  1. I think so Wild Bill, posted for clarification only. Also, Otto, what division did your grandfather serve with? ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  2. Wild Bill: Thanks for the post. Mr. Brown's account pretty accurate. However, I have one correction. Patton's Third Army did indeed swing north to help contain the German attack by moving north and getting at the base of the bulge to pinch it off. The Seventh Army (Gen Patch) did not move north. What they did was fill the holes left by the Third Army. As Mr. Brown noted...the lines were thin. A decision made earlier by Marshall and Ike to get Divisions over to the front from the States forced the 63rd, 70th and one other to have their regiments put into the line without any of the division support troops. They fought as Task Forces (Linden, Herren and Harris). If anyone would like more information on Operation Nordwind and the fighting in the Vosges, please visit our website, http://www.trailblazersww2.org As Wild Bill can attest to, you won't be disappointed with the visit. 3. AA Cooper: There is an excellent write up of the Climbach action you speak of in Keith Bonn's book, "Ordeal in the Vosges",... the footnotes list the Order of Battle for Captain Thomas' outfit. Unfortunately, German OOB is sketchy. I did a sceanrio on this Battle of Steel Panthers a few years back. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  4. I am surprised at this discussion. I've known all along that black troops fought on the front. I had assumed others did also...so much for assuming! For a good account of black soldiers during WW2 read Gerald Astor's "The Right to Fight". As for mixing the units, the 104th Infantry Division "Timberwolves" was one of the first to do so in the ETO, in Feb - Mar 1945. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  5. Before any other "modern version of CM" (post WW2) I'd like to see a Pacific version (WW2) first. To ignore this theater for whatever reason is a shame. It doesn't get enough treatment as it is. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  6. After 4 calls to Jim Beam I was told that Young and Rubicam did the ad. I asked for a number was told politely that they didn't have one. Right.... ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  7. This ad is a slap in the face to veterans. If they were trying to be funny they failed miserably. I am sure that each veteran that has been wounded was not thinking of having a Jim Beam. I am contacting Jim Beam and let them have my 2 cents worth. Steven K. Dixon Sgt. USMC 1975 -1979 ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  8. Bill: I also prefer the 25 - 35 turn scenarios. Unfortunately, I can't complete a game in one sitting...job, kids, house chores, etc...you name it. At least at the 25 - 35 turn length a PBEM game can be completed in a reasonable amount of time. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  9. Thanks Bewary. I'll see what I can do. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  10. Guys: I was up at my grandfather's WW2 division reunion this past weekend. While there I was given a VHS tape. When I returned I watched it and was absolutely amazed. Here was a copy of 16mm film footage that shows what GI's of the 70th Infantry Division did during the occupation in Germany from May 1945 - November 1945. I could not believe that this footage was shot. It goes on for an hour and is preceeded by Signal Corp combat footage of Allied troops fighting their way across Europe. It sets the tone for the occupation footage. Now for the question. I'd like to get clips of these posted on the 70th Site and need to know where I can post realplayer files. Unfortunately my server can't handle the files. Also, where can I get these clips transfered to Realplayer files? Any help is appreciated! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  11. As for the condom, which mods would you use!? ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  12. One thing I noticed in Memphis Belle...at what altitude were they flying when attacked...IIRC, they had their gloves off while using MGs...wouldn't their hands have frozen quickly after exposure 3 to 5 miles up? (I did enjoy the movie) Worst movie for me...Battle of the Bulge and Midway (god that was horrible). ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  13. Correction: Go to Battles and look for Index of Battles and the Zip File. For some reason no matter what page you are on the url stays the same. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  17. Sir Basil Liddell Hart's "History of the Second World War" is a very good book. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  18. I agree with all the points mentioned for US Artillery. As for the quad 50...I think it should be included. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

  20. What is this...freakin' Saturday nite?...This is a repeat of the show from about 2 moths ago. German tanks are seen but not in battle. Most compelling footage is from Pacific theater. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  21. I get nothing but a dead link...the dreaded red x. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  22. For you scenario designers out there: this may be a useful link for you. Some may be already aware of it. It's detailed to the platoon level. http://www.100thww2.org/100org/100org.html ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  23. This has been dealt with before in previous threads. I do not recall any comment by BTS; positive or negative. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  24. Mr. Johnson: In your reply you said "....When only like 20% of your soldiers are fireing their weapons its kind of hard to break the enemys will to fight. " This comes from S.L.A. Marshal's "research" after the war and has come under suspect...and has been for some time. While I cannot get specifics at this time I will try to post them later. I am contacting Keith Bonn "When the Odds Were Even" and Edward Miller, author of a book on the Huertgen Forest fiasco to get the latest. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
  25. I think all vehicles should have an inherit worth. How some vehicle cost less than vehicles with less effective weapons seems a bit skewed...plus other examples already mentioned. Good luck with getting this corrected. Hopefully a revamped unit purchase system can make it into CM2. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org
