  1. Looking up overreaction in the dictionary and this post is there.
  2. Great point. Especially in complex urban settings it is an issue.
  3. While I have always loved and appreciated modders and their talents, I have always wondered why instead of going in and actually playing a game, within a day they are trying to rip it apart and change it. Are they control freaks. Or were they the kids that tore apart the VCR to see how it worked. I can especially understand a modder who has played the hell out of a game and saying he wants more and the deveoper has abandoned it. But I still can't quite get my head around trying to mod it less than 24 hours after its out.
  4. Can you use a MANPAD against a ground target? ah, gib beat me to it. I like the metal club thing though. [ July 29, 2007, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: thewood ]
  5. My main holdback on RT is that I can't pause and issue orders in elite.
  6. One game that has done a commendable job with modern warfare and point purchasing systems is SPMBT. It is far from perfect, but it at least gets units in the ballpark. This came directly from the original SP series, which also had a workable point system for WW2 hardware.
  7. I was just about to type in a new topic when yours popped up. I have been playing a lot with Elite level to what the implications are for friendly FOW and can't seem to find any other than it making it a little harder to find some units on the map.
  8. As far as I am concerned I don't need a point purchasing system. Just make a little easier to build quick battles with forces I want. I play against the AI or friends and we can work out the balance ourselves.
  9. -4 depression would seem to give it a pretty big blind spot. Once again, I am not talking from a vantage of knowledge, just curious.
  10. That is great advice. In RT, it would seem almost like you would have to put the rest of the battle on hold until this is done for each squad. In WEGO, it would seem like this would take forever, becuase you can't string some of these commands together and you would have to wait until the completion of each turn. The other issue in WEGO is the US soldiers never pull back on their own. In CM, if they started taking casualties, they would more than like crawl away. In SF, they will just stand there and take it.
  11. Looking at it, its seems like it would have a very limited ability to depress past horizontal.
  12. How's that for an iron man competition. Play CM in Finnish only. (well excpet for Finns, who kick our asses in any language)
  13. Can the ZSU even depress its guns for ground combat. Just curious. If it can't I am fine with abstracting it.
  14. I regularly have Strykers hit by RPG7s and continue on. I would like to know if things like spalling and internal damage is modeled. I also have not had a single gun hit or gun damage.
  15. But it seems that CMSF is niether here nor there. I believe Steve as already said that in some instances WYSINWYG. How are we supposed to know when WYSIWYG applies. I am really struggling with Hull Down. It seems that sometimes I don'y have the turret above the hill, yet I can shoot and sometimes I have it well above the crest, and I can't shoot.
  16. I have the same problem with a couple of commands. While BFC and some others may have good reasons for tabbed order pages approach, using the exact same key for obviouly important commands is insane. Yes, I know we can change them (can we?), but commonn sense would say that a new tabbed system means people are going to quickly lose track of which tab they are on.
  17. The problem with hunt is that the units stop where they are and you have to go back and tell them to move again after the firefight. I would suggest to BFC going back to the old hunt-style command where they continue the move after the firefight. Why wouldn't quick work. Would they stop an shoot and then continue? I am asking out of ignorance. I have tried a couple of building entries and between my incompetence and a few AI issues, I totally coked em up.
  18. Something else to keep in mind. Research for modern war is probably 10 times the effort of WW2, and that was a lot. The research effort becomes an asset and you don't want every wannabe game developer filching your hard earned research. I'm sure that is a small part of the unit data not being shown issue as well.
  19. I wouldn't mind if they just abstracted it. As they enter a house under an ENTRY command, they become a big icon and you just hear the firefight and see the results whenits done. Thats better than having micromanage them into the house.
  20. I am actually a little imtimidated by the editor. This whole AI planning thing scares me. Kinda like clowns, I know they're good, but they still scare me. Especially French clowns.
