Are sales doing as well as expected?

Above and Beyond probably is the best-fitting term apex -
Had a PBEM recently where a pretty drunk Panzer IV(70) crew shot away quite a significant portion of its AP rounds at a Humber scout car - hadn't they got themselves shortly afterwards because they didn't shoot any better when facing an Achilles, they'd have run out completely in short order apex

A question for BTS,and anyone else:)

Interesting how one guy from the WW2Online tank boards after another ends up here apex -
Several answers in one post: To Mikey (100 tests, wow, I was satisfied after 10 that showed the same result ):

Hi, in a PBEM ran into the problem that a pillbox was taken out in the very first turn by a Bofors 40mm. I did test the matter further and built a test scenario with only a bofors and a 88 pillbox in it, distance 850 meters, no ammo for the 88. Result: 10 times out of 10 the pillbox was taken out or the gun damaged within the first turn, usually around 20 seconds into the first round. Now, obviously this renders pillboxes quite useless, and furthermore I don't think the war accounts I have read talk much about AAA being used to take out pillboxes. Thesis: This is a bug / hole in the modelling. Comments? apex

Can demo and full PBEM against each other?
apex replied to Dan Weaver's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
BTW, nothing is keeping you from installing the demo yourself, you can then play against him to get him hooked apex -
The video datastructure exists in the PBEM files. It's just a matter of exporting playdata into that structure (happens for every PBEM but not AI/HS games) and modifying the player to sequentially play these files while skipping the user input phases. Not a three hour job, granted, but nothing requiring lots of new code either, the player is there, the data format is too, that's the work that took effort. That is, if CM used a object oriented language apex

Mail setup to apex@epost.de , QB, between 1000 and 2000 points, rest up to opponent but keep it fair and sensible. apex [This message has been edited by apex (edited 08-13-2000).]

Mounting the L/71 PAK on the Tiger E was tried during initial design but never went beyond prototype stage. Also, it's only the overrepresentation of heavy armor that makes the short barreled 88 a bit ineffective in CM, IRL, they didn't go up against all those many Jumbo Shermans. apex

Actually it was above par in 1940, although the one-man turret undoubtely was a major shortcoming. In CM, it fills the same niche as the ACs and the Lynx, namely reconnaisance and light anti-armor work. And everything with at least one MG is good against infantry to some extent. apex

Very good US vs Wermacht tank article...
apex replied to fd ski's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)

quote:
This (to me, at least ) is analogous to the defeat of French armor in 1940, though the French tanks were superior to the German in many respects (especially armor protection).

Complete bull. The french and british armies both outnumbered and outclassed the german armor they faced. Their defeat resulted solely from inadequate tactics, this definitely wasn't the case with the german tank force after operation Overlord where the allied success definitely wasn't because of tactics but due to numbers and logistics. apex -
Did Ferdinant had 100mm belly armour?
apex replied to killmore's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Chamberlain/Doyle quotes the Ferdinand with 20 to 50mm bottom armor. I don't know where you ran across 100mm. apex -
No bug. Mortar's can't sneak, so the order is translated into a normal "Move" and that's obviously faster than the sneaking rest of the platoon (and probably makes the whole sneaking business rather pointless). apex

Recently fell in love with the Jagdpanzer IV. Put it in a hull-down position, keep 1000m between it and your opponent and watch the ricochets apex

Priest, I put the answer first and the sarcastic comment second. Yes, it's simulated psychology, in CM, the greener the unit the more likely they are to fire on an enemy when he comes into range. I've had green units fire at 200m despite a hiding order. I've had crack units hold their fire until the enemy was within 10 meters, cutting lose and slaughtering an entire american airborne squad within seconds (at La Fiere, one advance unit in the little house on the other side of the street, wasn't even in command radius, but sure had nerves of steel. Survived the entire battle, too, 2 losses, vs AI though). apex

Historical Question: How did tanks hit moving targets?
apex replied to Toad's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Kentucky Windage. Maybe a little MG fire, though that only is effective below 1000m. apex -
Operations - Your Thoughts?
apex replied to Wild Bill Wilder's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
What I would like to see is campaigns or a series of campaigns that attach themselves to a unit rather than a struggle around a certain location. Probably CM's timescope is too small for this, but really putting someone in the battalion commander's seat, leading his troops from Poland to wherever they surrendered and taking part in every important battle the unit was involved in along the way really would be a killer. As I said, it's probably not doable right now or at least only in limited scale, but it should be a long term goal IMHO. apex -
Amen brother, 4 hours down the drain three days ago. New map still isn't as good as the old one either apex
