  1. Mortars, also I believe, cannot fire while in the woods. Make sure they are behind something without any overhead cover. Give that a try. As for mortars in vehicles...I too could only get them to fire in direct fire mode. Seems to me they should also have the ability to fire indirectly. I think this needs to be changed. Can anyone give an yea or nay answer to this? ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  3. PBEM is fine with me. I'll probably play head to head to give it a try but I'll stick to PBEM because of my schedule. I am a TV producer, married with three kids. Most of my gaming time is done during the evening after the kids hit the sack and on the rare days I am home. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  4. I and R units were very common...I think perhaps a tweak to list these as a purchasable unit might be in order. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  5. Recon was performed in several ways in US Divisions during WW2. All had HQ units with recon sections attached to them. Patrols were used by frontline troops and taken from existing squads. Reg and BN Hq had A&P (Ammunition and Pioneer) platoons which sometimes peformed recon duties. Short of updating the equipment list to show rec teams, I guess one would have to split up squads for the time being. You ca go the the 100th Div (WW2, not today's training div) Site (URL escapes me) and look at their comprehensive organization charts to get the exact makeup. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  6. I have built my scenario (Free French vs. German, August 1944). I am looking for playtesters. Email address is in my profile. I'd appreciate any feed back. Historically, the Germans won this one but abandoned their positions the next day. I think the French have the upper hand as it stands now. Looking to balance it out a bit. It's a small scenario, 25 turns. Thanks. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  7. You press Alt-S to save games. Name the file and hit ok. It is saved in the saved games sub-folder in the cmbo directory. By not loading CM onto drive C maybe your problem. I would suggest unistalling it and then reinstall onto drive C. Hope this will help.
  8. For those designing sceanrios, I have a 1:100,000 scale map of the Koblenz area of Germany available on line. I know the scale is to large but will give the designer an idea of the area. http://www.trailblazersww2.org/70thdocuments.htm ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  11. I've tossed all my computer games except SP:WaW. Combat Mission has been my main focus. I want to really concentrate on this game. I have kept some of my board wargames, and still play them occasionally Air Force and Dauntless and Submarine...reminds me of my roots!
  12. You want General Orders...Field Orders...overlays, maps....come to 70th Infantry Division Home Page and you'll find them all! Seriously, many official documents are available for viewing! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  13. Lay covering fire from 1 or 2 squads and use the third to attack. But that is only if you really need to take it out. Otherwise bypass it. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  14. I am looking for help in designing a sceanrio. I have all the research done, I need someone who is adept with the editor. If anyone is interested please email me. Check my profile for email address. Thanks! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  15. Guys: Don't forget to send me your results for an unofficial posting! To see what I need, go to http://www.vmfa251.org/CM/ and look under listing, then Results. Thanks Guys! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  16. When will the latest patch be ready (v1.02?) for those that received the initial shipment? I've already upgraded to v1.01. Thanks in advance. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  17. Absolutely not! With Marshall deciding that the US had to make due with 90 divisions (down from 100+) casualties were a big probelm! In late 1944, it was decided to send the regiments only of the 70th, 63rd and one other division as Task Forces to make up for holes in the line in N.E. France. These divisions did not have the benefit of Army maneuvers before being shipped out and were also stripped of personnel many times before being shipped overseas. Many soldiers barely completed basic training before they entered combat! Believe it or not, we barely made it (manpower speaking) in Europe and Japan! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  18. Since my family was involved heavily during WW2 (my grandfather was a combat engineer in Europe and my mom lived under Nazi occupationas a child) I have been more than interested in WW2 history. My book buying began in my early teens while living on Okinawa in the 60's. My collection of books on the subject is over 300 (at last count). My biggest single purchase was the US Army's Official History of WW2. I have the European and Pacific theaters complete. CBI, Africa and Italy I need to complete. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  19. Hey Olduvai, I have the same card. I did not have the problems you had when installing it and playing CM. As a possible solution, perhaps reload the drivers and be sure to download and install the latest drivers. It will fix the blocky smoke. Sorry I couldn't be of much help here.
  20. If you sent me your name don't forget to send me results of your games. If you will send me your results I will post them. And don't forget to find other SE opponents at the page while you are there. http://www.vmfa251.org/CM/ ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  21. Another good book, published in 1971 and a second run in 1981, by Arco Publishing Inc, is called German Army Handbook 1939 - 1945 by W.J.K. Davies. It breaks down units to the company level and lets youknow what gear they use. It also has a section on German map symbols used during the war. A first rate reference book. I do not know if you can find it or if it is still in print.
  22. All this begs the question...what about Russian Partisans in CM2? Now they did play an important role. Magnus...thanks for tip on the Sceanrio. My mother is French. Relatives on my mom's side all reside near Paris. My grandfather (Father's side) served as a combat engineer with the 70th Infantry Division. They fought mainly in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France. They liberated many towns in the region, the biggest being Forbach until they took Saarbrucken inMArch 1945. My mom, as a kid, spent four years under Nazi rule.
  23. I would like to see the inclusion of FFI (French partisans). I would like to do several sceanrios involving them which occurred in Southern France after the landings in August. While I could probably use French conscripts to simulate the FFI, it just wouldn't be the same. Be pretty neat to see the partisans in civilian clothes and a mish-mash of weaponry. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  25. This is a game...it can't be that realistic. It's a simulation. BTS had to make some abstractions, otherwise we'd be mired in micromanagement. And if you read the Design notes in the manual you will have a better idea. You want real...join the military. It's as real as it gets. former Sgt.
