  1. Laphroaig 15 years. Lagavulin for advanced drinkers, much mellower than the 10 year old and this one needs the mellowing badly. Glenmorangie 18 years. Far cry from the cleaning agent they pass as 10 year old. apex
  2. What's the altitude on the map? My guess is planes are on a fixed level above the highest terrain. Move the map to 1, and it's high, move it to 17 and it's low. apex
  3. Actually, * means >50% damage. ** means > 75%. Hi Webs, btw apex
  4. Should beat "shell enters, ricochets off opposide side armor and bounces merrily through the fighting compartment until it runs out of energy". With a little luck, the HE charge in the AP shell doesn't even ignite before it's out the other side. Still leaves a lot of spall from the entry though to do damage. apex
  5. Currently in a game with muddy ground and lots of heavy armor, so I took the time to investigate. Ran four series of a test scenario, using StuG IV and running them through lanes of clear (8), sparse trees (6) and brush (3), total of 17 StuGs. I disregarded bogging and concentrated on immoblizations, i.e. which vehicles didn't make it. Result: 46% chance in open ground 33% chance in scattered trees 41% chance in brush It seemed though that bogging was more frequent in the trees, but if something gets bogged there it has a better chance of recovering than in open ground. Overall, moving in trees was very slow (the trees stugs took more than 20 turns, the open ones made it in 5 or 6) though, so the tactical value of using trees to move in to prevent bogging seems dubious to me. apex
  6. Great. Coffee on my screen and the keyboard is swimming. Please do not post something like this where people might read it just after breakfast. apex
  7. 1041.bmp = Ready ( fertig ) or ( einsatzbereit ) "Einsatzbereit". 1051.bmp = Delay ( Verzögerung ) "Warten: %time%" or "Warted: %time%". 1052.bmp = taking cover( geht in Deckung ) "volle Deckung" 1061.bmp = moving in ( bewegt sich Richtung ) "bewegt sich durch %terraintype%" 1062.bmp = immobile ( fahruntüchtig ) "liegengeblieben" 1063.bmp = bogged ( festgefahren ) "steckengeblieben" 1077.bmp = routed ( auf der Flucht ) or ( flüchtend ) "zerschlagen" 1080.bmp = embarking ( besteigen ) or ( bemannen ) Besteigen, hehe, that's what say one horse does with another in order to make little horses "Aufsitzen" would be best there. 1088.bmp = buttoned ( Turmlukd zu ) unbuttoned = ( Turmluke auf ) "Luke auf" and "Luken dicht" apex
  8. My guess he doesn't know what it means but it's correct Contrary to popular opinion, germans DO have a sense of humor. apex
  9. What you said, a 251 with three MG151 or MG151/20 aircraft cannons mounted in an anti-aircraft mount. Mostly used for airfield defense, kind of made sense there because you didn't need separate ammo from the fighters. apex
  10. You want a real bullet-riddled building, look up the Rouen court building and play a game of "guess the caliber". Must have been some fight there. apex
  11. Do a search on Amazon for "Peter Chamberlain". The volume on german armor is excellent. The one on allied is pretty good. If you are really into detail on german armor, the Spielberger series is excellent but may tax your budget a little at $30 to 50 per volume as there is one volume per major AFV. apex
  12. Actually the early models (A36) were armed with six .50 MGs. This was reduced to four for the P-51B, which basically was the version which was the important version, because it for the first time allowed bombers to be escorted all the way, this was the strategic advantage. The increase back to six .50s on the D model wasn't all that important, it merely enhanced the tactical value. apex
  13. Question, there has been a boxed release of CMBO by CDV for Europe. Will there also be a boxed release for CMBB, and if so, will it be at the same time as the main release or delayed? apex
  14. Watch the "Operation Goodwood" staff training film. Has all the answers you need. apex
  15. Using 7 SMG squads sounds a bit gamey to me, and is IMHO not good force balance. 2 companies of VGs, OTOH are another matter, IMHO the VG batallion is one of the best infantry choices for medium to large battles, and suited for both defense and offense, those VG rifle platoons and HMGs are needed as long range support for the close-in SMG infantry. apex
  16. Hmm, I'd be interested in a german one with a big "ROI" on the back. Calling all grogs to name unit and who was riding the tank (should be a hard one). apex
  17. Slope is calculated net. In a game a week ago I really learned to appreciate this attention to detail. My Jagpanzer IV (60mm at 50 degrees) was in a hull down position, and it was pointing slightly upwards, (maybe 3 or 4 degrees incline). 150 meters frontally ahead was a polish Firefly, on the lower flat terrain. In the resulting shootout, the Firefly ricocheted three hits off the JgPz's armor, to my surprise at the time. It was only then that I calculated and figured out 55 degrees plus 4 degrees incline plus the lower position had to be a net of a little more than 60 degrees, and since the 17lb gun has 62mm penetration at 60 degrees and 100 meters ... apex
  18. No. You got drafted and then assigned something. For instance, my grandfather was drafted in '42, assigned to naval artillery as a cook (being a, what you call somebody who makes cakes, not a baker), then in '44 got reassigned to a StuG brigade 905 first as a gunner then as commander (on a StuG, obviously). apex
  19. Counterattack at Sarrebourg. Available from Scenario Depot, link see the post above mine. apex
  20. Keep in mind AP shot from caliber 75mm and up used small HE fillers. Not sure about 50mm ammo, 37mm didn't. apex
  21. "The Schallmessverfahren (sound raning) utilizes the steady expansion of sound to all sides with constant speed to measure the time difference between different observation posts, in order to construct Richtungslinien (vectors, Hyperbolas) to the sound source. The intersection of two hyperbolas gives away the sound source, a third hyperbola is used for verification. The range of the measurements is 10 to 20 kilometers, 30 under good conditions. Influence from weather are adjusted for to 3.5 degrees and calm winds." Engelmann/Scheibert, "Die deutsche Artillerie 1934-1945", translation by yours truly. Definitely two sources needed, if you're in the group saying "infinite number of places", you are in the group that's wrong. apex
  22. And keeping them 800 meters away from vanilla Shermans is even better apex
