  1. Steve and Charles: I do not know if changing the price structure is the answer. A person who is intent on using the vehicles in a "gamey" recon way will still do it whether he has 4 or 2. Granted it will cost a player more but I doubt if it will change his tactics. I say leave the price structure the way it is and may the best man win on the field. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  2. DeanCo...great mod! I run at 800x600 resolution and it looks great. I, too echo, the sentiments of those posted...red letters are a bit of strain and the red cross needs a background (unit info - Casualties) area. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  3. This topic has been touched upon before in previous threads, ie, management of large number of units. Various suggestions have been offered and I'm sure Steve and Charles are well aware of the suggestions that have been made. Time will only tell if some kind of management "feature" will be implemented. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  4. While TCP/IP will not be my main source of play (PBEM fits my schedule better) I do plan on getting in at least one game a week with it (Friday Nights). With 3 kids and a job with constant deadlines (TV) it's tough making the time to play... ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  5. As has been discussed in past posts, the Eastern Front will be next followed by a few others dealing with WW2. But I sincerely hope BTS takes a serious second look at doing the Pacific theater. It wasn't just jungle warfare...which I think would be pretty interesting to play; talk about line of sight obstructions... ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  6. To date I have not experienced on lock up due to the game. You might want to check and see if you have the latest drivers for your vid card and that it is not over-clocking the graphics. If it is, turn it off. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  7. Scott: I wrote a history of my grandfather's unit during WW2 (270th Engineer Combat Battalion, 70th Infantry Division). He saw action in NE France from Jan 1945 - May 1945. I acquired 300+ pages from the National Archive; AARs, unit intelligence summaries, daily work reports and mine charts. Unfortunately, most of the mine overlays were missing along with appendicies for type identification. This is what I have been able to find out. It's information, but unfortunately, won't really help you. For the majority of the time during this period, the 270th engineers spent most of their time removing mines from located enemy minefields and repairing/building bridges and roads. The majority of which were "schu" mines; those nasty wooden bad ones. Teller mines were usually found to be booby trapped; set to go off at a certain time and rigged to do some major damage. The few mines that were layed were AP and AT, set up near infantry defensive positions. Mines were set in roads, but the type of road was never stated (except as a co-ordinate, from point A to point . I do have the 1944 Engineer Combat field manual and will look up any reference for you concerning paved roads. Just send me your email address and I will forward the material that I find. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  8. As the author of the unit history of the 270th Engineer Combat Battalion during WW2, (my grandfather's unit) I came across accounts of this very thing happening. Artillery can set off a chain reaction of explosions (Sympathetic explosions) and wreak havoc in an mine infested area. Some of these explosions tore up whole streets (Forbach). ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  10. You are not stupid...but your suggestion will not work. Player A makes move and sends to B Player B Makes move and sends to A A watches movie sends to B B watches Movie and makes move for turn 2. Sends to A Both players must receive each other's move before movie is seen. I had read somewhere this was to prevent any kind of "hacking or cheating". I can live with that. And besides the system as is works just fine. I live by the rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  11. Bill, I'll guide you. Let me know your side preference and I'll set up a quick battle. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  12. The only time I haven't played (either against the AI or a Pbem game) is when we spent a week moving into our new home....and I know why. Somehow BTS knew what the Bush camp was doing months before the "RATS" political add came out. Subliminal advertising! With the refresh rate so fast on TVs and computer monitors, they decided to incorporate "PLAY CM, PLAY CM" with some last minute coding. No one would know but it would be effective! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  13. The way kb9sog does it is the way I do it. Briefings are simple *.txt files that allow no formatting of fonts, etc. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  14. As for who won...well, we all know who did. For more on Operation Nordwind you can go to the home page I maintain for the 70th Infantry Division, whose three regiments fought in Nordwind as Task Force Herren. http://www.trailblazersww2.org ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  15. Ahhh...the good ol' days...remember the P-51 ace Johnny Cloud...or the PT Boat skipper, Captain Storm...or how about the German ace of aces in "Enemy Ace".... Great comics all! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  17. "The Last Offensive..." is a book in the series of the Army's official history of World War 2. It is a good book and covers the action in NW France and Germany. It does not cover the action in southern France and NE France. For that you would have to find "Riviera to the Rhine". ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  18. You can go to this site and download numerous PDF files for your reading pleasure. Of special interests to CM players are the Combat Lessons learned pamphlets...a great source of tactics for US soldiers when facing the Germans... http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/DL/chron.htm Enjoy! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  19. The ad wouldn't play for me and I have Windows Media Player 7. Saw previews in the movies this past weekend. Looks good. I guess we'll see about the story... ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  20. I have to agree with John and Chris. While the series was well produced, it left a lot to be desired on the military side. Instead, it focused on the human aspect. I am not saying that this was wrong, but it was obviously the way the producers wanted to approach the subject. There were a lot of topics (mentioned in previous posts) that were not given the light of day. This, I feel, short-changed the viewer. I found myself turning it off with 15 minutes left in the last episode. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  23. I can't believe I am the only Marine that served in the aviation branch! VMFA-251 1976-1979. Honorably discharged as Sgt. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  24. The movie is based on the book, "Cross of Iron" by German author Willi Heinrich (not quite sure of the spelling of the last name). He also wrote a book entitled "Crack of Doom". Both books take place on the Eastern Front. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  25. Look under program files: cmbo: and look for the file labeled: "combat mission bynd ovr prefs". Delete it and restart CM. It should detect you new settings. Also I would reinstall your Voodoo drivers. Installing Directx will sometimes overwrite those files. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
