Windows Protection Error -Win ME
Airborne replied to jclassey's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I've got a new PC. Dell 1Ghz PIII. 64mb GeForce2 card with no problems. Not sure of the DirectX version (I haven't touched or changed any settings). Have not seen this problem (and hope I don't) ------------------ "If it bleeds..we can kill it." -
I've noticed the same thing. Before with winter battles, I never noticed the grid lines. I just got a new PC and noticed the same scenario has grid lines now. I am playing at much higher resolution so maybe that has something to do with it. The tree bases seem to be okay. I am using the gunslinger/magua/kump subdued textures. ------------------ If it bleeds..we can kill it.

Did I miss a German halftrack vehicle mod?
Airborne replied to -E's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Just posted a similar message in another thread. I, too, was hoping to see something done with German HTs. The current vehicles really stand out (too much) against the subdued terrain and bldg mods.. ------------------ If it bleeds..we can kill it. -
Speaking of HTs. Does anyone know of a darker or subdued mod for the Germans? With all of the terrific subdued terrain and bldg mods out, the current German HTs are too bright IMHO. I haven't been able to find any. ------------------ If it bleeds..we can kill it.

What is hiding for a tank or vehicle?
Airborne replied to Pain's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Actually, I think hide for vehicles means they turn their engines to low idle. Many vehicles used engine power to rotate the turrets. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet -

Which book is the best Hurtgen Forest history?
Airborne replied to Aacooper's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Yes, I liked "A Dark and Bloody Ground". ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet -
Mord, here's another one that I've read and would recommend: "Touched by Fire" by Eric Bergerud. It's OT regarding CMBO because it covers the land war in the S. Pacific. However, it is very good and deals with the Australian and US Army forces that fought this grim campaign. It is available in soft-back through B&N and is definately worth a read and might give you a break from all of the West Front titles you'll undoubtledly be reading. Regards.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

Thanks. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

I, too, liked Company Commander by Macdonald and Currahee. I would also recommend Raid by 3 authors including Abe Baum and Richard Baron. It is about Taskforce Baum and the rescue attempt of US POWs behind German lines. One of the prisoners happens to be Patton's son-in-law. Very exciting and sad. On the German side, I have also recently finished Soldat by Siegfried Knapp. Very good. Both Panzer Battles and Panzer Commander are good reads. Have fun. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

quote:
Originally posted by :USERNAME:: the whole show was about the over reaction to the desert shield 82nd airborne deployment. Who really expects an airborne unit to stop anything in the desert?

Hmmm, well now I wished I would have seen it. The 82nd has plenty of AT capabilities. I forget the exact number of TOW launchers, but it was very formidable. Of course there are a number of variables to consider. If the 82nd was deploying in a tank heavy environment, you can bet they'd take as many as possible. However, the 82nd is a light infantry unit and must be supported. It would have been chewed to pieces if Saddam had advanced into Saudi early with determination. Basically, there are plenty of things we could kill in the desert. As a former TOW Section leader, we lived for clear fields of fire where we could reach out and touch something at max range...... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet -
Well, you shouldn't have much longer to wait. Only took a few days for me, but I live on the East Coast, US. Hang in there. Quiting your job was a brilliant move..Wish I could. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

Raze, I like em. But, I agree, they don't always work out. Long range, direct fire on targets works best for me. Also use em for smoke missions. They do have a pretty hefty ammo loadout. One key to keeping them alive is having other poor slobs up closer taking most of the heat. If spotted and targeted, they won't last long. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

Very nice photos, Warphead. Looked like an awesome trip. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

I encourage all to try out this new fictional scenario by Jagdcarcajou. It is fabulous. Play as the Allies and try your best to: capture a bridge with a small force; hold on and wait for reinforcements in order to take part of a town. Awesome. Initially, did real well as the US against the AI. Spoiler Alert..... * * * * * * * * * * Drove down the main road and took up an excellent hull down position near the intersection. The King Tigers (KTs) came on giving me perfect flank shots. Killed 4 right there in a pile by having 3 Sherms side by side. Tried to sneak 3 sherms down the town on the right flank. Was surprised by the KTs moving into the town and lost 2 of those tanks. Well, the battle started into a flame-fest as the KTs gained the high ground in the center and started plucking my boys off. Had inf. at the crossroads but lost most of my armor. I think there are 3 KTs left and some german Inf , but don't think I can pull this one off. A real nail-bitter when I saw what I was up against...... ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

Lookin good, Jagd. And I would just like to say to all, "d/l Heros at Dawn now!!!". It is very good. The 60 turns go fast and it is challenging and fun as heck. Had a blast. Thanks , Jagd. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

Welcome, Sharpie. You are taking the right approach to a much more enjoyable and challenging game. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

OT: U.S. Army to wear black berets
Airborne replied to Cuchulainn's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Trooper, I agree with you. The first jump was easy. The rest weren't. My plt. leader in jump school was a Marine Captain. Broke his leg on our 1st or 2nd jump. Ouch....2000ft? Rarely jumped that high. Most were at 800-1000 ft. Half at night. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet -
I've noticed the same thing. Always have to individually target to be sure of using the heavy stuff against grunts. And yes, what a game!.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
