3. I'd like to give it a try. dkr2@home.com Thanks. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
4. I say 25 posts before this is locked up. Any bets? ------------------ Ow, my leg!
5. Loki, you can also send a e-mail to BTS requesting the status of your order. I did the same because I was as impatient as you are and they responded very quickly. Also, I would be happy to have a PBEM with you, although I haven't tried it yet. You may want to take some time to learn the intricacies of the game though, unless you have been playing the demo. An M60A1 is a bit different that a Sherman or a Panzer IV. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
6. Welcome to club. If you sent your money order on the 19th, a Saturday, it probably didn't reach BTS until the 23rd, depending on where you live. I don't know if they process orders the same day they receive payment, but assume it was shipped the next day on the 24th. I also don't know if orders received by mail are processed as quickly as on-line credit card orders. They ship by priority mail, which usually takes three days, so you should have received it by the 28th. It's only a couple of days past that, so I would give it a couple more days. I bet you have it by Friday. It is also possible that BTS is out of stock again, but they usually tell us. However, it is possible that they are out of hamsters.
7.
quote:
Originally posted by Zamo: Play with your units... Zamo

Now was that really necessary? I would like to see each squad graphically represented by the number of men it contains, but I think hardware limitations is the best reason not to. There is nothing wrong with eye-candy. We might as well go back to text based games or X's and O's if visually appealing graphics are uninportant. I also don't think screen clutter is really a problem. I was playing a D-Day scenario with 3 US companys on the beach and I thought the beach looked oddly empty. I have enough trouble locating some of my infantry units with the sizes turned up. It is nearly impossible to see them at the realistic level unless I am on view level 1 and close to the units. One other reason, however, not to have a squad of 10 men represented by 10 figures is that is highly unlikely that you would see 10 men bunched together on the battlefield. They would most likely spread out rather than huddled together. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
8. You don't have to rename anything for the uniform mods. Just download the zip file, unzip it and paste the contents into the bmp file - make sure you replace the existing bmp files when prompted to do so. The face mods work the same, but there are several face bmps for each game bmp. After you place the new faces in the bmp folder look for the files with dashes and numbers after them. These are alternates to the same bmp file without the dashes and numbers, e.g. 1124 (original) 1124-1 (first optional face) 1124-2 (second optional face) Then decide which face you want to represent that unit type in the game and rename it so it replaces the original file (take away the dash and number) As far as the patch, just try it again and give it a few moments. Then click on the file you download and follow the read.me instructions. ------------------ Ow, my leg! [This message has been edited by Pvt. Ryan (edited 08-29-2000).]
9. Yea, I found this thread yesterday, but I thought it would be better to let sleeping hampsters lie. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
10. One possibility is that the Chupacabra got them. Originally posted by Michael emrys: I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the crop circles or cattle abductions in the game yet. There are no cattle in this game. It totally destroys the realism in the Normandy scenarios. Just think of all the cow mods we could have. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
11. Do you take requests? I would like to see the thread where all the wildlife references began. I guess I could do a search for hamsters. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
12. I read somewhere that a hamster chewed up the wiring in Battlefront's server which has caused many of the old threads to be resurrected. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
13. I noticed the same thing today. I was playing an operation and there were casualties shown even though no shots were fired. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
14. Download the patch into a temporary folder. I created a folder called "patches" in the cmbo directory because there are so many patches (thank you BTS). Then double click the icon and you will be given the opportunity to chose where the patch will be "unpacked" - as it isn't a zip file. I chose to have it place the patch file in the same temporary folder. After chosing the cmbo/patches folder as the destination for the patch files, click continue. You will then see a folder with the 1.05 patch. Then open the folder and read the read.me file for further instructions. If you have never upgraded since 1.01, then copy the bmp files to the bmp folder and the wav file to the wav folder. Then replace the old exe file with the new one (the one with the tank icon). This is very important - if you don't do this you will not be running 1.05. BTW: You called it a PBEM patch. PBEM stands for Play By E-Mail, wich is how you play against human opponents until BTS finishes the TCP/IP upgrade. PBEM has nothing to do with the patch, although with previous patches both players had to be running the same version of CM. ------------------ Ow, my leg! [This message has been edited by Pvt. 15. CG, it was tech support. They asked me to disconnect the fan and restart to verify that the noise was from the fan, which it was. Then the support guy gave me the information I already gave you. He did not try to deny there was a problem. He was very helpful. Do you know how to get the upgrade to Windows ME? I can't find the free upgrade coupon in the box or on the system. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
16. CrapGame, I just called Dell and they said new fans will be ready to ship in early September. They send a tech support guy to install it. Call them up and let them know you want a new fan and they will call you when the fans are available to set up an appointment. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
17. Bill, thanks for the info. I was going to send mine back to if Dell couldn't fix the fan noise. I will call them as soon as I get back home (typing on my mom's laptop). I am in serious CM withdrawel. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
18. I am networking the two temporarily just to transfer the larger files from my old computer to the new. Then my mom gets my old computer. Yes, the DVD just runs automatically. But I configured it so that it starts up in full screen mode. With this monitor it is basically like watching TV. I played CM with the various weather effects last night. The fog is amazing. I didn't get any fog effects on my old computer. Off to the airport now. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
19. I got my system today. I had it up and running in 5 minutes, but I couldn't configure my cable modem. I spent 3 hours on hold waiting for tech support and it turns out I made a stupid installation mistake. I installed CM immediately, but it isn't quite the same without the mods (which I couldn't get until my modem was working). So now I am downloading all the mods and the patch. I kept thinking one thing while carrying the massive 19" monitor into the house: Why didn't I get a laptop? (Then I remembered it was because I bought this computer for the sole purpose of enjoying CM.) You said that your hard drive made some noise. I don't hear the HD, but my fan is noisy as hell. Is that what you meant? It is really distracting. I am going to call Dell as soon as I get back next week. It may be a long time before I figure out how to burn a CD. After getting CM squared away I am going to network my two computers together and transfer all the stuff I want to the new one. Then I'll play CM for a long time. Then maybe I'll check out the other features on this thing. (I did watch A Bridge Too Far on the DVD while waiting for tech support.) Man, I am rambling, but I am so thrilled with this thing. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
20. What I hate about tank guns is that they break so easily. It seems like the guns on my Stugs break just at the sound of a .50 cal. That leaves me with an expensive battlefield taxi if the commander is dead. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
21. I haven't had time to read the entire thread so I don't know if this has been posted, but here is some more info on the rescue effort: http://www.ragingbull.altavista.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=GBLX&read=13822 ------------------ Ow, my leg!
22. skullstacker6, you can use command units as spotters for on board mortars. You need to make sure the mortar is within the command radius of the HQ. As long as the HQ unit has LOS to the target, the mortar will be capable of direct fire. I like to place the HQ unit on the second story of a building and have him hide. Then I place my mortars behind the building or some other cover. I managed to knock out a few Stuarts in one scenario. I hope this helps. This topic is also covered in the manual. Thanks for protecting our country. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
23. You know you played too much CM when... ... an earthquake shakes your home and you are thankful that at least it wasn't a 150mm shell. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
24. CrapGame, I ordered my computer on the night of 8/10 and I was given a ship by date of 8/16. The order status page said it shipped on 8/13 (a Sunday - cool) but I can't get a shipping status report yet. It could get here by Thursday. I wish I weren't going out of town! ------------------ Ow, my leg!
25. Biff, I think view level 1 is ground level, not unit level. View level 2 should get you what you want. ------------------ Ow, my leg!
