I need opinions on unit status for a scenario
Frenchy replied to JWorthing's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Unit Histories and or After Action reports of units are based on documents written during the period mentioned; in the heat of battle and the infomation received was the best to be had at the time. So while they are good to a point and give you an overall view of the action, keep in mind that specifics need to be double checked for confirmation. Hope this helps. I learned all this the hard way while researching for a book I wrote on my grandfather's engineering battalion. It took me two years and I still wish I had more info! ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org -

And don't forget the political commisars which were prompting the grunts not to retreat and if they did, they were shot. That will make for some interesting modeling.

I think TCP/IP should be implemented. All of the above reasons are good ones. In order for TCP/IP to work, and to play a game in a reasonable amount of time, time restrictions per turn must be worked in somehow. Otherwise, one could spend a fair amount of time contemplating a move. TCP/IP is another gaming option and is a reflection of our "tech culture". We want the ability to play instanteously over the internet. But for some odd reason, it's hard to find a face to face opponent for a good ol' board game...strange . ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

OT:where do I find info on a veteran
Frenchy replied to JWorthing's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
There are two things you need to do: 1st: Find out if the family has any documents. Preferably his discharge papers or citations (if any). These papers will list the unit he served with. 2nd: If you know his Army serial number you can contact St Louis where the house military personnel records from WW2. The do have a web site. Please note that a large number of iles were destroyed in a fire in 71-72. They'll do their best to reconstruct his records if they were lost. If yo have any other questions please email me. Email is in my profile. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org -
There are a few near the Saarbrucken area...mainly to the south. Spicheren Heights, Forbach, Phillipsbourg, Wingen...all were sites of WW2 battles. ------------------ Webmaster http://www.trailblazersww2.org http://www.vmfa251.org

CM Recommended Reading List?
Frenchy replied to RobVarak's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Speedy Wrote: pvt_ryan- For a good book on the viewpoint of the individual German soldaten I advise you to read 'The Forgotten Soldier' by Guy Sajer ISBN 0-304-35240-3 . The book is about the experiences of the author on the Eastern Front from 1942 to 1945, to give a bit of perspective the author is only about 19 years old at the end of the war. Please be advised that this book has come under suspicion as to its authenticity. In conversations with 2 military historians, they have mentioned this to me. As of this date, this suspicion hasn't been proved. -
