  1. Consider that the US 1st ID suffered 3616 killed, 15,208 wounded (664 died of wounds). That is an incredible turnover rate. With something like 5000 men assigned to the 27 inf companies (who suffer the most casualties)--thats over 300% casualties..I doubt there were many intact companies left.. Patton wrote, "when an infantry divison has 4000 casualties, it has no rifleman left.. Das Reich suffered tremendously , too. I don't have those figures handy.. YOu still target with the mortar (even if it is on a reverse slope or in cover). If it lets you place a strike line--you are good to go.   3. Personally, I love the Stuart. In N. Africa, the British "Honey" was used as a main battle tank. Of course, this was in 41 and 42, where they were up against the pitiful Italian armor and German MK IIIs and early MK IVs..They shouldn't be too effective against Panthers and Tigers.....except 'lucky' shots, I haven't seen much of this.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
  4. The time scale of this game prohibits indirect fire. Simply not enough time to set up for this.. Plus, there are minimum ranges to consider. I wasn't a 'cannon-cocker' but I do remember reading other posts on this. You can use these units in the direct fire role or use them to simulate a breakthrough into a rear area where they may have been providing fire missons.. I do agree that HQ units should be able to call in arty. The only way to do this is with on-board mortar units...as long as they don't move.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
  5. According to "British and American Tanks of WWII" by P Chamberlain and C. Ellis--there is a Sherman IIC (Firefly)--it was the British designation for an M4A1 rearmed in Britain with a 17 lber gun...Page 131.. NO picture, though.. There is also info on the Stuart Kangaroo--"Late war conversion of redundant vehicles (any mark) by removal of turret and addition of seats for infantry for APC role in infantry units of armoured brigades. 1943-45 and post-war". I think the reason it takes a little longer is because the FO cannot see the spotting rounds land...Takes longer to adjust before FFE......Even if you can't get right on the target area, by marking close by, you can generally paste an area pretty good with the scatter, etc.....If out of LOS, however, you risk much greater scatter.. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
  10. Feel free to design your own urban environment--seriously. You can create a city just about any way you like with the excellent editor. You can make the spacing on bldgs closer or spread out.   16. In one game (1.03) I had a MK IV chasing around a .50 cal jeep. It was pretty hilarious. The AI jeep was tooling around unloading at the tank and killing my infantry teams. The tank couldn't engage it because it was too fast--the turret couldn't keep up with it. The engagement range was very close and I seriously doubt that a real world jeep crew would have stayed around or ever engage armor that close. Sometimes I forget that this is just a game.. I served in a jeep-mounted TOW platoon, and I know we would never be crazy enough to do something like that.   19. Mechanized means infantry using halftrack or lightly armored transport. Motorized means infantry using trucks. Typically, mech units were the infantry portion of armored divisions or in panzer grenadier battalions. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet

  22. I don't have the TO&E of the 2nd FF Armored Division (I suspect it is very similar to US) There was an AT regiment --Regiment blinde de Fusiliers-Marins in the 2nd FF AD. They used the M10s and 17lber Achilles as tank destroyers but used the M3 as support vehicles--probably more like the M7. ------------------ Land Soft--Kill Quiet
