1. BTW, I have DirectX 8.0 (4.08.00.0400) and my Windows98 SE is 4.10, build 2222. Any help will be appreciated.
 2. Hello there, I have a Gigabyte GV-GF1280 (Geforce2 MX400) with 64MB video Ram, running in Windows 98SE. The card works all OK @ 1024x768 resolutions, but there is an constant shimmering of the trees when the movie plays/replays. According the NVmax utility I have "detonator compatible driver version 7.76." This shimmering gets very disconcerting after a while, with the grass also "coming alive" if CMBO are played after a while. Any help? Should I upgrade my Detonator drivers, even though all my other programs/games works fine with this Graphics card. 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Treeburst155: WineCape, Fuerte and I still want to know if a "red blend" is the same thing as "rose". Treeburst155 out.

Sorry for the very late reply gentlemen. Been hectic here in South Africa with soccer season in full swing as well as the wine business. No, a red blend is not the same as a Rose. I probably should have said "Bordeaux blend" to be exact, as the wine in question, the Vergelegen 1998, consist of 3 of the main varieties used in the top wines of that region in France. See the link in the previous page about the components of the Vergelegen 1998. There is a debate to distinguish a Bordeaux Blend from a "Cape Blend" here in South African wine circles, the latter blend should supposedly havePinotage as the wine cultivar or as least an anchoring component of the final blend. Pinotage will then usually be blended with a particular estate's Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon or some other red variety. In South Africa, most estates/wineries keep their best vineyard blocks and grapes for a particular Red Blend, which will then usually sell as the flagship wine of these estates. After all, these blends show the TRUE winemaking skills of a winemaker, where he has to "marry" different cultivars to produce a wine of hopefully good complexity. Cultivars that are mainly used for these flagship wines blends are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot (pronounced Petty Werdou) and Shiraz. Kind regards, Charl Theron ------------------ Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing. -- Ernest Hemingway in "Death in the Afternoon"

 5. Hopefully Rune, Participants can compete in some footie afterwards! Just supply photo's as proof that this is not a pub crawl instead! Charl Theron -------------- Some of these vintages won't be ready to drink for a long time. If we wait much longer, our kids will be toasting us over our graves! 6. Gentleman, STOP PRESS: It has come to my attention that one of the wines that I'm putting up for the winner here has just won the BEST RED BLEND Trophy in the World, the Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtessa de Lalande prize at the London International Wine & Spirit Competition, one of the 2 biggest wine competitions in the World! This wine is the Vergelegen 1998. Did I say at http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=019427 that this is one mean winemaker? A read-up on the estate can also be found at the above link. Enjoy your battles! Charl Theron ------------- A bottle of good wine, like a good act, shines ever in the retrospect. -- Robert L. Stevenson, Scottish writer (1850 - 1894)
 7. Started the Britannica reference work (better known as the Wine-Features Megathread) accompanied with a wine bet for Charles/Steve. Alas, server crashed before the wine wager could be fulfilled. BTS' "Official Reply" to the above thread (read: customer care) convinced me that BTS' ideals are no fly-by-night venture. Was so impressed I send them Pinotage. Steve replies via e-mail that he thinks Charles (and his wife) are wine snobs, as they do not clean their car parts with Paul Masson wine. That's all. ------------------ Never drink bad wine out of compliment; self-preservation is the first law. -- Charles Tovey "Wit, Wisdom and Morals Distilled from Bacchus (1878)
 8. Congrats Fangorn for winning WineCape II! Please e-mail me your full address details so that I can despatch the vino. Thanks to all participants as well as the ever patient #155 for his outstanding tourney management skills. Much appreciated Mike. This thread is at rest now! Best wishes and good luck to all in their future CM battles. 9. Put me on the list for a Rumble III applicant if there is going to be one in the future. Would love to participate. Seems you lads had lots of fun as can be gathered from scanning Dorosh's webpages for the Rumble II as well as the the radio message boards. 10. Charles, Steve, Matt, Dan and all those gentleman in the development of CM:BB, Thank you for the "customer care" info and game development update! Your dedication to:- a) developing CM:BB while listening to CM:BO players improvement/suggestions here on the Forum; making sure the product is properly coded/finished thus c) avoiding major glitches by not rushing the game out ASAP; d) BTS' willingness to involve themselves in Forum discussions regarding their product; e) the dedication of Battlefront.com to provide us with an excellent discussion board; f) the sheer love of attention to detail that BTS puts into the CM series are not going unnoticed by your customer base. Thank you for converting, via your product, a not-a-hardcore-wargamer to … just a wargamer. For me, supporting your product is more than paying X amount of dollars and get so much fun in return, but rather I see myself as a custodian, via my very small financial contribution, to keeping small companies like Big Time Software UP THERE WHERE THEY BELONG! In short, I don't merely support your continued effort, rather I feel privileged to be counted as one of your supporters. Big Time Software indeed. I wish BTS a (deservedly) continued financial success. Charl Theron ----------------- Other countries drink to get drunk, and this is accepted by everyone; in France, drunkenness is a consequence, never an intention. 11. Gentleman, The wine is packed and ready to be freighted out! Everybody's happy! ...except Winecape who's head just blew up!

