  1. Subject line says it all. It seems this is almost a 'must' given a game of this scope, so is there one and if not are there any plans for one? MSD
  2. Having played some of the smaller scenarios I must say how much I enjoy CMAK so far. Part of the enjoyment comes with the realization that the first true wargame I played face-to-face (addictively so) was AH's Tobruk. I was drawn to the scale of the game...single tanks/artillery pieces and squads of men. It seemed so much more personal than games like Panzer Leader; each decision could mean the loss of a trooper who would then have to be manually scratched from the platoon roster. Many a skirmish was had on the desert battlefield that my kitchen table transfromed into on Saturdays. CM-et al has always been able to maintain that personal/tactical feel and now I have been brought full circle. Great game..as always. MSD
  3. Thanks for the suggestion. Gave it a try to no avail. Neither of my drives seems to want to recognize the CMBB files. The file appears when I explore the disc but I cannot seem to get it copied over - basically my drives freeze up. Happily I can at least directly install my original copy of CMBO with no problems. I am installing CMBB on another PC then merely making several CDs and then transferring it over. Time consuming however it will at least let me play. If by chance you can think of another approach I am all ears. Once again I thank you for your time so far. MSD
  4. Just a quick note: I just suffered the same problem. I recently bought a new computer (3 Ghz P4, 9800 Radeon Pro, Intel board, DvD drive, CD drive) and when I tried to reinstall CMBB from the original disk I experienced the same endless loop of drive activity described above. I also have the Non-CDV version. I will try to network my old pc with the new one and share files BUT is there another answer? I would hope I could use the original CD directly for an install. MSD
  5. Just a few quick personal observations -before I am off to work- for those of you who have yet install the game and might be wary of what you will discover. *The infantry model is more realistic than that in -BO (based on my observations of soldiers over the last 20+ years). *I have found that if one utilizes "actual" tactics as opposed to "game system" tactics success will come more often. *In -BB one finally realizes the power of suppressive fire. *Machineguns of all types come into their own and one can understand how historically a single German MG position could hold off veritable hordes of Russian Inf closing across open ground. *The visiblity restrictions faced by armor can be exploited (as was historically) and "tank hunter" teams, when used properly, are a thing to be feared. *Infantry confrontations might be a bit slower to develop, but can be vicious affairs (it could be me, but there seem to be quite a few more hand grenades about). *I have found it even more important in -BB to review my troops and try to match their abilities to the tasks I have at hand. All-in-all one of the best representations of Eastern Front combat so far. I can only hope some thought has been given to updating CMBO with the new engine. MSD
  6. I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to all of you posters out there whose messages I have read for some time. I am glad to see there has been a high degree of maturity and respect maintained here. I have a few questions (mind you I have not had the chance to search the forum): - Will CM2, with its host of anticipated upgrades and additions, contain a patch to bring CM up to the new standard it will no doubt set. - Will there ever be an add-on package to allow one to fight the early war (the BEF, early French and German armor, etc.) - Will there ever be a patch that allows the battle generator to create larger maps (large right now is rather confining) and add a "random" selection to the map type/hills/trees parameters. Just a few questions as I did not wish to overstay my welcome. In my experience only a game engine of such potential (both realized and yet to be realized) can elicit such a following of enamored posters. Sometimes we can focus so much on the act of polishing the gem to make it brighter that we begin to overlook the very fact we have a gem. This is a great game. Ok, Ok, its hard to be profound at work sometimes. Thanks for a great game and a host of great mods...keep 'em coming. ------------------
