1. Here, Here!! Seriously though, I feel your pain.. Use this time to quickly find a girlfriend..Make sure you dump her after you get CM (cause she'll dump you.) ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
2. Woof, Woof....... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
3. Got the demo. Interesting. Pretty detailed. Doubt if I'll buy it, though.. Would probably pick up Panzer Elite if it were available.. Of course, still hooked on CM..... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
4. I'm gonna have to buy that tank!! ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
5. Pick up "Steel Inferno" by Michael Reynolds. Reynolds also has a new book out, just saw it today called " Men of Steel". Both about the 1ss Panzer corp. A book I have called, "THe Tiger Tanks" by Peter Gudgin also has Wittman in it. Don't know of any just devoted to him... Additionaly, "Panzer Commander" by Hans von Luck is good as is "Panzer Battles" by Mellenthin. Hope this helps.... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
6. Nice touch, Apex.... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
7.
quote:
Originally posted by CavScout: US Army '90-'95 1-1 Cav, 1st AD [Germany] 4-64 AR BN, 24th ID (Mech) [Fort Stewart, GA] Obviously 19D ;p Cav

Regards, Cav. I'm just curious.. Didn't the 24th Mech become the 3rd Mech at Ft. Stewart. I had some buds in the 82nd at Bragg who transferred down to the 24th in the early to mid 80s. Thought that after the reorganization, it became the 3rd Mech..I know the 24th was still intact in the gulf. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
8. My brother and I have started playing PBEM games. We've started in June and are going to play (hopefully, he's getting pissed) each month of the war. These are QB games.. It is so easy to make up descent QBs that I've only played a few of the canned scenarios. I've yet to play any operations... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
9. OB_E8...You got PE after already playing CM--and like it.. It must be good..I have been lurking on the PE forum lately. Seems like the game is hard to get these days.. What about bugs, lockups, etc..?? Thanks.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
10. Hey 101st, pretty much like you, I generally play QBs..I've played some scenarios but no operations yet...All of my email games have been QBs so far... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
11. I've noticed the same thing.. Not all the time ,though. Wondered myself if it was a glitch, but probably not.... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
12. Welcome to our world, Capt...... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
13. There is a lot of randomness in A/C support. In one QB my own troops got bombed and strafed by my planes. In another, the AI had tac air and bombed the livin stuffings out of me. The a/c returned for around 3 turns in a row machinegunning, but fortunately, kept picking on an already knocked out Marder.... Don't count on support, be happy when you get it. They seem to act on their own initiative and generally don't reveal enemy locations. You have no commo with them...... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
14. I haven't got 'layed' in sooooo long, I wouldn't know how. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
15. We would have been there sooner but Churchill insisted that we go through the "soft underbelly" first. We were supplying you 'chaps' even before herr Hitler declared war on us. Definately, email BTS directly. I haven't seen a company more dedicated than BTS. Cheers.... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
16.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: I added divisional patches though. Problem is, they appear on the tankers too.

I guess you could just assume the tankers were from the attached Tank or TD Battalion of the ID.. How did they come out? I'd like to see 'em. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
17. I feel your pain. Played it once as the US. Lost all tanks, most of my grunts. Lost 3 TCs to sniper fire (I think). The only satisfaction came late in the game (last couple of turns) when I sent a depleted squad (4 men) running after a Panther that had advanced up to the woodline. It was engaging crews (what a surprise, that was about all I had left). The 'team' moved up right behind it and took it out by close assault.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
18. Usually, I just know what my boys are doing. What I typically do, though, is to left-click and draw boxes in areas (esp trees, etc) to highlight and make sure I didn't miss anybody. The "bases" idea is great but I really haven't gotten in to using it.. This is fine for smaller games (which I usually play).. For the battalion size games you should probably take the advise from the other posters...Unfortunately, my pc won't handle the big ones. Man....I've got to upgrade. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
19.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: p.s. I will test some more to be safe after dinner

Matt, you mean they let you eat???? ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
20. One thing I've oftened heard about the Israeli army was that they lost a tremendous number of TCs because of the risks they took. I've heard they used "Kentucky windage" to engage their enemies with great effect.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
21. Thanks for some clarification, John. This just isn't something I'm into with this game--YET.. It does sound interesting and I do tend to attach myself to certain units during a particular battle. I really haven't even tried an operation yet. To many possiblities with the QB generator alone.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
22. Ditto, Steve. It is truly awesome.. This forum brings out the nitpicking where we would all like to see some changes, but it is still the best tactical wargame I've ever seen.. I've played boardgames and computer games from the mid 70s on, and I've never played a PBEM game against another player-that's all changed with this one. It's simple, yet very challenging and realistic. Not to mention the outstanding support you get from BTS....welcome to our world.. BTW: I admire your way of introducing yourself to this game. Wish I was more like that. All too frequently, I'd buy a game and never even punch out the counters or keep on my HD very long.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
23.
quote:
Originally posted by Los: Artillery is the biggest killer on the battlefield, (At least in real life) prevention of which is the biggest priority. It's still pretty much that way today even in modern combat, destroy FIST vehicles, EW vehicles and ADA platforms at once as soon as they are identified. Los

I concur here. As a (modern) AT section leader, we were trained to engage ADA assets first , then command vehicles , armor , etc. Our TOW mounts were jeeps (pre HUMVEE) and had to constantly move positions least we incurred the mightly wrath of enemy (Soviet) artillery....One or two rounds from one firing position and then "unass the AO".... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
24. I don't see this happening too often. Esp. at longer ranges. Are you sure your not losing some to sniper fire?? I generally keep my TCs exposed longer than I probably should. When they get whacked, I take the blame... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
