1. Well done guys. I can now continue to play my Rugged Defence tournament games without constantly worrying that my uber tanks I purchased for both the Germans & the British aren't about to bog in the snow if the unit simply sneezes. And yes, all my tanks ARE uber tanks for Juju & Kilroy's benefit Regards Jim R.

 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Mr. Clark: I have to vote for Computer Ambush! (EDIT: for the C64) What a great game! (Was recently reminded of the name on this forum only two weeks ago or so.) [This message has been edited by Mr. Clark (edited 12-16-2000).]

I'd have to agree with you there Mr Clark, the beauty of that game was that when you hit the turn button you heard all this cacophany of shooting, explosions & dying & yet not know what the hell really happened until you got to vioew it properly. Certainly built suspense. Regards Jim R.

 7. John, can you tell me what the commander of that Pershing nicknamed "Fireball" ate on the day his tank was knocked out? That seems to be the only piece of missing information you have on that particular unit. Just joshing with ya... truly your research is incredibly detailed. Regards Jim R.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: But nobody's asking me! Why not? Because I don't know nothin.

I see nothink, I hear nothink.... we'll have to start calling you Sargeant Schultz if you keep those statements up! Regards Jim R.
 9. Yeh, sorry Chup, you did sort of discuss that aspect didn't you, but do you agree that Japan declaring war on the U.S. was pretty much inevitable whilst the sanctions remained in place? Regards Jim R.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Dr. Brian: Okay, in my version of CM, when I knock out an enema tank, it says how. And, it says if there was gun damage. Mine does not say if there has been a crew lose though.

Oooohhh.. those Enema tanks are nasty buggers! More feared than the flamethrowing Croccodile tanks & more likely to cause panic than a full squadron of airstrikes. Sorry, couldn't resist. Regards Jim R.
 11. Just another thing on that classic series. Another fantastic character actor was the guy who played Colonel Crittenden. If ever there was the perfect charicature of an English upper class sop completely out of his depth in crisis situations then THAT actor had it down pat. Great fun! Regards Jim R.

 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Doug, you shouldn't put more than a few words of that joke together at one time. Otherwise if someone who speaks German reads it you just begging for a wrongfull death lawsuit from grieving family members Steve

I'm assuming Steve that the words are to the famous secret weapon the British developed towards the end of the war which guaranteed victory to the allies and became more feared to the Nazi regime than the threat of an atom bomb detonation. Kind of adds more meaning to the term "Hobart's funnies" doesn't it. Regards Jim R.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Chupacabra: Which brings me to my second point - the Japanese military was an extremely racist organization, which believed that the Japanese people were superior both to the "lesser" Asian peoples and to Europeans. As such, it was seen as Japan's duty to establish itself as the world's foremost nation. I don't believe their behavior can be otherwise understood.

Interesting stuff Chup but as for your view that Japan declaring war on America can only be explained by their racial superiority view and it being their duty to establish themselves as the foremost nation, I suggest a more obvious reason for them declaring war on the U.S. It was virtually forced on them by the U.S. sanctions (which I'm not saying was wrong BTW in response to Japan's invasion of China) since the alternative to declaring war was simply to roll over and pull out of China while completely losing face to a European based culture. I would suggest the above alternative was always going to be too hard to swallow no matter which powerful nation was in such a similar position. Could you imagine the U.S. comprehensively pulling out all its forces in Grenada soon after the invasion if they were boycotted by the rest of the world? I suggest that the loss of face and prestige would be unbearable to the American public in such a situation so I would contend that in Japan's situation, the same nationalistic factors virtually ensured a declaration of war against the U.S., it was simply a question of when, not if. If anyone else (as well as Chup of course) has any views on this I would certainly be interested to hear them. Regards Jim R.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: So, the urban legend that a Tiger is invincible is exactly that, and urban legend. In reality Tigers died on the battle field, or else the German Army would still be equipped with them.

Damn... is THAT why the Bundeswehr has Leopard II's now instead of Tiger I's. Pity really, the Tigers just look so much better. Regards Jim R.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Degrees of Frost: The Black Prince, which would have been a bit of a hand full in the CM universe, was an attempt to get a 17-pounder attached to a Churchill - the Centurion crueled that one.

I'm wondering, if they had developed the "Black Prince" would the next development after that have been called a "Black Adder"? Just a thought.. Regards Jim R.

 18. Ahhhh, there's my answer. Thanks very much Texas, I had missed that and I simply assumed all off board artillery had smoke rounds. Possibly explains why Ge 120mm mortars seem relatively cheap compared with other off board artillery. Regards Jim R.
 19. I just had an interesting experience when I tried to use my German 120mm Mortar F.O. to fire smoke with 2 turns to go in the game. The F.O. was commencing a normal barrage the turn before (1 spotting round only had fallen) and I decided on the second to last turn that smoke was more important for my final rush at the VL. When I went to choose smoke as an option it didn't exist! Surely BTS aren't so clever to include the inability to have your off board mortar teams change to smoke rounds with only 2 turns left? I was simply going to retarget an area within the green line parameters so the delay in the smoke falling (if I could order it) would only have been around 20 to 30 secs. Has anybody else noticed this peculiarity when reaching the end of a game or is it just the Ge. 120 mm mortar F.O's? Any feedback would be appreciated. Regards Jim R.

 21. Perhaps the title of this topic should be "Ugliest OPERATIONAL tank" during the war as I think we would all agree the mighty Bob Semple takes the cake if we include all half assed designs that were never going to make it to the front. Just my thoughts. Regards Jim R.
 22. In answer to your topic the short answer is no. The long answer is *#@~$* (add your own expletive) No! Regards Jim R.

Then try not to laugh... Rune

I'll bet ol' Bob thought it was pretty crash hot at the time though. Plus, consider this. Imagine BTS trying to calculate the angle of the "armour" when a round strikes its hull. All those corrugations would be hell to model in a game like Combat Mission! 24. Is everyone forgetting the KVII? Now THAT was one ugly Mother F**cker with it's enourmous turret housing that (from memory) 152mm gun. Aerodynamic it wasn't. Regards Jim R.