Jarmo, If you win this tourney, I'll send 6 bottles containing some of the wines as noted below in the quote. Cheers! Charl --------------- "Amarone" is a dark, deep garnet wine, with odours of nuts and spice and dense fruit jam flavours that call to mind dried figs and cherry preserve. The Nordic countries are more than a bit anal when it comes to these things. Especially when there is alcohol involved. IIRC the Finnish customs are not very flexible when it comes to taxation of goods if the shipment is labeled the wrong way. I heard some guy had to pay heavy taxes on a woollen sweater he received by post from Norway, only because there was some technicality issue in the labeling of the shipment.

Valid concerns tero. Especially with Scandinavian/Nordic countries. Postage to these counties could be a problem. Scanning my courier airfreight rates instead -- from TNT International -- I can circumvent any possible postage problems by sending the wine rather via a "EUROWINE" service. This is a door-to-door courier service, transit times 12-18 days. The beauty about this EUROWINE service is the wine freight includes all taxes/duties/VAT payable/charged by the destination countries' customs. See below regarding which Nordic countries allow the EUROWINE service… EUROWINE will cost me 150% more in freight charges than sending the wine via snail postage, a charge I'm willing to carry though, given the Nordic countries possible "retentive" attitude to any product containing alcohol (after all, wine is only for grown-ups! ) Finland and Denmark allows the EUROWINE service, Norway allows it partially -- excluding duties though, which means that the receiver is still liable for duties/excise/taxes when he receives the goods -- and Sweden flatly refuses the all-duties-pre-paid option to their wine drinkers. But Sweden does allow the sending of 6 bottles to the closest customs airport, duties-still-to-be-paid option. The question is, how far are the Swedish players from the custom airports (that TNT International fly to) to pick up their spoils of war? Arlanda (ARN) Gothenburg (GOT) and Malmo (MMA) A solution (if Swedish players live in the far reaches of their countries' fjords, nooks and crannies) is to simply post the package, mark it as a " XMAS gift" and send it off with a note that "this package has fallen of Father Christmas sleigh" -- not that the wine will get there before the fesative season anyway, as transit times will be 10-12 weeks! So, as can be gathered by the above, I'm all for UberFinns winning this bloody Nordic Tourney. Go Fins go! 21. KiwiJoe, South Africa's postal service has been resumed to far off NZ (due to WTC scare and subsequent developments). Your wines will be re-posted this week after the PO here in Stellenbosch informed me (I have posted the goodies almost a month ago) that "Hey, we've got this box here that seems full of liquid when shaken. Should we re-post it?" A subsequent trip to our PO have confirmed that your winning nectar is still all OK and in good order when I opened the box -- they have cool storage btw.
