1.
quote:
Originally posted by CavScout: Other than Spec Force, there is nothing "special" to earn a beret. If you are in an Airborne unit you can wear one, from the cook to the infantry man.

Yeah, but even the clerks and jerks and REMFs have to go through jumpschool in the 82nd. I thought it was pretty "special". Although, there are other Airborne units I have seen that get to wear the Red beret even though some of their folks are "legs". You are right on the money in this respect. Also, I have a great respect for Ranger units (very "special" IMHO) and don't think this will sit well with them. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
2.
quote:
Originally posted by jshandorf: That's too bad.. Cause a P-47 has 20mm cannons. Jeff

Sorry, Jeff but I think the P-47 had 8 .50 cal Mgs.... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
3. Well, stand by (next year?)for CM2 Russian front. Who knows after that. BTW, is your handle from the movie, "Fallen"? ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
4. Actually, I think the Green Berets was filmed in Georgia and Alabama. I liked the beginning sequences at Ft. Benning (nostalgia) but, agreeably, it was bad. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
5. Worst for me: Big Red One Battle of the Bulge Thin Red Line (and I read the book) U-571 (true Hollywood) The Clint E movie about Grenada Parts of SPR Fireball Forward edit: Hated Memphis Belle -still love 12 o'clock High. Deja Vu? I did this a couple months ago. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet [This message has been edited by Airborne (edited 10-17-2000).]
6. Hi and welcome. You can use HQs to spot for the on-board mortars. They must be in command and I believe the mortars can't move. If the HQ has a LOS to the target and the mortar is in command range of that HQ, you can target the mortar normally. Hope this helps. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
7. "Closing with the Enemy" is a very good book. Got it after hearing numerous recommendations here. I, too, would like to see hedgerows become breached/rubbled, etc. There is (limited) ability for on-board mortars to fire indirectly by using Hqs to spot for you. Probably not to the extent you would like, though. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
8. A Dark and Bloody Ground is by Edward Miller. Very good. Some other favorites: Company commander Closing with the Enemy There's a War to be Won by Geoffrey Perrot. Currahee! by Donald Burgett -just finished it, very good. I'm not biased though. Eisenhower's Lieutenants by Russell Weigley Brute Force by John Ellis Stalingrad by Antony Beevor Brazen Chariots by Robert Crisp Operation Drumbeat by Michael Gannon Fly for Your Life by Larry Forrester ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
9. I think the next patch will probably have TCP/IP. Will probably address other AI issues. Hopefully, soon. Rumor is, it will also address the Hull Down problems.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
10. Welcome, David. Your life will not quite be the same-- ever again..... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
11. Yeah, but ya know, if they had been out of AT rounds, they would have sat there at 4m staring at each other; maybe exchanging booze and WWII trading cards. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
12. Hey fellow Pennsylanians, I'm near Pittsburgh. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
13. Hey, where's the tanks?? Looks great,though. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
14. 2 oldies come to mind. Carriers at War (SSG) and Carrier Strike (SSI). Both good operational carrier games-but old. Try Grigsby's Pacific War as mentioned above for the whole pac. campaign. Hasn't been anything new in this area for quite a while. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
15. Yes, this happened to me too. It is a known bug, hopefully to be fixed. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
16. Geez, might as well keep this going. 36, married (6 years), 2 ruggers-2 1/2 year old girl, 2 month old boy. Both WILL play CM someday. Spent four years as a US Army paratrooper. Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Crewman (TOW). College after that. Been wargaming forever-many old AH and SPI titles. Best game going---period. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
17. Hi Jagd, Try and get World War II Order of Battle by Shelby Stanton. If you can find it, it is a great source for the US Army. Has everything from battalion TO&Es on up. Breaks down all divisions and regiments. There makeup and where they fought. Awesome. Think I got mine online --maybe from Hooked on History. It was used but in pristine condition. Mine is the 1984 edition. Big red cover. Galahad books ISBN 0-88365-775-9 See ya on the battlefield. Chris ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
18. Yes, the phrase came from WWII. The standard ammo belts for fighter planes were 27 feet. Hence, "the whole nine yards" when all was fired. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
19. Hey, thanks alot. Played it quite a bit. Don't even have it anymore--till now. A great game that definately needed some tweaking--I'll check it out..... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
20. Sounds great. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
21. Congrats and good luck. My son was born on July 10th. Bout a week before I discovered CM. Two wonderful events in a very short time. About did me in---still may...... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
22. Yes, EAW is still on my HD. Don't play it much, but when I get the flight sim bug--it'll be there. Also like/no love Talonsoft's Battle of Britain. Outstanding air campaign and very cheap now. Naval: I also have Carrier strike, and also try Carriers at War by SSG. Both real old. (very cheap). Fighting Steel seems good, but didn't play it much. You could also try Talonsofts 12o'clock High: Bombing the Reich. Be forewarned though. Its big. Very long campaigns. Very detailed. Runs slow on my system though. Played a couple of the smaller scenarios. Big Week and the Italian Campaign. IMHO, BOB is much better. 2 very old games are Pacific War and West Front. Dated graphics but good. My cousin still swears by those (even with the Grigsby touch). A new one I've yet to try is Panzer Campaigns: Normandy 44. Looks real good, may wait till its cheaper. Reminds me of the V for Victory Utah Beach game (also good) . Good luck! ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
23. I think you mean it still says 1.02 on the main screen. You probably didn't delete the old .exe file (1.02). The game is probably still looking at that one. You should only have 1 .exe file (around 3.5 megs). Hope this helps. edit: Make sure the file is in the main directory of CM. It shouldn't be in any of the folders. Also see the thread --Patch and mouse problems. BTS spells it all out. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet [This message has been edited by Airborne (edited 09-21-2000).] [This message has been edited by Airborne (edited 09-21-2000).]
24. I've got a Voodoo 3 2000 pci--no problems. I have a P266mhz with 96m RAM. Once I d/l the latest 3dfx drivers, it worked like a champ--originally had problems with the hi-res smoke. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
25. Get the full version. Trust me, you'll see plenty of Shermans brewing up. Typically, for me, many more Sherms brew than German. Plus, you won't be disappointed with the game.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
