereby circumventing customs. Therefor, I'll post the wines. This means a slow transit time of 12 weeks - with wine this is of no consequence - to the closest Post Office of the address of the winner. I'll mark the 6-bottle wine box as a "GIFT" and write my personal details on the box. Even so, you might still, depending whether the postmaster had his morning coffee or not, be liable for import duties. The USA import duties are neglible - a few USA cents per wine litre. Uber-Finns might pay more import duties for their uberness when they receive the vino though ... 13. The champ is here...the champ is here...the CHAMP is here... ************************************************* The winner of Wild Bill Wilder's Rumblings Of War Tourney I, and winner of twelve different bottles of fine South African wine is LEONARD DICKENS!!! ************************************************* Wreck, it was a long road. My congrats on winning the to date most succesfull tourney that Treeburst and I have rolled out here on the bulletin board!! Wild Bill and his playtesters gave us some excellent scenario's through sheer hard work and doggedness to get the scenario's done for the tourney. Wild Bill, please name here all of those involved in your team that created the scenario's/playtested them. My gratitude gentlemen! Without your semi-historical terror there would've been no withdrawal signs for the participants To Treeburst155 (Mike Meinecke), My friend, without your patience, diligence (and hard skin due to the Invitational ) no tourney would take place, fullstop. A million thanks. Mrs. Treeburst might push some divorce papers in front of your noise if you're not careful. Congratulations again Leonard. Please e-mail me at WineCape@global.co.za for your home address details so that I can send of your 12-bottle prize. Any preference on grape cultivars? 14. Yes, RoW III will now be the CMBB tourney instead once the game is released. And yes, 2 prizes of 6 bottles South African wine will go to each of the 2 group winners, postage/freight on me too. 15. Ahh, just been forwarded this SA wine article (in New York Times) by Frank Prial, one of the foremost American wine critics. Allow me some indulgence/promotion here. I met Mr. Frank Prial the first time 2 weeks ago at the International Cape Wine 2002 "Rolling out the Reds" seminar at Nederburg and asked his opinion about SA wine. It was his 3rd visit to South Africa, so he was in a perfect position to see from outside SA wine circles improvement (if any) in our wines. Naturally, I'll give the RoW II winners a choice if they want wines from his mentioned selection below. OK, that was the wine promotion. Just received an e-mail from Kiwi Joe that he received his wine prize - had to share it here. (Remember, Kiwi Joe wanted to pour all 6 bottles into a bowl and serve it to his girlfriend) Sincerely, Charl Theron -------------- You can't be a wine snob. You have to keep your mind open. You have no idea where the next great wine you drink will come from! -- Francis Ford Coppola, American film director
  16. Treeburst, There seems to be enough interest here to fire up RoW II as a CMBO tourney instead! We'll shift RoW III to being the CMBB tourney whenever the game rolls of BTS' assembly line. Regards, Charl Theron -------------- Some of these vintages won't be ready to drink for a long time. If we wait much longer, our kids will be toasting us over our graves! Let's drink up what we have, and let them buy their own. -- Burgess Meredith, American actor (1909 - 1997) to film director John Huston (1906 - 1987)
  17. And are we close enough to the end of Rumblings of War I to pop any corks? Regards, Charl Theron -------------------- The picnic was delicious, the wine was excellent, remind me to send the Cardinal a note. -- Porthos in "The Three Musketeers" (1993)
  18. That’s fine by me Mike. I can split the Rumblings of War II tourney prize to 6 bottles each and send it to the winner of each 24-player section. Including a “fun” scenario (i.e. one that is deliberately unbalanced) seems to be a good idea Mike, more so because you use the Nabla Scoring System which does not need balanced scenario’s to score participants results. I don’t think that SuperTed’s Boots and Tracks team will object here – it’s less testing work for them Sincerely, Charl Theron --------------------------- I don't care for war, there's far too much luck in it for my liking. -- Napoleon III (1808 - 1873), French emperor. 19. * Bolding mine EXACTLY! Well put. This to me is the most elegant, workable solution for a 1-man programmer like Charles. Maybe work with MORE varying levels of ID'ing for units within LOS/out of LOS, distance and experience as currently in the game. Great discussion. Sincerely, Charl Theron
  20. And of course, it stands to reason that I will help out with the triple blind e-mail load once we know your file naming convention and player numbers Mike. Thanks for volunteering CDIC. Much obliged! Sincerely Charl Theron
  21. Very interesting. I like it. Shall we call this triple blind play? a) Not knowing beforehand which side (Axis/Allies) you will be the generalissimo; Playing a utterly new B & T quality scenario with a select set of semi/historical forces chosen for you to battle it out; c) You don't know your OPPONENT(S) and all results are blacked out in your section until the latter group matches are finished. Seems a good idea, apart from the fact that you will have to sign on Larry Ellison to install a mail server to handle that kind of MB of traffic, Treeburst. What do the participants-to-be think of this idea if Mike could handle the e-mail load? Sincerely, Charl Theron ---------------- The $100 bottle of California cabernet sauvignon, while hardly commonplace, is no longer the exotic rarity it was a few years ago. … Alas, for the buyer with a budget, the rising tide lifts all boats.
