You should get an Orange line from the indirect fire unit to the intended target. The HQ should be in a position to spot the target, and the firing unit should have a Red command line to the HQ. Works great. Remember to target with the firing unit. Make sure another HQ unit (possibly behind the firer) is not commanding the firing unit. This has happened to me and can happen if too many HQs are in the area.

Can you recommend readable books on the Italian campaign?

Also consider "Tug of War" by Bidwell (and someone else). Also on the BFC site under CMAK bibliographies. -
Ouch.......

Hi, am asking for help from the "experts" here. I was wondering what the armies used for designating targets when engaging an advancing force. For instance, my TOW sop had us use various firing techniques such as ripple fire. One tactic we used was having the left gun fire at the right vehicle, and right gun tube fire at the left--walking into the center. Of course, we always were trained to prioritize (sp) by targetting AA and HQ assets and then armor, arty, etc, etc. I realize I may be comparing apples to oranges (modern ((80s)) against the Red Army vs WWII) but there must have been some doctrine used when engaging armor on the attack. Any thoughts??

Yep, no doubt. My brother encouraged me to try the CMBO demo and I ordered the full version before I finished my first demo.

Wonder if this is him. From "The Tiger Tanks" by Peter Gudgin. " 501 Heavy Tank Battalion, with the Field Post Number 25032, had received its first two Tiger 1s on 30 August 1942, at which time it was also designated to be the first of the two battalions promised to Rommel in North Africa. It started its training for service in North Africa at the beginning of October, under the guidance of a Major Kummel, an Afrika Korps tank officer experienced in desert warfare." Unfortunately, that's all there is on him.

Panzerschreck/Bazooka Bug still present
Airborne replied to MAsta_KFC's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
According to the manual, there is (still) the danger of setting the building on fire from backblast. Haven't seen it yet, though. -
LOS, What unit where you in and when?? I was in Eco 505th Para 82nd from 81-85. I guess they disbanded the independant TOW companies in the late 80's when they went to the regimental system.

Just got my 2 copies today in Evans City, PA!! Very quick delivery. Thanks Battlefront.

Hey EZ, how does the new Tobruk system work for solitare play?? It looks really good. I just dug out my old copy for the scenario info. Great to have a legend like JD grace this forum. Thanks Jim. I have over 100 wargames (mostly SPI, AH). Luftwaffe (AH) was my first wargame ever, and Fast Carriers was my first SPI game.

Don't think so. IIRC, the M-60 was attached to every inf squad. I was in an AT Company (didn't have 60s), but I'm pretty sure the grunts I trained with/supported had 1 per squad.

Yes, they used the M-60 7.62mm MG. Still in use.

Now it,s here, a look into the future

Agreed Jake. Don't know if this could be done, but it would really add to this great game. -
Scenario of the Week: Line of Defense
Airborne replied to Elmar Bijlsma's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Played as the US against the German AI. Infantry advanced to the woods. Took out the Stug easily with a Sherm. The Tiger really surprised me, though. He gave me quite a whooping. I entered the town from the woods and began a house-clearing party. My last Sherm lobbed 3 smoke rounds at the bridge and I started an infantry assault. Reached the victory house near where the Tiger was roaming. Most German infantry were now ineffective. I managed to get an engineer squad and Plt HQ past the Tiger into the woods and my eng sqd tossed 2 satchel charges onto the back deck of the big tank--boom!!! No more. The game ended on the next turn. Minor Allied V about turn 37. I took my time with this one as I haven't played CMBO in quite a while. Forgot how kewl this game system is. It's nice to be back. -
AH Tobruk to CMAK - the gaming circle complete.

yeah, the German 88's were very deadly. That new remake of Tobruk does look pretty cool. Hmmmm... -
AH Tobruk to CMAK - the gaming circle complete.
Airborne replied to Eightball's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Agreed, 8. Tobruk was one of my first wargames--bought in the mid 70's I guess. Been waiting for a similar computer version for years--still waiting but it's ordered. -
Making a good first impression.

yep, sounds great. Looking forward to getting CMAK so I can recreate some of the small armor (and inf) battles from AHs Tobruk game. Such as having 3x Grants against 15 M13/40s (or something like that). Have to dig Tobruk out of my attic now. Been waiting a looooong while for this puppy to come out. -

quote:
Originally posted by Napoleon1944: I was at an airshow about 12 years ago at the Beaver County Pa airshow when a B-17 (the 909) was carrying passengers, caught a windgust and ran off the end of the runway and down a steep hill. Not sure if anyone was killed.

Hey Nap44, I live near Beaver County, PA. I thought it was a B-24 they were restoring. Anyhow, you live in the area?? -
I think the Tiger in SPR looked pretty good, but, it is NOT real. As mentioned, look at the wheels/tracks. There is no drive sprocket in the front. A dead giveaway. On the other hand, I just got Kelly's Heroes on DVD and , IMHO, the Tiger in SPR is much more realistic. ------------------ Land Soft, Kill Quiet

I got the game, have started to play, but........

In the Wittman scenario Villers Bocage, the German reinforcements do appear close to the first line of buildings. I think the designer may have assumed that the lone Tiger would have moved forward out of that area. I guess you could rework the German zones in the editor to make them appear closer to the map edge and not quite so far forward. ------------------ Land Soft, Kill Quiet
